Overview Lane County mapping applications help users find a wide variety of information, including; parcels, addresses, elected official and political boundaries, transportation, vegetation, survey data and documents, and land use planning for a specific area. This document describes the applications tools and how to perform common tasks with them. Tools The application provides tools for map navigation, changing the display, obtaining information and sharing the map. Figure 1 shows the layout and names of the tools provided by the application. Navigation Tools Table 2 describes how to use navigation tools. Table 2 Navigation Tools Tool Name Use Zoom In Zooms the map in or out. 1 o Click the plus or minus sign. 2 Zoom Out o Alternatively, with the cursor over the map, hold down the shift key and drag the mouse around the desired zoom area. Previous Extent Changes the map extent based on previous actions. 3 o Click the left or right arrow. Next Extent 4 5 6 7 8 12 13 14 Home Current Location Find Address Lane County Quick Search Street / Bird s Eye View Bookmarks Zoom To: Zoom to Scale Zoom to Coordinate Filter Closures and Construction Press the home button to return the map to the full extent of the County. Zooms the map to the current location of your computer or device. o Location accuracy depends on the accuracy provided by the computer or device. Finds an address. o Type in the address to find. o As you type, a list of candidates may appear. o Select the desired address from the list. o The map will zoom to the selected address. Finds addresses, parcels roads or township range section. o Searches may be performed by searching data attributes or drawing a shape. o Buffers may be created to select features within proximity to selected features. o Figure 2 shows the instructions for using Quick Search. Opens Google Street View and Bing Bird s Eye view o Click on a location on the map to zoom to show the street level view in a new window. o Click the Full Page link to see the street view in a full page. o Toggle the Map, Street, Bird s Eye and Info check boxes to see the desired view. Zooms to a predefined location. o Click on the desired bookmark. o The map will zoom to the location. o To add a bookmark, zoom the map to the location then type a name in the bookmark field and press the plus sign as shown below. Zooms to a scale or coordinate. o To set the scale, type in the scale and press Set Scale. o The map will zoom to the scale. o To zoom to a coordinate, type in the x and y values and press Set Coordinate. o The map will zoom to the coordinate and place a marker at the location. If desired, press Clear Graphics to remove the marker. Note: This tool is only available in the Road Closures and Construction Mapping Application. It highlights features on the map based on predefined filters. To filter closures and construction: o Click on the desired filter. o Click Apply on the options page. o The Results page lists the filtered features. Filtered features are highlighted on the map. Figure 2 Lane County Quick Search As shown below, Lane County Quick Search allows searching by shape, attributes and spatial buffers. To perform a search, first choose the appropriate tab then select the search layer. The list below describes the process for completing the search for each type. 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 Draw Search - Select the type of shape to draw then draw the shape over the area in which you wish to select features. Text Search Type in the data to search for and then press the Search button. Note: Draw Search and Text Search allow the option of creating a new selection, adding to a current selection or removing features from a current selection. Click the dropdown next to the search layer to select an option. Create new results is the default. By using the different Shape options individual features may be added or removed from the total Selected features. Buffer Select This function acts on the results from a Draw or Text search. When results are available, enter the search distance to buffer then press the buffer button. A buffer will be drawn around the selected features. To selects features within the buffer, choose the layer to select from then choose the selection criteria. Features within the buffer of the second spatial search will be added to the original results. a a. Features entirely Contained in the buffer b b. Features which Intersect the buffer a b c c c. Features which Intersect the buffer s envelope Results Results are displayed in the Results tab and in the Attribute Table at the bottom of the screen. The selected features will also be highlighted on the map. a a Attribute Table: As shown below, in addition to the Results tab, selected features are listed in the Attribute Table at the bottom of the screen. Click on rows in the table to select features. Use the options menu to Show selected records, filter by map extent, show or hide columns or export selected records to a csv file. Display Tools Table 3 describes how to use display tools. Table 3 Display Tools Tool Name Use Table of Contents Lists layers available for the map. 9 o Click the triangle next to the layer to see its symbols. o Click the square or check mark next to the layer to turn it on or off. You may need to zoom in or out for some layers to appear on the map. o Click on the down arrow on the right side of the layer label to set transparency, zoom to the layer, reorder it in the map or read its description. 10 11 16 Legend Basemap Gallery Map Markup Displays the symbols used for the currently visible layers. Selects a basemap. o Click the desired basemap. o The basemap will change. Adds markups to the map. o Choose the type of drawing mode o Choose the options for the selected drawing mode. o Markup the map as desired. o To remove the markups from the map, press the Clear button. 21 Overview Map Displays a high-level map which can be used to quickly pan the main map. o Click the arrow then drag the highlighted area on the overview map to pan the main map. o Click arrow again to hide the overview map. Information Tools Table 4 describes how to use information tools. Table 4 Information Tools Tool Name Use Identify Displays a popup of information about features in the area clicked. o Use the cursor arrow to click on a point on the map. o The number of features located at the point clicked is displayed in the top left corner of the popup. o Click the triangle in the top right corner to scroll through all the features at the location. Only features whose layer is turned on will appear in the popup. 15 Measure o If available, click on links in the popup for more information. o Click on the zoom to link to zoom to the location. Measures lengths or areas on the map. o Choose the type of measurement mode (line or shape). o Choose the options for the measurement symbols (colors, width font, etc.). o Choose the options for the measurement units. o Draw the line or area to be measured. The measurement will appear on the map. o To remove the measurement from the map, click the Clear link. 22 20 Attribute Table Help Displays information about selected features. o See Figure 2 Lane County Quick Search for more information. Sharing Tools Table 5 describes how to use sharing tools. Table 5 Sharing Tools Tool Name Use Print Prints the current map to a file. 17 o o o o Enter the map title and select the layout and file format. Optionally, press the Advanced button to customize the output. Preserving the map scale may result in some of the map being cutoff in the printout. Preserving the map extent ensures the entire map is included, but items may be smaller than desired. Set the map size and print quality as desired. The file is shown in a list. Click on the file to open and download it. Press the Clear Prints button to clear the list of files. 18 Saved Maps Saves map extent, markup and layers for retrieval later. o To save a map, type in a unique name and press Save. o To retrieve a map hover over the saved map and click the retrieve icon. 19 Share Shares map on social media sites or by links or embedding. o To share via social media, click on the appropriate icon. o To share via link, click on the email icon or copy the Map Link. o To embed in a web page, copy the Embed Map code and paste into an html page. Common Tasks Common tasks are described below. Identify or Show Data about Features To find out information about features on the map: 1. Click on a point on the map. 2. A popup of information is displayed about features that intersect that point. 3. The number of features is displayed in the top left corner of the popup. a. Click the triangle in the top right corner to scroll through the features. b. If available, click on links in the popup for more information. 4. Click on the zoom to link to zoom to the location. Note: Only features whose layer is turned on will appear in the popup. Use the Table of Contents turn layers on or off. Find an Address Follow these steps to find an address. 1. Click on Lane County Quick Search 2. Click the Text Search tab. 3. Select the Address layer. 4. Enter the Address. 5. Press the Search Button or Enter. Search results are shown on the map, in the Search Results tab and in the attribute table as shown below. Search Results Tab. Map Attribute Table Find an Address Helpful Hints: Enter the search text in the form of <house number> <direction> <street name> where <house number> = the number of the address (i.e. 88771) <direction> = the direction of the street if the address includes one (i.e. N,S,W,E) <street name> = the name of the street (i.e. Evers) The search returns all addresses with the leftmost match to the search text. Therefore the complete address number must be entered before the direction or street name. To limit results, enter more information. To expand results, enter less information. For best results, enter only the street name, not the type. For example, enter 88771 evers rather than 88771 evers road. Roads must match the official spelling, for example HWY 126 rather than Highway 126. If unsure of the road name, search for the road using the road layer as the search layer. Select Features by Location Follow these steps to select features by location: 1. Click on Lane County Quick Search 2. Click the Draw Search tab. 3. Select the layer. 4. Select option to a. Create new results (default) b. Add to current results c. Remove from current results 5. Select the shape to draw. 6. Draw the shape in which to select features. Search results are shown on the map, in the Search Results tab and in the attribute table is shown below. Search Results Tab. Create a Buffer and Select Features by Buffer Follow these steps to create a buffer and select features by buffer. 1. Use Lane County Quick Search to search for features by Attribute or Shape. (See Figure 2 or the Find an Address or Select Features by Location sections of this document). 2. When results are available, click on the Buffer Select tab. 3. Enter the search distance to buffer. 4. Press the buffer button. 5. A buffer will be drawn on the map. a b c 6. To select features within the buffer, choose the layer to select in the buffer. 7. Choose the selection criteria. 8. Choose whether to select features using the buffer or the original selection. a a. Features entirely Contained in the buffer b b. Create a Mailing List To create a mailing list, follow these steps: 1. Ensure the Address or Parcel layer with the addresses is checked in the Table of Contents. 2. Select the addresses or parcels for the list so that they appear in the Attribute Table at the bottom of the screen. a. Option 1: Use the Create a Buffer and Select Features by Buffer process to select addresses or parcels within a specified distance of selected roads, addresses or parcels. See previous section. b. Option 2: Use Lane County Quick Search to select addresses or parcels by drawing a shape or by searching attributes. See Figure 2 Lane County Quick Search. 3. From the Options menu on the Attribute Table, select Export to CSV. 4. Press OK to download the address list. The list may be opened with Excel or any program that supports Comma Separated Values (CSV) files. Lane County Maps Mapping Application User Guide - 13
Filter Road Closures and Construction Note: This feature is only available in the Road Closures and Construction mapping application. Road closures and construction projects can be filtered so that Closures, Projects or Project Points are highlighted on the map. Follow these steps to Filter Road Closures and Construction. 1. Use the Filter Road Closures and Construction tool. 2. Click the type of filter: Road Closures, Construction Project Areas, or Construction Project Points. 3. On the Options page, click Apply to apply the filter. Optionally check Use spatial filter to limit features or Add result as an operational layer. 4. The Results page lists the features based on the filter. Click a feature in the list to zoom to it. Features will also be highlighted on the map. 5. Click Clear Results to clear the results.
