nfrastructure jurisdiction (337 km) HGHWAY 1 KAMLOOPS TO ALBERTA FOUR-LANNG PROGRAM The West project is a $162.7-million partnership between the Province of B.C. and the Government of Canada to upgrade six kilometres of the Trans-Canada Highway through the west side of the City of and the Neskonlith and Adams Lake ndian Reserves. The project will improve the safety and reliability of one of our most important commercial trade and tourist routes. Work will involve: four laning the highway with a better alignment building a new four-lane bridge over the Salmon River improving access with an interchange, intersection upgrades and new frontage roads improving safety with a pedestrian/cyclist trail network and wider shoulders installing median barrier along the highway

nfrastructure jurisdiction (337 km) HGHWAY 1 KAMLOOPS TO ALBERTA FOUR-LANNG PROGRAM n June 2015, the ministry held an open house to introduce the West project. Since then, the ministry has moved forward with design work based on public feedback and continuing consultation with the City of, First Nations, local businesses and property owners. The ministry began discussions with potentially affected property owners early in the project and has acquired most of the approximately 50 properties that are impacted. Acquisition of ndian Reserve #3 and ndian Reserve #7 lands is also required. n September 2016, the federal government announced its contribution of up to $48.5 million toward the project. Site clearing and building demolitions have taken place in preparation for construction. The first tender will involve placing preload materials to compress soft soils and relocating utilities from 1st Avenue SW to 30th Street SW. The ministry anticipates tendering this preload work this winter for construction in spring 2018.

nfrastructure jurisdiction (337 km) HGHWAY 1 KAMLOOPS TO ALBERTA FOUR-LANNG PROGRAM Rehabilitating the Salmon River Bridge Subject to an agreement with the City of, the old section of the Trans-Canada Highway including the existing Salmon River Bridge will become a municipal frontage road. The Salmon River Bridge was built in 1946 and widened in 1964. A 2015 independent engineering assessment determined that the bridge is in good condition and with some rehabilitation will provide another 20 to 25 years of service before further rehabilitation or replacement is needed. The ministry will carry out and pay for the bridge rehabilitation before the municipality takes over responsibility. The work is valued at up to $500,000 and would include: Repairing the abutment deck joints Repairing the concrete deck and curb Cleaning and re-coating steel stringers Repairing the stream bank and installing rip rap to protect against erosion
nfrastructure jurisdiction (337 km) HGHWAY 1 KAMLOOPS TO ALBERTA FOUR-LANNG PROGRAM Mitigating Flood Risk ncreased Culvert, Storm Drain, and Ditch Capacity New Four Lane Bridge Frontage Road Lowered to Reduce Flood Risk Existing Salmon River Bridge ncreased Culvert and Ditch Capacity Salmon River Road 10 Ave SW The new highway and frontage roads are designed to help protect the environment, infrastructure and neighbouring properties from floods and erosion. During a 200-year flood event: the new bridge will clear span the Salmon River and provide two metres of clearance, allowing debris to pass Shuswap Lake backs up the Salmon River to the existing TCH bridge girder, but the water velocity is low and not a significant risk to the bridge or roadway passage of flood water in the existing bridge area will be improved by lowering the frontage road elevation east of the bridge increased culvert, storm drain and ditch capacity will improve drainage on nearby roads and reduce flooding risk
