KbdKaz 500 v.1.9 manual 2 / 20 1. Description KbdKaz 500 keyboard layout lets you enter over 600 additional letters and symbols, which are inaccesible in normal keyboard layouts. The idea is to use standard keyboard with US layout labels. The program is simply a dll file, analogous to existing keyboard layouts in Windows. So you can change keyboard layouts and languages in the same way, you are used to, using standard system tools. The dll file name contains the layout symbol e.g. kbduskaz.dll, kbddekaz.dll and so on. This method of changing keyboard layout is safe, because there are no additional programs, keyboard filters, network access to web pages, etc. For every Windows version there is a special dll file, so the installer must always be used. The installer supports Windows 2000 and all later Windows versions, 32 and 64 bit. During installation, you can choose one of layouts: QWERTY, QWERTZ or AZERTY You can also choose decimal symbol on the numeric keypad - comma or dot. Several keyboard buttons can be changed or disabled: Left/Right Shift Applications key Scroll Lock Left/Right Control key 102 Num Lock Left/Right Alt Tab Left/Right Windows Caps Lock These settings are valid only for currently selected KbdKaz 500 keyboard. To enter additional characters, we use two basic methods: key (right Alt). Instead of right Alt, one can use left Alt + Ctrl combination, which is a standard method in Windows. To enter a character, you must press and other key simultaneously. The idea of dead keys, used in many Windows keyboard layouts. To enter accented character or symbol, you should first press a key (or key combination), then release the buttons and press other button. When no character is assigned for dead key combination, you get two characters entered.. E.g. dead key and q, results q. But and a, gives ā. Standard characters, which are painted on the keys, are entered as usual, with the only exception of ` character. If you want to enter (`) character, press (`) and then space key. Additionally, for Alt functionality use only left Alt key. How to remember location and key combinations for 600 additional characters? To enter a character or symbol, you have to press and release a deadkey and then another key. Which deadkey and which key? 1. Most symbols are available at (`) deadkey. Some symbols are also at (+`) and (+/) deadkeys, and some frequently used symbols are accesible with. To find a key, you need to remember a few easy rules: Symbol meaning similarity Symbol view similarity English name Nearness of other known key Other associations 2. To enter accented letters, you have to find only an accent deadkey. Some accent symbols exists on the physical keyboard: ` ~ ^ 0 - / : ' ",. Other accents are logically placed around these known accent keys.

KbdKaz 500 v.1.9 manual 3 / 20 3. Look at the layout diagrams, read character remember tables below at least once. This will give you an idea of the placement philosophy. KbdKaz 500 exists in many language versions, which differ only in key combination for letters. This can speed-up entering national characters. The actual list of language versions is available at http://www.omega-com.pl/kbdkaz.htm. Remember that some characters can be absent in the font you use, and a text editor will improperly display the character. In this case you need to change the font. This document was written using DejaVu Serif font. The symbols available in KbdKaz 500 exist in many popular fonts. Full set of characters is available only for Unicode or UTF-8 encoding. If you use other encoding style, e.g. CP1252 (Western), the number of available characters significantly decline. Some key combinations may interfere with applications shortcut keys. You may need to customise shortcut keys in these applications. 2. ( + key) combination schema and description. To enter a character, press simultaneously and the appropriate key. Schema description: Symbols entered with are marked green. Accent symbols entered with dead keys are marked red. Dead keys activated by are marked with yellow background. The symbols on the top of the key are entered with Shift key, symbols on the bottom of the key are entered without Shift. Black characters are entered normally as usual. For example the umlaut character alone ( ) can be obtained by pressing and releasing +(;) and than space.
