Correction notes Nov. 07, 2013 p. 5 - changed the B axis unit value to 45.1389 from 40.0000. Changed by Randy per Frank s request. Jan. 22, 2018 p. 5 - changed the B axis unit value and corresponding picture to 67.7083 from 45.1389. Changed by Ryan P. 45.1389 is for indexers using a 10:1 gear box we now ship with a 15:1.

Page -- 1 Installing the 6 indexer on PRS Alpha Tools Before you start NOTE: If you have purchased this indexer along with your machine, we have installed the driver and completed all wiring for you. Simply connect the motor cable to the driver and make the necessary changes to your software settings (page 5). RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK: Unplug the power to your ShopBot before you start. Failure to do this can result in electric shock and/or damage to your ShopBot. Tools you ll need:

Page -- 2 Standard sized flat-head screwdriver Small flat-head screwdriver suitable for electronics Small Phillips-head screwdriver suitable for electronics 1/2 wrench or socket (or adjustable wrench) 7/16 wrench or socket (or adjustable wrench) 7mm wrench or socket (or adjustable wrench) Route the cable into the box Open the Roxtec cord fixture on the side of your control box. Depending on the age and model of your Shopbot, the fixture is closed either with a ½ bolt (shown in the photo), or a plastic clamp. If your box has a bolt closure, loosen it several turns from the inside of the box. If your box has the plastic clamp, you need to loosen it from the outside of the box. Insert a screwdriver underneath it and pry upwards. Now, gently pull upwards on the wires to loosen the rubber pieces that hold the cables in place. Route the indexer cable through any available opening. Pull it into the box so that it can reach the driver with a little slack left over, then tighten the fixture back down onto the cables. Hook up the power/ground wires to the driver

Page -- 3 Before you mount the driver in the control box, you ll want to hook up the power wires. Loosen the 3 screws on the face of the driver as shown in the photo. Slip the spade connector under the screw head and tighten it down. Make sure that you install the wires in order as shown in the photo: (from top to bottom) Red white green. Mount the driver and connect the remaining wires Notice the way that the other drivers are mounted into the box. The new driver is going to mount to the left of the others. Using a 7/16 socket or adjustable wrench, remove the nuts from one set of screw posts. Fit the holes in the driver mounting plate onto the posts, then replace the nuts. The white and red power wires are going to connect to the electrical filter in the upper right hand corner of the box. You may have to trim back a few of the wire ties to gain access to the nuts that hold the wire connectors in place.

Page -- 4 Remove the nut from each screw post on the bottom of the filter. Match the new wires to the existing ones: red goes with red, white goes with white. Put the open ring of the wire connector onto the screw post and tighten the nut. Make sure that the wires are tight and secure. Make ground connection

Page -- 5 Now take the bare end of the ground wire (green), and connect it to any available spot on the ground bus. Loosen one of the screws until you can fit the wire into the gap, then tighten the screw back down. Check to be sure that the screw is clamping onto bare wire, not the plastic coating. Hook up remaining cables If it is not already connected, plug the ribbon cable into the driver and tighten the screws that hold it down. The other end of this cable goes onto the board on channel 5 (B axis), which is the farthest set of pins to the left. You ll notice a small plastic jumper that sits over one pair of pins be sure to remove this before attempting to plug in the cable. Place this jumper onto any pair of pins on channel 4 (A axis). You may need these jumpers for testing if you ever run into technical issues. Putting them on the unused position 4 is a safe place to store them for later. With the jumper out of the way, carefully align the connector onto the pins and press it down until it is fully seated against the board. To complete the wiring, connect the accessory cable (the black or gray wire with the yellow band that you routed through the Roxtec fixture earlier) to the white plug on the face of the driver. You are now finished with the wiring portion of the installation. Making changes to your ShopBot software

Page -- 6 There are just a couple of changes you need to make to your software settings before you are ready to use the indexer. Start by opening the control software and type a VD command into the yellow command box (or click to Values > Display Values on the top menu bar.) A yellow fill-in sheet will appear, as shown in the picture below. Change Display units B axis to degrees, and change Number of Axes to 5. Then click OK at the bottom of this sheet to save your changes. Then type a VU command or click to Values > Unit values. Change the B Axis Unit Value to 67.7083 (go to four decimal places). Do not make changes to any of the other values. Then click OK to save these changes. Testing the indexer WARNING: Avoid rotating the motor with your hand when the power is off. Doing so can generate an electric charge which may damage the driver and/or control board. Turn your Shopbot back on and switch your software to move/cut mode if you have not already done so. You can move the indexer just like any other axis by giving it a move command. Type an MB command (for Move B Axis) into the command box, followed by a degree value. Degrees are absolute, meaning that they are all referenced from zero. For example, if the screen reads that you are currently at 10 degrees and you command the software to move to 15 degrees (type command MB 15), your total distance of travel will be 5 degrees. Zeroing the tool before a cut

Page -- 7 Zeroing in B: If you are turning the stock to a finished shape, generally you won t need to zero the B axis before cutting. However, if you are using it to make cuts in a very specific location, rotate the axis using move commands until the desired face or point is pointing straight up (perpendicular to the table surface), then type a ZB command for Zero B Axis. Zeroing in XY: As with any other cut file, you will need to zero the XY axis before beginning. You can use the C3 command to run the XY homing routine, and/or move the tool to the desired start location on the table and type a Z2 command to zero it in that location. Zeroing in Z: You have the option of either zeroing to the center point, or the top of the material (outer diameter). Whichever location you choose, make sure that your chosen z- zero setting in the software matches what you do at the machine. If you zero to the center point, you will need to move the Z axis to that point using the keypad. First use the arrow keys to get it close, then click the button marked Fixed within the keypad move window. This will allow you to move the axis in very small increments. Enter a small value (such as.05) and continue to move the Z axis down until the bottom of the bit is on the same level as the centerpoint. Then exit the keypad and type a ZZ command to zero the Z axis in that location. If you prefer to zero to the top of the material, you can use the z-zero plate as usual.
