7 APPLICATION The electronic two-step temperature controller 701 is especially suitable fort he regulation of electrically heated M&C sample lines series 3/4/5-N/M/H and PSP-4M (-W) with a contact rating of up to 10A. Equally, it can be used for regulation of the heating or cooling of other devices. 8 TECHNICAL DATA Temperature Controller Type 701 230V 701 115V Part-No. 01B8240 01B8240a Temperature control range Adjustable in the range of -200 C to +600 C, adjusted at works to 0 to +200 C Contact rating 250VAC / 10A ohmic resistance, change-over contact Kind of regulation Two-step regulator Temperature sensor inlet PT100 DIN; 2-conductors with identification of sensor short-circuit or sensor Ambient temperature break 0 C to +55 C, in case of close-to-close mounting 0 to +40 C Storage temperature -40 C to +70 C Switching hysteresis Adjusted at works to 5 C Accuracy of control ± 0,1% from final value of measuring range Electrical connection Terminals 2,5mm 2 Mains voltage * / Power 230V +/-10%, 50/60Hz, 2VA 115V 50/60Hz, 2VA consumption Mounting version Rail mounting housing EN 50022 Protection IP 20 EN60529 Housing material Polycarbonate Dimensions H90xB22,5xT62 mm Weight 110 g Mounting position Any you like Climate resistance 75% rel. humidity annual average without condensation Electrical safety DIN EN 61010 Part 1 over voltage category III, contamination degree 2 Electromagnetic compatibility EN61326 Interferences Class B Resistance to jamming Industrial requirement Indications Actual value, LCD 3-digit, switching status relay via LED * Galvanic separation to the sample inlet 9 DESCRIPTION The two-step electronic temperature controller 701 has got a temperature sensor inlet for PT100 sensors in two-wire-technique. It is equipped with a short-circuit and sensor break protection. The desired temperature is selectable via keys. The actual value is indicated via a 3-digit display and the controller function via a luminous diode. The program provides functions that enable you to adjust switching hysteresis, alarm limits, zero-point correction and several other parameters. 10 RECEIPT OF GOODS AND STORAGE Immediately after arrival, remove the controller and eventual accessories carefully from the packing and check the articles for completeness against the packing list; Check the goods for any damage during transportation and, if required, inform your shipping insurance immediately of the damage found. www.mc-techgroup.com Temperature controller 701 1.00.01 7

The controller should be stored in a weather-protected and frost-free area! NOTE! 11 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AND DIMENSIONS N L1 4 5 1 2 3 Figure 1 Dimensions and indication of the connection terminals The controller is designed for mounting on a top hat rail according to EN50022. 12 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS The temperature controller 701 is delivered for a mains voltage of 230V 50/60Hz or 115V 50/60Hz. W A R N I N G! A wrong mains voltage can destroy the device. Please ensure that the supply voltage is identical to the indication on the type plate! 8 Temperature controller 701 1.00.01 www.mc-techgroup.com

W A R N I N G! When setting high-power electrical units with nominal voltages of up to 1000V, attention must be paid to the requirements of VDE 0100 together with the associated standards and stipulations! A main switch must be provided externally. The main circuit of the instrument must be equipped with a fuse corresponding to the nominal voltage (over current protection); for electrical details see technical data. The electrical connection is to be made on the terminal screws on the front side of the housing (see figure 1). W A R N I N G! The nominal capacity of the connected heated line must not exceed 2300 Watt. Connect the temperature sensor PT100 to the terminals 4 and 5. Connect the mains voltage terminals identified with L1 and N to the supply voltage being sufficiently protected by fuse. Connect the switching contact for ON/OFF for the consumer to the terminals 1 / 2 / 3 with the functions MC (Pole) / NO (make contact) / NC (break contact). Optionally, a multipolar coupler socket may be mounted externally that will be wired with the temperature controller according to the pin connection plan (see figure 2). This enables you to make a simple, easy servicing connection between the heated sample lines 3/4/5-N/M/H or PSP- 4M (-W) by means of the multipolar coupler socket (standard equipment of the heated sample lines) with the temperature controller. 4 3 5 Sensor 6 Sensor 2 Pow er N 1 Power L Figure 2 Pin assignment of the coupler socket of the heated lines 3/4/5-N/M/H or PSP-4M (-W) 13 INITIAL STARTING For starting the controller, it is necessary to make some configurations beyond those adjusted at works. For this purpose, the set point (SP) must be determined and the switching hysteresis (HYS) must be adjusted. Additionally, it is possible to adjust a high and a low value for alarming. The alarm is displayed in the controller s display in case these values are increased or decreased. www.mc-techgroup.com Temperature controller 701 1.00.01 9

ADJUSTMENT OF THE SET POINT (SP) AND THE HYSTERESIS (HYS) The following steps have to be executed for adjustment of the parameters: In order to reach the parameter level for adjusting the set point, please press the key P for more than 3 seconds. The display alternates between COD and 0. Enter Code 72 by using the arrow keys and confirm with key P. The display is changing between SP and 0. Enter the desired set point, eg. 100, 200 or 250 C by means of the arrow keys and confirm with the key. P The display alternates between HYS and 0. Enter the desired hysteresis (5 C recommended) by means of the arrow keys and confirm with the key P. All other parameters are adjusted for operation of electrical heated M&C-sample lines. Wait 60 seconds until the actual value is displayed. ADJUSTMENT OF THE ALARM LIMITS The following steps have to be executed for adjustment of the parameters: In order to reach the parameter level for adjusting the alarm limits, press the key P - for more than 3 seconds. The display alternates between COD and 0. Enter Code 72 by means of the arrow keys and confirm with key P. Press the key P as often as the display indicated AL.L (below alarm limit). Enter the desired value, eg. 90, 190 or 240 C by using the arrow keys and confirm with key. P The display indicates AL.H (above alarm limit). Enter the desired value, eg. 110, 210 or 260 C by means of the arrow keys and confirm with key P. Wait 60 seconds until the actual value is displayed again. FUNCTION TEST Principally, it must be checked after the initial starting whether the controller is switching according to the adjusted values and whether the determined operating temperature is reached. The first function test has to be effected as follows: Switch on the power supply. After the set point temperature is being reached, the controller cuts the heater off the LED is extinguished. 14 CLOSING DOWN No special measures are to be taken for closing down the equipment. 10 Temperature controller 701 1.00.01 www.mc-techgroup.com

15 MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR The controller 701 is working maintenance-free for a long period of time. In case the controller is defective, please send the device to M&C Products for repair. NOTE! The controller is equipped with a sensor break protection that in case of need cuts off the unit as long as the defective sensor has not been exchanged. 16 APPENDIX Further product documentation can be seen and downloaded from our home page: www.mc-techgroup.com www.mc-techgroup.com Temperature controller 701 1.00.01 11
