Application Visibility in Virtualized Environment
Application Visibility in Virtualized Environment Today, most enterprises run their business in virtualized infrastructure. Heterogeneous application workloads are distributed across VMs running in different physical servers virtualized by different hypervisor technologies such as VMWare ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V and Citrix XenServer. Virtualized environments are dynamic with hypervisor-managed activities such as real-time workload scale up, scale down, vmotion, etc. Operations planning, management and troubleshooting such as workload placement, capacity planning, application troubleshooting, migration and maintenance planning in virtualized environment is challenging and risky without application visibility in the virtualized stack. 2
Lack of visualization negatively impacts these key operations: Migration from legacy to virtualized infrastructure Ability to effectively move workloads across distributed infrastructure Applications troubleshooting On-demand capacity planning Ability to predict capacity needs, fault and performance degradation events 3
FixStream Solution: FixStream big data AIOps correlation, visualization and analytics platform provides a single pane of glass view into enterprise virtualized environments to make the operations activities seamless, automated and reliable. FixStream s capabilities include: 1. Auto-discovery of physical and virtual infrastructure and network components 2. Dynamic topology map that shows you how infrastructure entities are connected 3. Discovery of application services and flows to build the application dependency map 4. Performance Center with holistic performance behavior of virtualized entities 5. Heatmap for workload placement and resource optimization 6. Reporting and data exploration capabilities for planning, migration and compliance activities 4
Auto-discovery of Virtualization Environment Create a detailed and accurate inventory of your dynamic, virtualized environment Auto-discovers hypervisors, VMs, virtual network via APIs provided by hypervisors such as VMware PYSPHERE, Xen, etc. Discovers application services such as O/S level processes, web server, application server, DB services hosted in the VMs Delivers a dynamic end to end inventory with all servers, hypervisors, VMs within the virtualized environment with meaningful ways to query the data in the inventory 5
Topology view FixStream builds real-time and dynamic topology to show how the virtualized environment is connected to the physical network and storage layer Topology view is dynamic and reflects changes happening in the virtualized environment in near real-time (e.g. new VMs are added or removed, vmotion moves the location of VMs) Shows links, relationships between vswitch, hypervisor, TOR switch, routers, etc. and each link and interface is discovered and displayed in topology view Topology view is overlaid with real-time performance alerts and fault scenarios 6
Application discovery and dependency mapping (iman) FixStream discovers the application services and service flows within VMs and logically group them in context with business application The application map (iman) correlates service flows to available network paths for each flow, storage map for VMs The iman is overlaid with real-time operational data such as performance alerts (CPU, memory, disk, IO), service alerts, faults, tickets, log alerts, etc. iman provides application centric visibility within virtualized environment and significantly reduce Mean-Time-to-Repair (MTTR) for critical business problems 7
Performance Center and Resource Heatmap FixStream generates a performance heatmap of the VMs across the environment using aggregated usage data (CPU, Memory, Disk) based on a sliding scale of weights for CPU, memory and disk usage (default being 33.33% for each) The heatmap provides analytical visibility for resource realignment and optimization with visibility into the over-allocated and under-utilized and underallocated and over-utilized scenarios The performance heatmap helps with optimal application workload placement by providing insight into available resources 8
vcenter Visualization and application correlation Enriches the data and widgets available in WMware vcenter by grouping and correlation to context of application and device groups The FixStream vcenter dashboard is built via integrating with available vcenter APIs 9
Data Exploration for Planning, Auditing and Compliance Reporting and data exploration for IT compliance and auditing in dynamic virtualized environment is complex and time consuming The data explorer view provides an automated way to extract required data based on the requirement in few clicks, eliminating the extensive timeconsuming manual methods 10
Storage Visibility in Virtualized Environment For applications deployed in virtualized environment, storage performance is a critical component for service assurance FixStream storage map provides the end to end mapping at a VM or hypervisor level into LUN, volume, storage pool, NFS, controller, aggregate, disk array and datastore 11
