Bad audi begins with lw bandwidth. Yu can change the cdecs n the Max gateway t change the frames per packet setting. In rder t d this, yu will need t telnet int yur Max gateway and fllw the directins in the Cmmand Reference Guide n changing the Frames Per Packet. Q. When I dial the extensin that I ruted t prt 1, it rings n prt 2, and when I dial the extensin ruted t prt 2, it rings n prt 3. What is wrng? A. In the Ruting Table Cnfiguratin page, make sure yu ruted each extensin t the lgical prt number f the desired prt, nt the labeled r physical prt number. Q. When I attempt t make a call, I hear a fast busy signal. What culd be wrng? A. Click n the Shw Lg Messages link t access the Current System Lg Messages page. If 00 REL DM_NOT_SPECIFIED is displayed, that wuld indicate that the drman servers culdn t be fund. Make sure that the DNS server IP parameter values are crrect s that the drman can be reached. Please be aware that special emergency and infrmatinal numbers (i.e., 411, 611, 911, 0) cannt nrmally be accessed thrugh the Max. Hwever, if yu have a Max with at least ne FXO prt, it can be cnfigured s that these calls are ruted thrugh the PSTN. Q. When I attempt t make a call frm either an FXS r FXO prt, I immediately get discnnected. What shuld I d? A. Use the ping cmmand t determine that the Max still has a live cnnectin t the LAN. Make sure that an accunt number with funds available has been entered fr the prt frm which yu are calling. Q. When I pick up the phne t call frm my Max FXO unit, I hear a buzzing sund like a mtr instead f a dial tne. What culd be the prblem? A. It sunds as if yur Max unit is nt prperly grunded. Simply attach a metal wire frm the grunding screw n the Max t a grunding platfrm. Q. My Max 8/16 is behind a firewall, and I m having truble placing Max-t-Max calls frm my bx. Why? A. Yu must make sure yur firewall parameters are set crrectly n yur Max 8/16, as well as yur firewall, befre calls can be attempted. Review Sectin 4.2, Cnfiguring Firewalls, in the Max 8/16 and T1/E1 User s Guide, Versin 1.4.0. Q. Hw can I set a lnger pause time fr placing a call? A. The default pause time is 3 secnds. If yu wuld like t set a lnger pause time between dialing a number and placing the call, yu will need t telnet int yur Max gateway and cnfigure the FXS, FXO, r IVR prt t a lnger secnd value. Fllw the instructins in Sectin 10.5, Change FXS Parameters, in the Cmmand Reference Guide fr mre infrmatin. Cmpatibility Q. Can I use my Net2Phne device with a prxy server? A. N. Net2Phne devices will nt wrk behind a prxy server. Q. Will the Max wrk with LCR (Least Cst Ruting) systems? A. FXS and T1/E1 versins f the Max will wrk in cnjunctin with PBXs that feature least cst ruting. Q. Which Max units can be cnnected t a PBX and hw is this dne? A. All f the Max units can be cnnected t a PBX, althugh PBXs have different cnnectivity requirements. Fr example, the Max T1/E1 wuld be used t cnnect t a digital PBX. Any Max featuring FXO prts (Max 8 Plus r Max 8/16) culd cnnect t an analg line card while FXS units (Max 4, Max 8, Max 8 Plus, r Max 8/16) culd cnnect t an analg trunk card. Cnfiguratin Q. During setup, hw d I enter the perids in my IP address and netmask thrugh an analg phne? A. Simply use the * key n the phne t enter a perid. Q. When I enter a static IP address int the Max and restart the unit, the static IP address that I entered is nt saved. What shuld I check? A. Make sure the DHCP is set t OFF n the Max. If yu entered the IP address thrugh an analg phne, make sure yu press the # key befre hanging up. Q. When I attempt t access the Max Web Manager, I am prmpted fr a user name and passwrd. But when I enter them and press OK, the passwrd page reappears. What am I ding wrng? A. Please make sure that bth the user name and passwrd are crrect. Nte that the user name and passwrd are case sensitive. Als, make sure there are n extra spaces included when yu enter yur user name and passwrd. Q. In the Max Web Manager Netwrk and Vice Cnfiguratin, what d I enter in the DNS server fields if this des nt apply t my situatin? A. If yu are nt utilizing DNS servers, make sure t enter 0.0.0.0 in these fields. Yu will nt be able t save this cnfiguratin if yu leave the field blank. Q. When wuld I need t use the serial prt n the back f the Max? A. If yu have a Max FXO unit, yu will need t utilize the serial prt fr the initial cnfiguratin f the LAN settings since yu cannt cnnect a standard analg phne directly t an FXO prt. Q. Hw many different accunts d I need t use ne f the Max prducts? A. Yu will need at least ne Net2Phne accunt fr each Max unit, but yu can use as many accunts as the number f prts (r virtual prts) that yu have. Q. In the Max Web Manager s Accunt Cnfiguratin page, I accidentally checked the Use accunt fr all fields bx and saved the changes. Nw, the different accunts I had fr each prt are n lnger present. Frequently Asked Questins Cnfiguratin (cnt d.) Q. My netwrk supprts DHCP, but I am having truble btaining the crrect netwrk settings fr the Max. What shuld I check? A. Please make sure that DHCP is enabled n the Max. Als check that the RJ-45 LAN cable is cnnected securely t the Max and LAN/hub/ruter. Make sure that all the netwrk prts, ruters, r hubs are live. Faxing Q. I m having truble faxing either the fax quality is pr r I m nt able t fax at all. A. If the FAX Only field (n the Accunt Cnfiguratin page f the Web Manager) fr ne r mre prts was set t Y (yes) befre upgrading t versin 1.5.10, that setting may nt have been cleared by the upgrade prcess. As a result, yu must re-lad the factry defaults and re-enter yur cnfiguratin settings. The fllwing steps walk yu thrugh this prcess: Befre re-lading the factry settings, take a snapsht f the cnfiguratin settings yu custmized by printing each cnfiguratin page in the Web Manager. Yu will need t refer t this hard cpy later, after yu have laded the default cnfiguratin and are ready t re-enter yur settings. In the Web Manager, click the Lad Default Cnfig link in the sidebar menu. Click the Lad buttn. Rebt the device. In the Web Manager, re-enter any settings that yu may have mdified frm the riginal default cnfiguratin. Use the hard cpy f yur cnfiguratin settings (frm the first step in this prcedure). NOTE: If yu are still unable t send faxes r the fax quality is pr, cntact Net2Phne Reseller Supprt. NOTE: Ideal parameters are 2% packet lss and 300 ms latency.
