The role of staff is to proactively support both generic and specific IT requirements for teaching and research in academic departments and/or IT business needs of support and administrative departments. They proactively liaise with end-users, staff and other stakeholders in terms of supporting these requirements and to deliver improved effectiveness and efficiency through the use of IT across the University. is organised into three main service teams: User Services, Technical Services and Corporate Services. IT Systems Engineers typically perform duties within the Technical Services team but may be attached to another service team. The IT infrastructure landscape that falls under the responsibility of Technical Services includes the data (wired and wireless) and voice network, firewalls, data centres, NOC, managed desktop/laptop infrastructure, central services (such as email, Web CMS, VLE, DNS and storage) which operate over a mix of Unix and Windows server environments, hosted servers and server virtualisation. Subteams within Technical Services specialise in Networking Infrastructure, Windows System Administration or Unix System Administration.
