Readers should pay attetio to Sectio 2, i particular the scope of testig as outlied i Sectio 2.1 as well as the observatios oted i Sectio 2.2, to esure that their ow use cases are adequately covered by this scope ad results. Testig was coducted via the DevCoect Program at the Avaya Solutio ad Iteroperability Test Lab. 1 of 16

1. Itroductio These Applicatio Notes describe the cofiguratio steps required to itegrate JPL Headsets usig a HIS cord from JPL Limited with Avaya 9600 Series IP Telephoes usig both H.323 ad SIP protocols. JPL Limited offer a variety of headsets (listed i Sectio 4) that ca be used with the Avaya 9600 Series Telephoe usig the HIS cord to coect the headset to the telephoe RJ9 headset jack. The headset the provides two-way audio. This solutio does ot provide call cotrol features directly from the headset, such as aswerig or termiatig a call from the headset. The headsets do ot offer volume cotrol or mute fuctioality. JPL Limited desig ad develop professioal headsets for the Corporate, Fiacial, Health, Govermet, Educatioal, Idustrial, Hotel & Hospitality ad Cotact Cetre market sectors. 2. Geeral Test Approach ad Test Results The iteroperability compliace test icluded feature ad serviceability testig. The feature testig focused o placig calls to ad from the Avaya 9600 Series IP Telephoes with each JPL headset attached usig the HIS cord ad verifyig two-way audio. The call types icluded calls to voicemail, to local extesios, ad to the PSTN. The Avaya telephoe user should be clearly heard ad observed without ay distortios or audio issues. The serviceability testig focused o verifyig the usability of the JPL headset after restartig the Avaya 9600 Series IP Telephoes ad re-coectig the JPL headset. DevCoect Compliace Testig is coducted joitly by Avaya ad DevCoect members. The joitly-defied test pla focuses o exercisig APIs ad/or stadards-based iterfaces pertiet to the iteroperability of the tested products ad their fuctioalities. DevCoect Compliace Testig is ot iteded to substitute full product performace or feature testig performed by DevCoect members, or is it to be costrued as a edorsemet by Avaya of the suitability or completeess of a DevCoect member s solutio. Avaya s formal testig ad Declaratio of Coformity is provided oly o the headsets/hadsets that carry the Avaya brad or logo. Avaya may coduct testig of o-avaya headset/hadset to determie iteroperability with Avaya phoes. However, Avaya does ot coduct the testig of o-avaya headsets/hadsets for: Acoustic Pressure, Safety, Hearig Aid Compliace, EMC regulatios, or ay other tests to esure coformity with safety, audio quality, log-term reliability or ay regulatio requiremets. As a result, Avaya makes o represetatios whether a particular o-avaya headset will work with Avaya s telephoes or with a differet geeratio of the same Avaya telephoe. Sice there is o idustry stadard for hadset iterfaces, differet maufacturers utilize differet hadset/headset iterfaces with their telephoes. Therefore, ay claim made by a headset vedor that its product is compatible with Avaya telephoes does ot equate to a guaratee that the headset will provide adequate safety protectio or audio quality. 2 of 16

2.1. Iteroperability Compliace Testig The iteroperability compliace testig was carried out o the latest SIP ad H323 firmware for Avaya 9600 Series IP Telephoes. The followig JPL headsets were used for compliace testig. JPL 401 JPL 402 JPL 501 JPL 502 JPL 611 JPL 612 JPL TT3 Note: The TT3 headset comes i three parts, the mic boom, a moaural headbad ad a biaural headbad. This allows the user to swap out the mic boom betwee headbads. All test cases were performed maually. The followig features were verified: Placig calls to the voicemail system. Voice messages were recorded ad played back to verify that the playback volume ad recordig level were good. Placig calls from/to iteral extesios to verify two-way audio. Placig calls from/to the PSTN to verify two-way audio. Hearig rig back toe for outgoig calls. Togglig betwee hadset, speakerphoe, ad headset. Usig the volume cotrol buttos o the Avaya Telephoe to adjust the audio volume. 2.2. Test Results All compliace test cases passed successfully. The followig observatios were oted. No specific cofiguratio chages were made o the Avaya telephoe. The default headset settigs that were already i place were used durig compliace testig. 2.3. The JPL headsets are coected to the RJ9 headset port o the Avaya Telephoes usig a HIS modular plug supplied by JPL Limited. 5. Cofigure Avaya Commuicatio Maager It is assumed that a fully fuctioig Commuicatio Maager is i place with the ecessary licesig. For further iformatio o the cofiguratio of Commuicatio Maager please see Sectio 10 of these Applicatio Notes. This sectio covers the statio cofiguratio for the Avaya 9600 IP Telephoes. 5.2. Cofigure Avaya 9600 Series SIP Telephoe The SIP statio was cofigured automatically through System Maager. Use the display statio commad to view the statio for the 9630 IP deskphoe. Note: To eable Auto Aswer o the IP deskphoe set the Auto Aswer field o Page 2 to the appropriate value, such as all. Note: O the SIP deskphoe, the Headset Profile was set to 1. To set the Headset Profile, press the Meu butto o the phoe ad the avigate to Optios & Settigs Optios & Settigs Advaced Optios Headset Profile Select the Profile1 optio. 6. Cofigurig Avaya Telephoes The headset ca be used with the Avaya 9600 Series IP Telephoes settigs all left as default. Calls ca be made ad aswered usig the headset butto o the telephoe set. Some settigs ca be chaged to allow the headset be the default aswerig device for all icomig calls if required. 6.1. Settig the audio path o a Avaya 9600 IP Telephoe Each Avaya 9600 IP telephoe ca be set to go off-hook o the speaker or the headset whe a o-hook call is made.if auto-aswer is set up, icomig calls are also aswered o the default audio path desigated here. This settig also determies whether the voice diallig feature gets its iput from the speaker or the headset. Procedure is as follows. 1. Press Avaya Meu. 2. Select Optios & Settigs. 3. Press Select or OK. 4. Select Call Settigs. 5. Press Select or OK. 6. Select Audio Path. 7. Press Chage or OK or use the Right/Left arrows to chage the speaker or headset settig. Press Save. 6.2. Cofigure 46xxsettigs.txt File For H.323 Deskphoe Oly I the 46xxsettigs.txt file, the HEADSETBIDIR parameter eeds to be set to 1 so that switch hook ad alertig are eabled for the H.323 deskphoe oly. This allows icomig call alert to be heard through the headset. Alteratively, the switch hook ad alertig optios ca be eabled through the 9600 phoe meu. Press the Meu butto o the phoe ad the avigate to Optios & Settigs Call Settigs Headset Sigalig. Select the Switchhook & Alertig optio. Below is a example for settig this parameter. ############ HEADSET SETTINGS (H.323 ONLY) ############### ## ## HEADSETBIDIR specifies whether bidirectioal sigalig ## o the headset iterface will be eabled or disabled. ## Value Operatio ## 0 Disabled (default) ## 1 Switchhook ad alertig sigalig are both eabled ## 2 Oly switchhook sigalig is eabled ## This parameter is supported by: ## 96x1 H.323 R6.3 ad later (values 0-2) ## 96x1 H.323 R6.2.1 ad later (values 0-1) ## Note that 96x1 H.323 R6.2 oly supported sigalig for alertig. SET HEADSETBIDIR 1 8 of 16

For H.323 ad SIP Deskphoes I the 46xxsettigs.txt file, the HEADSYS parameter eeds to be set appropriately depedig o whether the headset butto should be deactivated automatically if the far-ed drops the call. For statios cofigured with auto-aswer, set this parameter to 1 so that the headset butto is ot deactivated whe the far-ed drops the call. This allows the subsequet call to be aswered automatically through the headset. Below is a example for settig this parameter. I this example, the parameter is set to 0, which would cause the headset butto to be deactivated whe the far-ed drops the call first. ################### CALL CENTER SETTINGS ################# ## ## HEADSYS specifies whether the telephoe will go o-hook if the headset is active ## whe a Discoect message is received. ## Value Operatio ## 0 The telephoe will go o-hook if a Discoect message is received whe the headset is active ## 1 Discoect messages are igored whe the headset is active ## Note: a value of 2 has the same effect as a value of 0, ad ## a value of 3 has the same effect as a value of 1. ## This parameter is supported by: ## 96x1 H.323 R6.2.1 ad later (the default value is 0 uless the value ## of CALLCTRSTAT is set to 1, i which case the default value is 1) ## 96x1 H.323 R6.1 ad R6.2 igore this parameter, ad will igore Discoect messages ## if the user is logged i as a call ceter aget. 7. Cofigure JPL Headsets to work with Avaya Telephoes There are several RJ9 cords available to coect the headset to the Avaya telephoe depedig o the telephoe i questio. For the Avaya 9600 series telephoes a HIS cord is used. 7.1. Coectig to Avaya 9600 Series Telephoes I coectig the JPL headset to the Avaya 9600 series telephoe the suggested cord to use is the HIS cord. Coect each headset to the HIS cord, ad the coect the HIS cord directly to the headset port of the Avaya 9600 Series IP Telephoe. 8. Verificatio Steps The followig steps ca be take to esure that coectios betwee the JPL headsets ad Avaya telephoes are achieved. 1. Whe the headset is coected to the telephoe set press the headset key o the telephoe set. The headset LED should light up ad dial toe should be heard. 2. To aswer a call press the headset key whe the telephoe is rigig agai the headset LED should be lit. 3.
