RM epad TM User Guide Please read all instructions carefully before using Please retain these instructions for future reference RM epad TM contains replaceable, rechargeable batteries Only replace the batteries with the specified types Do not allow your RM epad to come into contact with water or other liquids In the event of an electro-static discharge, your RM epad may malfunction. In this case, please follow the sequence below to reset it: - Switch off the RM epad - Disconnect the battery - Press the On/Off switch twice - Re-connect the battery - Switch the RM epad back on Warranty is void if the case is opened for any reason FCC compliance THE MANUFACTURER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY RADIO OR TV INTERFERENCE CAUSED BY UNAUTHORIZED MODIFICATIONS TO THIS EQUIPMENT. Absent if pen not docked Wireless connection to dongle Pad ID: Can be changed by holding power button and using left buttons Power on indicator Pen indicator: Flashing: pen in range Steady: pen pressed Fitting and charging the batteries The main battery for RM epad is packed separately in the box for safety reasons Remove the cover over the battery and dongle storage area, by sliding it upwards Place the RM epad on its front, with the battery hatch at the top Insert the battery in the right-hand slot, with the lead at the top left. Plug the lead into the socket inside the slot and ensure the cable is folded out of the way Only use the supplied battery or a direct equivalent Charge the battery by connecting the USB connector to a computer or the a/c adaptor using the USB lead provided. The battery may take up to 10 hours to charge for the first time During charging, the battery indicator will flash. When charging is complete the battery indicator will stop flashing When the battery is charged, the RM epad is ready to be used wirelessly The pen uses a rechargeable AAA NiMH battery. To insert the pen battery, unscrew the top of the pen on the end that is colored gray. Lift open the pen compartment. Insert the battery and screw the pen top back on. To use the RM epad without first charging the battery, connect the RM epad directly to your computer using the USB lead provided Do not connect the RM epad and the receiver dongle to your computer at the same time www.rmepad.com 5
RM epad TM User Guide Installation Microsoft Windows Vista and above provides a driver-free installation. Plug the wireless dongle into a spare USB port. Windows will recognize the new device and it will be ready to use within a few seconds Microsoft Windows XP will also install the driver automatically when the USB dongle is plugged in. However it will take a little longer to complete and may require the PC to be restarted Mac OS X may install a driver when the USB dongle is plugged in. However it will recognize it as a keyboard device and ask you to press a shift key. Simply ignore this step To use the software keyboard (in the lower extended digitizer area) you must first install the keyboard manager software on the CD. Insert the CD into you computer and follow the on-screen instructions Using the RM epad 1. Plug the wireless USB dongle into a spare USB port on the computer 2. Press and hold the On/Off button on the RM epad TM for 1/2 second until the LCD panel comes on 3. The red light on the On/Off button will flash until the RM epad locates the wireless USB dongle 4. If the USB dongle cannot be located, the RM epad will switch off after a few seconds 5. There is a button on the USB dongle and one on the rear of the RM epad to force the pairing of the two devices. Press both buttons for 10 seconds for pairing 6. Touch the pen to the RM epad writing area (digitizer) to bring the pen out of standby. The pen can then be used to control the cursor position on the computer 7. Move the pen within 1 of the digitizer surface for it to locate the pen position 8. Press the pen lightly onto the digitizer to simulate a "left-click", or press the buttons on the side of the pen for "right-click" or "center-click" operations 9. To use the laser in the pen (optional feature), press and hold the laser button Do not under any circumstance point the laser at anyone's eyes 10. Version 2 Keyboard software installation The RM epad TM is supplied with software on the CD to enable the lower part of the digitizer area, the extended digitzer, to be used as a keyboard. This enables the user to enter text while remote from the computer. To install the software: 1. Connect the RM epad (using the supplied USB cable) or the wireless dongle to a spare USB port on your computer. 2. Insert the RM epad software CD into your CD drive. 3. The installation program will automatically start. If it doesn t please run Setup.exe (or epad installer.dmg if you are using a Mac) found on the CD. 4. If you are using Windows 7 or Vista you may be prompted for your permission to continue with the installation. Click Yes and the RM epad Software Welcome screen appears. Then do the following depending on your computer: PC 5. Click Next. The License Agreement screen appears. 6. Select I Accept... and click Next. The Destination folder screen appears. 7. Select the drive where you want to install RM epad, and then click Next. The Default Keyboard screen appears. 8. Choose the default keyboard language from the drop down, and then click Next. The installation Summary screen appears. 9. Click Install. The setup now starts installing the files. 10. Click Finish. or Mac 5. Click Continue. 6. Click Install. 7. You will be prompted to restart your Mac. Click Continue Installation for the software to be installed. 8. When complete, an 'installation successful' screen will be displayed. Click Restart. Once installed the RM epad icon should appear in your task bar notification area (or Menu bar on a Mac) each time the device is connected to the computer. This can be used to change the keyboard language or to access the RM epad Help (internet connection required) by right clicking on the icon. www.rmepad.com 7

Version 2 Troubleshooting RM epad TM is designed to work reliably and predictably in all normal conditions. However, it is possible that problems may occur. Check for interference from other wireless devices Power light and LCD are on and indicating, but buttons and pen have no effect The RM epad may need resetting. Follow the instructions on page 2 to reset My pen isn t recognized by the pad If the pen is not replaced into the epad after use, the battery will drain, and if left long enough, will no longer be charged by the epad. If the pen no longer charges, please remove the battery from the pen and recharge using a normal consumer battery charger. Also, be sure that the battery is positioned correctly in the pen. The positioning of the battery is the reverse of the standard positioning. www.rmepad.com 9
