3. ANS: B REF: Mod1-37 4. ANS: D REF: Mod1-37 5. ANS: A REF: Mod1-37 ESSAY 1. What is biometrics and what are some common biometric identification techniques? What is the process for basically all identification techniques? What are some reasons people might be concerned about the widespread use of biometric systems? ANS: Biometrics is an authentication technique using automated methods of recognizing a person based on a physiological or behavioral characteristics. Common types of biometric identification techniques include using a person s fingerprints, face, handwriting, or voice. The basic process is that the user enrolls in the system by establishing a baseline measurement for comparison, then the user presents biological proof of his or her identity to the capture system, then the system compares the submitted sample with the stored sample. People might be concerned about using biometric data because unauthorized parties can access someone s data without their consent and link it to other information, resulting in secondary uses of the information. This would erode the users personal control over their private information. REF: Mod1-39 Mod1-40 TOP: Critical Thinking
