Release Notes System requirements 5 Symantec Virtual Composer supported platforms Table 1-4 Symantec Virtual Composer Edition 64-bit 32-bit Operating systems Windows 7 Windows Vista SP2 Windows 7 Windows XP SP3 Windows Vista SP2 System requirements The following are system requirements for the endpoints, Streaming Server, and Virtual Composer: Table 1-5 Endpoint requirements System component System Processor System memory Free disk space Requirement Same as recommended by the operating system and installed applications. Same as recommended by the operating system and installed applications. 50 MB of free disk space plus additional space as required by installed applications. Table 1-6 Streaming Server requirements System component System Processor System memory Free disk space Requirement Minimum 1 GHz of processor capability. 2-GB memory minimum. 2 GB of free disk space. In addition, the applications to be uploaded on the server require three times their space. Table 1-7 Virtual Composer requirements System component System Processor System memory Requirement Same as recommended by the operating system. 1-GB memory minimum. Additional space is required according to the recommendations of the applications that you want to package.
6 Release Notes Fixed issues Table 1-7 Virtual Composer requirements (continued) System component Free disk space Requirement 30 MB of free disk space, plus three times the size of the package. Fixed issues The following are fixed issues in this release: Fixed Issues in Symantec Workspace Virtualization Table 1-8 Fixed Issues in Symantec Workspace Virtualization 6.1 SP8 MP2 Fixed an issue where fonts were not displayed correctly when you activated a layer that had its fonts virtualized. Fixed an issue where in certain situations, delete entries for registry keys were not created when they were deleted from the read-only sublayer. This behavior then resulted in their deletion from the read-only sublayer. Fixed an issue where certain functionality in 32-bit applications was affected when layers were activated. This behavior would occur because keys under HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Classes were blocked when a layer was set to activate on system startup. Fixed an issue where upgrade packages would fail when a layer's name was greater than 49 characters. Fixed a layer capture issue where services with an image path greater than 260 bytes did not get captured. Fixed a behavior where the Browser Selector Object (BSO) would leave an empty tab open in Internet Explorer. Fixed an issue where the Browser Selector Object (BSO) failed to access Google news Web pages. Fixed an issue in the virtualization driver that caused an occasional deadlock condition. The condition would occur during system startup with your layers that you set to activate on system startup. Fixed an issue where registry values larger than 8kb were not copied to the [USER_TEMPLATE] area. Fixed an issue where the driver writes a symbolic link value to the font key in the registry. Release Notes Known Issues 7 Symantec Workspace Streaming Fixed Issues Table 1-9 Fixed issues in Symantec Workspace Streaming 6.1 SP8 MP2 Fixed an issue where in certain environments, as part of a typical NTLM authentication process, the launch server logs received a warning message each time an application was streamed. Made performance enhancements to Streaming Console pages. These enhancements improve responsiveness when you click the Package link, the User link, and the Manage License link. Fixed an issue that would cause Front-End servers to require a restart whenever the Streaming Engine was restarted. The Streamlet Engine now confirms the acceptance of offline session report data immediately. When offline report data is received, a separate thread is created to process offline session report data. This fix lets users continue to stream applications while the server continues to process offline session report data. Symantec Workspace Streaming now supports AD sites and services to help improve CPU utilization on the domain controller. Fixed an issue in Symantec Virtual Composer where the [PROGRAM FILES (x86)] path variable was written incorrectly. Improved stability of the JBOSS component to prevent connection factory errors. Changed behavior in the Streamlet Engine to more quickly reconnect LDAP automatically after a domain controller comes back online. Improved the STE startup time by making the startup threads configurable. The package validation interval is now configurable. Fixed and issue where an LDAP query retrieved too much information and affected fetch times. Identifier Known Issues The following are known issues in this release: Table 1-10 Known Issues in Symantec Workspace Virtualization 6.1 SP8 MP2 Identifier
8 Release Notes Other things to know Table 1-11 Known Issues in Symantec Workspace Streaming 6.1 SP8 MP2 Identifier If you log in into console as package admin, the console home page displays a warning about package corruption for all non-provisioned applications. Other things to know The following are additional things to know about in this release: After restarting the STE, you may need to wait for some time for uploading of packages. This wait time is bound to number of the packages that have been uploaded. On average, 3000 packages with a single FE take about 15 minutes. This time can increase for each additional FE server in your environment. If the streaming session is terminated on the server but the client is still running the application, then Symantec Workspace Streaming reauthenticates the session. This action is done automatically for NTLM authentication. If not using NTLM authentication, the user is prompted for credentials and then the session continues. When upgrading from SP7 to SP8 you must upgrade all server components. You must upgrade all components because of a protocol change between SP7 MP2 and SP8. SP7 MP2 Front-End Servers cannot communicate with SP8 or later Back-end Servers. There are configuration file changes in Symantec Workspace Streaming 6.1 SP8 MP2. The following changes in the files are included with new installations but are not applied to upgrading existing installations. They are not applied to upgrades to prevent overwriting of the current configuration in existing installations. The following are the changes: Table 1-12 Configuration changes File name Properties New Values DA.CONF torque.dsfactory.appstream.pool.maxactive * Default=300 Modified existing property default value. Changed from 200 to 300.
Release Notes Other things to know 9 Table 1-12 Configuration changes (continued) File name Properties New Values torque.dsfactory.appstream.pool.maxidle * Default=20 Modified existing property default value. Changed from 5 to 20. STE.CONF package.validation.interval.hrs * Default=168, package validation starts every 168 hrs Modified existing property default value. Changed from 12 hrs to 168hrs. PROVISION.XML Changed the default to not to look for the primary group. This search is not necessary post Windows 2000 AD releases. This change enables the LdapGroupSearchFilter to work properly. Otherwise any group filtering does not work with the primary group flag set to true. PROVISION_AD.XML Changed back search for the groups that are considered security groups and not distribution groups STE service arguments
10 Release Notes Other things to know Table 1-12 Configuration changes (continued) File name Properties New Values Modified ASWEStreamletEngine service parameters in regedit to -Xmx256 to have more heap space The following are configuration file additions in Symantec Workspace Streaming 6.1 SP8 MP2. These changes are applicable to both new installations as and are also applicaple to upgrades. Table 1-13 Configuration Additions File name Properties New Values STE.CONF package.validation.start.hrs * Default=12, package validation starts after 12 hours Added property to control when package validation needs to be started after STE startup. * If value=0, validation starts immediately.
Release Notes User's and Administrator's guides 11 Table 1-13 Configuration Additions (continued) File name Properties New Values sync.app.status.ste.startup * Default=false, starts up STE service quickly and leave pending operations for concurrent execution. Added property to control post STE initialization operation. * If value=true, STE comes to up state after sync app completes CONFIG.PROPERTIES jms.connect.req.timeout.seconds * Default=3600secs. Added a property to set the time to live value in the JMS request Jms.connect.timeout.seconds=20 20 Time factor to leave/wait for a JMS reply in seconds.
