1 VistA for Education (DVD): HELP document WINDOWS VISTA and WINDOWS 7 INSTALLATION Note: Currently the National Training and Dissemination Center (NTDC) can only confirm successful installations of VistA for Education on 32-bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Installations have also been tested on 64-bit versions of other Windows operating systems, but various issues were discovered. Therefore these additional operating systems cannot be fully supported at this time. The following instructions are specific to installing VistA for Education on Windows Vista or 7 (32-bit). Minimum System Requirements (IMPORTANT) 1. Minimum of 5 GB of free disk space is required on the system c:\ drive. To determine free disk space: - Open System by clicking the Start button, clicking Computer, right-clicking Local Disk (C:), and then clicking Properties. 2. Minimum of 1 GB RAM is recommended. To determine amount of RAM: - Open System by clicking the Start button, right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties. Under System, the Memory (RAM): value should be 1.00 GB or greater. 3. To verify that you have a 32-bit OS: - Open System by clicking the Start button, right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties. Under System, the System type: should be 32-bit Operating System 4. Administrative rights on the system. Additional Suggestions: 1. If you have PUTTY.exe installed on your system you should delete it from the system. 2. If you have Cache database installed on the system, you should also remove it before installing (use the uninstall program from the Control Panel). 3. Local firewalls may need to be disabled for VistA application connection success.

2 Installation procedures: 1. Insert the DVD into the DVD drive of your computer and wait a few seconds for it to play. 2. If the AutoPlay dialogue window shown below displays, choose the option Open folder to view files and then proceed to step 5. 3. If you see the menu below display, close it by clicking the X in the upper right corner.

3 4. Open the list of files on the DVD by clicking the Start button, click Computer, right-click CD Drive (D:) VISTA4EDUV# and click Open. 5. In the list of files on the DVD, right-click on CDStarter and click Properties

4 6. Click the Compatibility tab. Click the checkbox Run this program as an administrator and click OK. 7. Now launch the installation menu by double-clicking the file CDautorun

5 8. A User Account Control window should appear, click Yes or Allow to continue. Windows 7 Windows Vista 9. Unless you have VistA already installed, choose Install ALL and wait for the installation to complete. A full VistA installation will normally take 5-10 minutes and you will need to hit the ENTER key a couple of times as prompted during the installation. MENU OPTIONS: Read Me directions and information about content of the DVD. Please read this file for more information. Install ALL - a complete installation of all components of the VistA application and this would be what you would normally choose. NOTE: - Unless you have VistA already installed on your computer, choose Install ALL only Do not try any of the other options. VistA Refresh from DVD If you already have VistA installed, selecting this option will overwrite the installed VistA database with the one from the DVD. NOTE: A desktop Refresh VistA option is available to refresh the VistA database if the DVD is unavailable.

6 Uninstall ALL if you have a version of VistA already installed on your machine, choose this menu item to perform a complete uninstall. Proceed with the Install ALL option once the Uninstall has completed. AFTER INSTALLATION Upon successful installation two folders Cache_Management and VistA_Apps will be added to your desktop. You will also see one shortcut added: Refresh VistA. These are shown in the screen capture below. In addition, a blue Cache' management cube will be added to the Windows System tray in the lower right of the desktop:

7 Logging into CPRS Chart: Open the desktop folder VistA_Apps to reveal several files as shown below. CPRS Chart will be the GUI to VistA most often accessed by users and will be the interface used for many of the lab exercises.

8 Double-click CPRS Chart to display the login screen as shown below. You may login as different types of users such as Nurse, Doctor, Clerk, Clinical Application Coordinator, etc. You will find Access and Verify codes for each of these users listed at the end of this document. Logging into the Roll and Scroll environment of VistA: Open the desktop folder VistA_Apps to reveal VistATerminal. Double-click VistATerminal to log into the Roll and Scroll environment of VistA (see login screen below). This provides access to additional tools in a line command environment for customizing the EHR. You may use one of the pairs of access and verify codes listed at the end of this document. Since the login is role based, students will see different menus based on the role they login as e.g. doctor vs. clinical coordinator. This more primitive Roll and Scroll environment will be the other environment students will log into in order to complete their lab assignments for Components 7 and 11.

9 Additional Information: 1. A full VistA DVD installation (Install ALL) will perform the following tasks - install Cache' 2008.2 into c:\cachesys. - install a test VistA database with fictitious patient data - create several directories including c:\uva c:\cachesys c:\hfs c:\program files\vista c:\program files\common files\intersystems - two desktop folders and two desktop shortcuts will be created:...desktop\vista_apps...desktop\cache_management...desktop \Refresh VistA adds "127.0.0.1 BROKERSERVER" to local hosts file copies putty.exe to c:\windows\system32 creates c:\temp\uva_uninstall.bat

The Uninstall ALL option will perform the following tasks: - stop Cache', delete two Cache' services (Cache_c-_cachesys and CACHEhttpd) and remove the registry software entry for Intersystems. - remove all directories, subdirectories and files created or added during the installation. NOTE: if c:\windows\system32\putty.exe exists prior to installation, it will be removed during the uninstall. - restore the local hosts file to its state prior to DVD installation. - NOTE: After running this option the windows desktop may need to be refreshed to reflect the removal of the VistA related icons - NOTE: c:\temp\uva_uninstall.bat can be run manually to uninstall Cache' and VistA if the VistA DVD is unavailable. 3. General users, passwords and access: A. B. User classes (USR) User Classes have been primarily preconfigured as such: NURSE: Clinical Coordinator, Nurse, Provider CLERK: Clinical Coordinator DOCTOR: Provider, Clinical Coordinator, Interdisciplinary User PHARMACIST: Clinical Coordinator, Provider CLINICAL COORDINATOR: Clinical Coordinator, Provider

11 C. Electronic Signature Codes Multiple incremented versions of these codes are preconfigured from 1 through 40. NOTE: Electronic signature codes must be ALL UPPERCASE. ( ie. user=doctor2, e-sig=doctor2) D. The following two users will allow access to Cache' terminal and the System Management Portal: - username=admin password=uvapwd - username=uvaadmin password=uvapwd General Intersystems Cache' Information: 1. Once installed, the Cache' management cube will appear on the Windows taskbar. Right click the cube to access the available Cache' control options.
