Welcome 1.1 Welcome to the Trimble CU Model 3 and Trimble S3 Servo/Autolock Total Station OS update instructions. These instructions will guide you through the steps needed to update the Operating System (OS) with the help of the Trimble CU Updater software. In these instructions the Trimble CU Model 3 will be refered to as the Controller, the Operating System will be refered to as the OS and The Trimble S3 Servo/Autolock Total Station will be refered to as the instrument. All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners. System Requirements 1.3 The following requirements are needed to perform the OS update. PC Requirements 13.1 Here are the requirements for the PC. Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 32-bit Microsoft.Net 3.5 Visual C++ 2005 runtime Active Sync 4.2 (Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows Vista & Windows 7) PDF-reader Equipment 13.2 Here are the equipment needed. Trimble CU Model 3 or Trimble S3 Servo/Autolock Total Station Docking station for the Trimble CU Model 3 Power Supply and USB to Hirose cable Trimble CU Updater OS Update Instructions 2
Trimble CU Model 3 Set up 1.4 The following describes how to set up your controller for OS update. Connect to Docking Station 14.1 Connect the controller to a Docking Station. Figure 1.1 Connecting the controller to the Docking Station Connect Communication and Power Supply 14.2 Connect the Docking Station s +12V connector to +12V power supply and the Com connector to a USB connector on your PC. Trimble S3 Servo/Autolock Total Station Set up 1.5 The following describes how to set up your instrument for OS update. Connect communication from the USB connector on the side of the control panel to the USB connector on your computer. Figure 1.3 Connecting communication between instrument and PC. Update OS 1.6 Follow the steps below to update your OS version. 1. Connect and start your controller or instrument. 2. Create a back up of your job files. 3. Double click on thetrimble Icon to start the Trimble CU Updater, files will be extracted and the Trimble CU Updater will be started. Figure 1.5 Files being extracted. Note If connection is not established automatically, see Manual Connection on page 13. The controller or instrument and Trimble CU Updater will display that communication has been established, see Figure 1.8 and see Figure 1.9. Trimble CU Updater OS Update Instructions 7

The Trimble CU Updater will display which files that are to be down loaded to the controller or instrument. The files are selected by default. The Options check box will be selected by default. The option will back up and restore Trimble application settings e.g. license code for field software. Trimble CU Updater OS Update Instructions 9

Manual Connection 10.1 If the controller or instrument do not connect automatically follow the instructions below. 1. Restart controller or instrument by selecting Restart CU in the Trimble CU Updater. Figure 1.13 Restart controller or instrument from Trimble CU Updater. 2. During restart hold down the ESC key on the controller or instrument keyboard until the following is displayed in the controller or instrument display. Trimble CU Updater OS Update Instructions 13
Figure 1.14 System menu in the controller or instrument display. 3. Step down with the spider key, arrow down to Image Down load Mode and press Enter on the controller or instrument keyboard. The following is displayed in the controller or instrument display.
