[solved] Choppy playback with some source videos and edits in lightworks 12.x Posted by maxrp - 23 Nov 2014 23:46 Howdy, I've been tracking the 12.x series as it's been released but have consistently run into performance issues with playback of some source materials and edits based upon them. System stats are up-to-date in my signature, using kernels from the 3.14.x line (LTS on my distro) and 3.17.x seems not to affect Lightworks performance for me in either 11.5.2 or 12.0.2.b. Lightworks/Logs directory compressed and attached. Steps to reproduce: 1. Use any version of Lightworks 12, up to and including 12.0.2.b 2. Import an mp4 a bit more than 500MiB from youtube 3. Play the clip, and watch as it stutters, experience some audio echoing and eventually audio and video desynchronize. Alternatively: 1. Use Lightworks 11.5.2 2. Import an mp4 a bit more than 500MiB from youtube 3. Edit the clip as desired, observing nice smooth playback etc. 4. Export the project to a Lightworks archive. 5. Upgrade 11.5.2 to 12.0.2.b 6. Import project archive into Lightworks 12.0.2.b 7. Play a clip or edit and watch as it stutters, experience some audio echoing and eventually audio and video desynchronize. mediainfo output for one such video: 1 / 8

Inspired by this thread: " 12.0.1 -> 12.0.2.c GPU benchmarks (ATI Radeon HD 6570 GPU) &quo t; I figured I'd take a look at the built in benchmarks for the three kernels and lightworks versions I have on my system right now, here are the results: Lightworks 11.5.2 3.10.61 host to gpu: 64.56, gpu to host: 174.07, shader: 7713.98, playback: 123.16, render: 51.23 3.14.25 host to gpu: 148.07, gpu to host: 156.79, shader: 7577.9, playback: 114.66, render: 50.17 3.17.4 host to gpu: 73.14, gpu to host: 174.05, shader: 3239.29, playback: 144.63, render: 57.19 Lightworks 12.0.1 3.10.61 host to gpu: 150.51, gpu to host: 159.75, shader: 7559.23, playback: 115.98, render: 49.43 3.14.25 host to gpu: 143.54, gpu to host: 159.21, shader: 6673.96, playback: 115.33, render: 52.08 3.17.4 host to gpu: 142.07, gpu to host: 173.8, shader: 5898.24, playback: 121.1, render: 51 Lightworks 12.0.2.B 3.10.61 host to gpu: 147.22, gpu to host: 161.81, shader: 7062.98, playback: 120.49, render: 49.85 3.14.25 host to gpu: 37.97, gpu to host: 162.05, shader: 6685.19, playback: 123.29, render: 52.87 3.17.4 host to gpu: 40.37, gpu to host: 175.71, shader: 7738.24, playback: 139.51, render: 58.43 Lightworks 12.0.2.C 3.10.61 host to gpu: 145.35, gpu to host: 162.84, shader: 5354.31, playback: 127.19, render: 50.68 3.14.25 host to gpu: 136.52, gpu to host: 158.97, shader: 6857.11, playback: 113.65, render: 49.08 3.17.4 host to gpu: 42, gpu to host: 171.39, shader: 6338.59, playback: 135.14, render: 55.7 Sadly, these are not quite as good as Wozza's benchmarks! All tests were performed on the same system after a fresh boot while otherwise idle using the 343.22 nvidia-uvm kernel module. Let me know if any other details or troubleshooting steps would be useful. ============================================================================ Re: Choppy playback with some source videos and edits in lightworks 12.x (works in 11.5.2) Posted by maxrp - 28 Dec 2014 19:44 This issue persists with the same files cited in my initial post/logs in the latest stable 12.0.2 release under 3.18.1, nvidia driver 343.36. Benchmarks: host to gpu: 140.13, gpu to host: 158.03, shader: 6553.94, playback: 115.46, render: 44.28 7 / 8
