Zimbra Collaboration Suite Virtual Appliance VMware Installation Network Edition 4.5 Beta 2 The Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) virtual appliance includes the rpath Linux operating system and the ZCS software. This guide describes how to download and install the ZCS virtual appliance in the VMware virtual machine environment. You install the operating system software and the ZCS software and then configure the software from the rpath Appliance Agent configuration wizard. To see what changes have been made for ZCS 4.5, read the latest Release Notes on the Zimbra website, http://www.zimbra.com/products/ documentation.html. Instructions for upgrading from 4.5 Beta1 are on page 15. Note: This 4.5 Beta release should not be run in production environments. Running ZCS 4.5 Beta in production environments may cause problems of any magnitude, including data loss or corruption. Product Overview The Zimbra Collaboration Suite is designed to be the only application suite installed on the server and includes the Zimbra MTA, the Zimbra LDAP server, and the Zimbra mailbox server, along with other third party and open source software. The versions installed have been tested and configured to work with the Zimbra software. All ZCS components are installed on one server and usually require no additional manual configuration. After you configure the operating system network information and ZCS, you will be able to log on to the Zimbra administration console to manage the domain and provision accounts. To manage the rpath Linux operating system you will use the rpath Appliance Agent Web-based user interface. Installation Prerequisites In order to successfully install and run the Zimbra Collaboration Suite, ensure your system meets the requirements described in this section. The trial license allows you to create up to 50 users. It expires in 60 days. Network Edition 4.5 Beta 2 July 2007 3

Zimbra Collaboration Suite Regular. You must purchase the Zimbra regular license. This license is valid for a specific Zimbra Collaboration Suite system and is encrypted with the number of Zimbra accounts (seats) you have purchased, the effective date, and expiration date of the regular license. Go to Zimbra s Website to obtain a trial license from the Network Downloads area. Contact Zimbra sales to purchase a regular license, by emailing sales@zimbra.com or calling 1-650-212-7767, extension 100. The regular license can only be installed on the ZCS system for which it is purchased. Only one Zimbra license is required for your Zimbra Collaboration Suite environment. Note: Current license information, including the number of accounts purchased, the number of accounts used, and the expiration date can be viewed from the ZCS administration console Global Settings>License tab. Basic Operating System Configuration The ZCS appliance download file include the latest version of the rpath Linux operating system. rpath Linux is a robust and flexible Linux operating system that was tailored to the ZCS requirements. The ZCS virtual appliance installs and configures only the components necessary for ZCS. You do not need to make any changes to the operating system. Note: To learn more about the rpath Linux go to their website at www.rpath.com. You will only need to configure the following networking parameters: Host Name. This is the fully qualified hostname of the Zimbra server. (mailhost.example.com). DNS Search Domain. This is the local domain. DNS Server(s). This is the domain name server for host name lookups. Make sure that the MX record is configured correctly as this information is not verified during ZCS installation. Choose DHCP or manually set the static IP address, Netmask, and Gateway address of the device. About Configuring DNS In order to send and receive email, the Zimbra MTA must be configured in DNS with both A and MX records. For sending mail, the MTA uses DNS to resolve hostnames and email-routing information. To receive mail the MX record must be configured correctly to route the message to the mail server. You must configure a relay host if you do not enable DNS. After ZCS is installed, go to the Global Settings>MTA tab on the administration console 4 July 2007 Network Edition 4.5 Beta 2

ZCS Software Appliance Install for VMware and uncheck Enable DNS lookups. Enter the relay MTA address to use for external delivery. Note: Even if a relay host is configured, an MX record is still required if the ZCS server is going to receive email from the Internet. Downloading the ZCS Virtual Appliance image For the latest ZCS virtual appliance download, go to www.zimbra.com/ downloads. The download for the VMware installation consists of a zip file with the virtual disk file (.vmdk) and an accompanying configuration file (.vmx). ZCS Configuration Overview You can configure the following from the rpath Appliance Agent. In most cases, the default configuration requires no additional modifications. You will need to create the Zimbra admin password and add your Zimbra license file. Create a mail domain. One domain is created during the installation and additional domains can be created from the Zimbra administration console. The Mail Domain field displays the default domain. Create the admin user and set the password. The ZCS administrator account is created during install. You must set the admin account password. The password is case sensitive and must be a minimum of six characters. Add the ZCS License key file. Before you begin the ZCS appliance configuration, the ZCS license key file must be saved in a directory that you can access during the installation. Optional Configuration Steps Making changes to the following sections are not required as these default dependencies are configured to work correctly for this version of ZCS. Advanced Ports. The default port configurations are listed. No changes should be required. Advanced System Accounts. The three global accounts that are created by default are listed. The accounts are automatically given randomly selected names. You cannot see the randomly selected name from the rpath appliance, but you can change the names if you wish. Global Documents Account. This account is necessary for the ZCS Documents application. The account includes the Notebook and Template folders. The template notebook contains the Documents templates that defines how pages within Documents are displayed. Ham Training Account. This account receives mail notification about mail that was marked as junk but should not have been. Network Edition 4.5 Beta 2 July 2007 5

Zimbra Collaboration Suite Spam Training Account. This account receives mail notification about mail that was not marked as junk but should have been. These two training accounts are automatically configured to work with the spam training filter. Installing and Configuring the ZCS Virtual Appliance When you run the ZCS virtual appliance, the files are copied to the server and installed, and the server is rebooted automatically. You run the rpath configuration wizard to set up the network and the ZCS. Preparing the Server Install 1. Unzip the ZCS appliance download file into an empty directory. Two files are extracted, a zimbra.vmdk file and a zimbra.vmx file. The.vmx file is the VMware configuration file. 2. Open the VMware Player and go to the ZCS appliance directory. Click the.vmx file to load the configuration file. The VMware boot screen displays. The rpath operating system software and the ZCS software are installed. Installing the software is completely automatic. When the install is complete, the server automatically starts and is rebooted. During this time, do not make any changes. 3. When the server has rebooted, the monitor displays the following text. 6 July 2007 Network Edition 4.5 Beta 2

ZCS Software Appliance Install for VMware Powered by rpath Linux To administer this appliance, please use a web browser from another system to navigate to https://xx.xx.xx.xx:8003/ Note this email address. You will need this https address for the following steps. Note: If the URL information is missing, the IP address may not have been obtained. To fix this problem, configure networking with vmnetcfgx or ensure that DHCP services are available on your network. The reason this may happen is because the VMware application attempted to bridge through an adapter that is not functioning. Exclude that adapter using vmnetcfg. Configuring the software using rpath Appliance Agent You are now ready to configure the system using the rpath Appliance Agent Configuration Wizard. This wizard is used to define the initial configuration parameters for networking and for ZCS. Note: The rpath Appliance Agent Help is specific to rpath details.
