QUICK USER GUIDE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES SWINWIFI INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR WINDOWS XP BEFORE INSTALLATION: 1. Download Swinwifi installer to your desktop. You may download it from http://www.swinburne.edu.my/current_students.php. in Swinwifi Installation Guide section. 2. Please make sure that you have a valid account. To verify this, access to http://blackboard.swinburne.edu.my/. Enter details whereby the username is your studentid, password is your birth date in the format yymmdd if you did not change your password. Note: If you can t access to your Blackboard successfully, then you have to come to ITS department to request a reset of your Blackboard account. INSTALLATION: This step to be performed ONLY ONCE when first installing Swinwifi application to your machine. 1. Double click SecureW2.exe file icon from desktop. 2. Select Language as English, then click OK. Click OK Page 1 of 8
3. On the Welcome screen, select Next. Click Next > 4. On the License Agreement screen, select I Agree. Click I Agree 5. Choose Components screen, select Install. Click Install Page 2 of 8
6. From the Setup Status screen, the setup will continue automatically. 7. When prompted for Account information, the username is your studentid, the password is your Blackboard account password. For Domain leave it blank Key in studentid and password. Then click OK. Domain, leave it Blank. 8. If reboot is required. Select reboot now, then click Finish. SETTING UP SWINWIFI WIRELESS: Before connecting to Swinwifi, Please make sure Swinwifi only requires Microsoft Windows as default wireless controller. To verify, Windows as default wireless controller, go to Control Panel -> Network Connection -> Wireless Network Connection. Click View Wireless Connection, you should be able to see the detected wireless network. If not, please refer to FAQ1 to configure Windows as the default wireless connection controller. 1. After the computer has restarted and is back to the Desktop screen. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connection -> Wireless Network Connection. You should be able to see all detected wireless network. Right click Swinwifi and select Properties. 2. Select Swinwifi and click Change advanced settings. Click Change Advanced Settings Page 3 of 8
3. When popup windows Wireless Network Connection Properties appears, select Wireless Network tab. 4. In preferred networks box, select Swinwifi, then click Properties. In popup Swinwifi properties windows, Select WPA in network authentication, and select TKIP in data encryption. Select Swinwifi Click Properties 5. Click Authentication tab, uncheck Authentication as computer when computer information is available and Authentication as guest when user or computer information is unavailable. 6. Select SecureW2 EAP-TTLS and click properties. Select WPA in network authentication, and select TKIP in data encryption Unchecked Click Properties Page 4 of 8
7. When popup SecureW2 configuration windows appears, Change the profile to swinwifi-my. 8. Click Configure, then select User account tab. Uncheck Prompt user for credentials. Change profile to swinwifi-my Uncheck Prompt user for credentials Click Configure 9. Back to SecureW2 configuration windows, click OK. 10. Back to Wireless Network Connection properties windows, click View Wireless Networks, double click swinwifi network to connect. Double click Swinwifi network Page 5 of 8
SETTING PROXY FOR BROWSER (INTERNET EXPLORER) 1. Open Internet Explorer. 2. Go to Tools -> Internet Option -> Connection -> LAN Settings. 3. Check the box for Use automatic configuration script. 4. Type this address (http://wwwproxy.swinburne.edu.my/proxy.pac) into the empty box. 5. Click Ok to close the settings. SETTING PROXY FOR BROWSER (MOZILLA) 1. Open Mozilla. 2. Go to Tools -> Option > Advanced -> Network -> Settings 3. Click bullet Automatic proxy configuration URL: 4. Type the address (http://wwwproxy.swinburne.edu.my/proxy.pac) into the empty box. 5. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: 1. I want to make Windows Wireless Controller to configure wireless connection. How do I do that? For Windows XP, go to Control Panel -> Network Connection -> Wireless Network Connection. Click View Wireless Connection. Click Change advanced settings, Click the Wireless Network tab, and then select the check box labeled Use Windows configure my wireless network settings. For Windows Vista, no worries about this, Windows Vista is always being the default wireless connection controller even if another wireless utility is active. 3. I have received limited connectivity error(s). This is because you have a manual IP setting. You should remove the manual IP setting and use the DHCP setting. To do this, go to Control Panel -> Network Connection -> Wireless Network Connection. Click Properties in the Wireless Network Connection Properties windows, in the general tab, in This connection uses the following items: scroll down to the bottom and select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Select Properties, In Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties, the select obtain an IP address automatically. Also select obtain DNS server address automatically. Then click OK to close all windows boxes. 2. After I double click at Swinwifi. It is not connected or requires validating identity and I only see a big X instead. This is always happens in Windows Vista so you need to make sure you have put the wireless network key combination as WPA2 and AES OR WPA and TKIP. 4. I click SecureW2 properties, but i can't see any pop up SecureW2 configuration windows. You need to install Microsoft.NET Framework 3.0 Redistributable Package from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=10cc340b-f857-4a14-83f5-25634c3bf043&displaylang=en Page 7 of 8
5. I can t install the Swinwifi program, I have received an error message with Failed setting SSID configuration (25). You have to make sure you are using windows wireless controller. To make sure this, go to Control Panel -> Network Connection -> Wireless Network Connection. Click View Wireless Connection and you should see following message appear: Windows cannot configure the wireless connection. If you have enabled another program to configure this wireless connection, use that software. If you want to use Windows configure this wireless connection, Click Change advanced settings, Click the Wireless Network tab, and then select the check box labeled Use Windows configure my wireless network settings.
