Margins and the Ruler Horizontal Ruler Click View Ruler to show or hide them Vertical Ruler You will see the horizontal ruler below the ribbon and the vertical ruler on the left. The rulers show the margins as a gray shaded area. Indents The margins of individual paragraphs or lines can be changed. This is called the paragraph's indentation. Increase or decrease the left indent of an entire paragraph 1. Select the paragraph you want to change. 2. On the Home tab, click the Increase Indent or Decrease Indent buttons. 3. Microsoft Word increases the indent by one tab stop. By default 1 tab stop is 1 cm. If you want to change the position of the indent, you can first set a different tab stop. Change the right indent of an entire paragraph 1. Select the paragraph you want to change. 2. If you don't see the horizontal ruler, click View Ruler above the right scroll bar 3. Line Spacing You can change the spacing between the lines or the spacing before or after each paragraph. Change line spacing 1. Select the text you want to change. 2. On the Formatting toolbar, click Line Spacing, and then do one of the following: To apply a new setting, click the arrow, and then select the number that you want. To apply the most recently used setting, click the button.
