DMP900 Digital Media Platform DMP900 Digital Media Platform is the next generation of intelligent headend processing equipment that can be transformed into any type of digital headend or perform all kinds of functions of existing headend. With a processing capacity of 384 TS streams (~1500 programs) at its core, this 1RU equipment comes with 6 independent module slots. With different modules, it can transform into a 40-RF channel Edge QAM, a 24 ASI I/O multiplexer, a 10-channel MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 SD/HD encoders or decoders or transcoders, a 16-frequency transmodulator (DVB S2/S/C/T to QAM), a 3 Gigabit DVB scrambler, or a 20-stream ASI/IP gateway. DMP900 shall substantially simplify the deployment of new DTV/IPTV system for cable operators, headend in-the-sky operation, IPTV operators and satellite/telecom operators in a cost-effective way. Technology Foundation DMP900 comes in a compact 1RU chassis with hot-swappable and redundant power supply. Different from traditional modular headend whose chassis only provides power, cooling and housing to modules without data connection, DMP900 centralizes the processing function. This substantially improves the equipment efficiency and reliability, similar to a structure of a computer server. This unit can be configured to handle six I/O modules. Each module can be configured individually based on the applications including receiving, decoding, transmodulating, encoding, transcoding, ASI to IP conversion, scrambling, descrambling, multiplexing, and QAM/COFDM modulation. All six modules can be hot-swapped and hot-inserted to support the growing requirements of network operators. Processing Capabilities One single unit of DMP900 is capable of handling 384 TS streams or 1500 programs simultaneously. With the six hot-swappable modules, it can support up to: 20 inputs of DVB-S/S2, DVB-C or DVB-T receiving 10 SD/HD programs encoding (MPEG-2 or H.264) and transcoding (between MPEG-2 and H.264) 24 ASI ports of multiplexing 6 gigabit IP inputs/outputs 20 ASI-IP stream dual conversion 3 gigabit DVB-simulcrypt scrambling 40 channel QAM modulation

20 channel COFDM modulation 16 frequency transmodulation (DVB-S2/S/C/T to QAM) It is more capable than most of digital headend equipment in the market in one RU size. Designed for Reliability DMP900 is designed to help operators configure highly reliable network. The new structure centralizes the processing capability while using the best-in-class connectors between the main board and the swappable modules to improve the connection stability. Compared with traditional design, the DMP design greatly reduces the potential hardware failures and enhances the reliability of the equipment. It comes with two hot-swappable redundant power supply modules, enabling the equipment running 24 hours without interruption. With one stream switcher module, operators can hot-swap up to 16 streams simultaneously. Using DMP900 in the network, network operators use much less connection cables compared with traditional headend and minimize the potential signal loss or instability due to external connection failures. Less Space and Less Power Consumption Compared with traditional digital headend equipment, DMP900 can reduce the installation space needed by two thirds or more for the same application. For example, a 16 frequency transmodulating application, a customer will need 16 units of single input transmodulators or a 3RU unit of similar equipment to fulfill the needs. Alternatively, only one 1RU unit of DMP900 is needed. This greatly save space and make it easier for satellite operators to penetrate into the apartment buildings, hotel and small application market. It can also save more than 75% of power consumption for network operators compared with a traditional headend deployment. Easy to Manage DMP900 is managed via easy and intuitive network management application. This management application can support the configuration of a single unit/module or multiple units DMP, ranging from the stream/input/output setup to the processing of the scrambling, transcoding or transmodulation function. It can intelligently detect the DMP units in the network and its individual modules in the chassis. With the Ethernet interface at the front panel, engineers can easily manage the DMP in different settings and environments. For simple functions and read out, engineers can also rely on the front panel display.
