C H A P T E R 2 About Parallels Helm Parallels Helm Web Hosting Control System is an extremely powerful hosting automation solution for Windows 2000 and Windows.NET servers. Parallels Helm is owned by Parallels, a global leader in virtualization and automation software. Web site: http://www.parallels.com/en/products/helm/

C H A P T E R 3 About This Guide This guide explains how to install and configure ASP for Microsoft IIS 7 within Parallels Helm.

C H A P T E R 4 Installing the Classic ASP for Microsoft IIS 7 Module Classic ASP is a Provider Extension which means it is an extension of another Provider module. In this case, the Provider that it extends is the Microsoft IIS 7 module. Therefore, in order to use the ASP Support module, you must first have the Microsoft IIS 7 module installed. For details on doing this, please refer to the Parallels 4.1 Microsoft IIS 7 Provider Guide (http://www.parallels.com/en/products/helm/docs/). After installing this, you can then install the Classic ASP module. To install the Classic ASP module: 1 Open the Parallels Helm Configuration Tool on your server. Click the Installed Modules button, and you will see all of the available modules for Parallels Helm. 2 Find the Classic ASP for Microsoft IIS 7 module in the list and check the box, and then click the Install/Uninstall Modules button to install it. The ASP for IIS 7 module is now installed on your Parallels Helm build. Read on to learn how to use it in Parallels Helm.

C H A P T E R 5 Configuring Classic ASP for Microsoft IIS 7 The Classic ASP for Microsoft IIS 7 module is a module that allows you to host sites which can support ASP (Active Server Pages) through IIS (sites that can use extensions such as.asp). To configure the ASP settings: 1 Go to the IIS service you have set up: Home > Helm System > Servers > [Server] > Services > [IIS 7 Service] 2 Scroll down and you will the Classic ASP Support details: Make Classic ASP available to users: check this box to make ASP available to users. Handler Mapping name for IIS 7: Set a friendly name for classic ASP for IIS 7 hander mapping (ASPClassic by default). Classic ASP Path: This is the path to the ASP DLL file on the server, which IIS uses to run ASP. File Extensions: Here you can specify the extensions that will be added to a website s IIS configuration when ASP is enabled in the Scripting Support section of the Domain menu in Parallels Helm.

C H A P T E R 6 Enabling ASP on a New Web Site Now that you have configured ASP support in Parallels Helm, you can start enabling it on your domains. To enable ASP for a Web site: 1 Go to your domain in Parallels Parallels Helm, for example: Home > My Domains > [domain] or Home > My Customers > [Customer Name] > Domains > [domain] or a similar location if you have resellers, and customers underneath them and you will be presented with the Domain menu (this screen will differ depending on what services are installed on your domain). 2 Click the Scripting Support icon and you will be taken to the Scripting Support page. Scroll down until you get to the ASP Scripting Support options: ASP Enabled: Check the box to ASP support on the domain. Once done, it will add ASP extensions to the domain in IIS, based on the extensions you specified in the IIS Service earlier in this guide. Parent Paths Enabled: Check the box to enable Parent Paths on the domain. This option enables Parent Paths on the domain in IIS. This is useful for site developers, since it permits you to use.. in calls to functions such as MapPath by allowing paths that are relative to the current directory using the..\ notation.] Sends Error to Browser: Check this box to enable error notices while surfing the site on a browser. 3 Once you have made your choices, click Save to save the Scripting Support services for the domain.

C H A P T E R 7 Enabling ASP Support on an Existing Web Site To add the ASP support service to a domain that has already been set up in Parallels Helm: 1 Go to the domain in Parallels Helm and click the Services tab at the top. 2 Check the Classic ASP for Microsoft IIS 7 extension checkbox and click Save to allocate the ASP Service to the domain. 3 Follow the procedure of enabling ASP on the domain in the next chapter.

C H A P T E R 8 Enabling ASP Support during Domain Creation You may want to save some time by having ASP support added to domains as soon as they are created. Parallels Helm allows you to do this via a feature called Provisioning Methods. Effectively, this allows you to select certain features and services which will get added/enabled on your domain when they that domain is added into Helm. ASP Scripting Support is one of those services. To enable ASP support for a domain created: 1 Go to Home > My Plan Templates > [Template] and scroll down to the Provisioning Methods section. 2 Click Add and give the provisioning method a friendly name (for example, Enable ASP). 3 Once done, select (Web Extension) Set ASP Status from the Available Methods drop down box. 4 A new parameter will become available the ASP installed checkbox. Check this box to enable ASP Support to be activated on any domain that is added using this Plan Template. 5 Click Save to save the Provisioning Method.
