VPN Client Configuration Guide For Windows Vista, 7 and Mac (up to version 10.11) Operating Systems Contents VPN Access... 1 VPN Permission Request... 1 VPN Client Installation & Activation... 1 Mapping a Drive... 9 VPN Access VPN access allows a person, connected to the internet but outside of an AgriLife Research or Extension facility, to remote to the facility s network. Once VPN connection is established the facility s file server and devices (printers, etc.) are available with the same permissions as if the computer is connected directly to the facility network. VPN access requires specialized permissions added to an AGNET account and the installation of VPN client software. VPN Permissions Request Submit a ticket to FirstCall, via first-call@tamu.edu, requesting VPN access to the specific facility. Once the ticket is completed VPN service for the specified facility will be authorized on your Agnet account and the download/installation of the VPN client can proceed. Additionally, an IP address, Fileserver name and Center name will be provided in the ticket. Make note of this information as it will be needed in the following steps. NOTE: VPN authorization only authorizes access to the specified facility. If access to additional locations is needed a request specifying these location(s) will be needed to have the authorization added to your Agnet account. VPN Client Installation & Activation Complete the following step by step procedure to install and activate the VPN client. NOTE: VPN permissions must already have been added to your Agnet account prior to proceeding beyond step 1. The software cannot be downloaded without these permissions in place. 1

1. If not already done submit a FirstCall ticket (first-call@tamu.edu) requesting VPN access to the specific facility. Once the ticket is verified as complete proceed to the next step 2. The FirstCall ticket, confirming VPN permissions have been added to your account, will contain an IP address, fileserver name and center name. Locate this information for use in future steps. 3. Enter the following address into a web browser (Firefox, Chrome, etc.) to access the VPN client download page https://[[ip address]] (replace [[IP address]] with the IP Address retrieved in step 2) 4. Enter your AGNET credentials for the Name (firstname.lastname) and Password Click Login 5. Download the VPN client software by selecting the link identifying your computer s operating system 6. Begin the VPN client software installation software by clicking on the install package. 2

7. Complete the software installation by proceeding as directed through the setup windows. To select the default parameters (recommended) click Next for each window and then Close at the end of the installation. 8. Once the installation is completed reboot the computer 9. Startup the VPN client by navigating (under Windows Start Menu) to the Global Protect Option under Palo Alto Networks >> Global Protect folders 3

10. Select the Settings tab and enter the following information Username: firstname.lastname Password: AGNET email password Portal: [[IP address]] (replace [[IP address]] with the IP Address retrieved in step 2) Click Apply 11. Select Show Certificate on the Server Certificate Error window that opens. 4

12. Select Install Certificate on the Certificate window. 13. Select Next on the Certificate Import Wizard window 5

14. Select Place all certificates in the following store Click Browse 15. Select Trusted Root Certification Authorities from the list Click OK 6

16. Click Next on the Certificate Import Wizard window and then Click Finish on the follow on screen 17. On the Security Warning window Click Yes 18. Successful certificate import is noted Click OK 19. Select OK on the Certificate window 20. Select Continue on the Server Certificate Error window 7

21. The VPN client will immediately attempt to connect to the workplace and signify success with a status of connected 22. The VPN connection can be disconnected by navigating to hidden icons, right clicking on the Global Protect icon and selecting the Disconnect option 8

23. The connection can be re-established by again navigating to hidden icons, right click on the Global Protect icon and selecting the Connect option Mapping a Drive If the computer being used to VPN into a location is joined to the AGNET domain then the S and W drives will be mapped automatically. Otherwise, use the following addresses to connect to network drives once the VPN connection is in place. NOTE: Replace all bracketed text with the information retrieved in step 2. Replace firstname.lastname with your first and last name. Example P drive - \\afs32.agnet.tamu.edu\bexar\protect\user\fred.flinstone - P drive - \\[[fileserver name]]\[[center name]]\protect\user\firstname.lastname - W drive - \\[[fileserver name]]\[[center name]]\protect\group - S drive \\[[fileserver name]]\[[center name]]\protect\share Document Update History Tom Lyster 3/4/2016 Updated graphics to reflect version 3.0.0 of client 9
