3 834 DESIO RX Individual room controllers for fan-coil systems, chilled ceilings and radiators, with MARK-compatible bus communications RXC20.1 RXC21.1 The RXC20.1 and RXC21.1 controllers are used for temperature control in individual rooms. For 2-pipe or 4-pipe fan-coil systems, with or without change-over For chilled ceilings and radiators PID control Downloadable application software MARK-compatible bus communication For integration into the DESIO INSIHT building management system Control of AC 24 V PWM 1) thermic valve actuators, 3-point AC 24 V valve and damper actuators, or electric heating coils Volt-free relay contacts for fan control Operating voltage AC 230 V 1) PWM = Pulse Width Modulation Use The RXC20.1 and RXC21.1 controllers are optimised for control of fan-coil systems, chilled ceilings and radiators in individual rooms. In conjunction with a fan-coil system, the RXC20.1 can be used for single-speed fan control and the RXC21.1 for automatic fan control of up to three speeds. The type of use is defined by downloadable application software, referred to below as 'applications'. The individual applications and their functional scope are described in the CA2A3810 application library. The controllers are delivered with a pre-loaded application or with the basic application 00020 (RXC20.1) or 00021 (RXC21.1) respectively. This basic application, which contains only I/O module functions, is then overwritten with the definitive application during the commissioning stage. The RXT10.1 commissioning and service tool is used for this purpose (see "Commissioning notes"). Siemens Building Technologies CA2N3834E / 11.1998 Landis & Staefa Division 1/12

Use as an I/O module Functions Type summary The RXC20.1 and RXC21.1 controllers can also be used as universal I/O modules in conjunction with a building management system, e.g. to register binary signals or control various equipment (ON/OFF or pulse control with AC 24 V or volt-free relay contacts). In this case, the RXC20.1 or RXC21.1 controller is loaded with the basic application 00020 or 00021 respectively. The inputs can now be read and the outputs overridden via the building management system. The functional scope of the controllers is determined by the selected application and its parameters, and by the input/output configuration. For a detailed description of functions, see the DESIO RX application library, CA2A3810. If DESIO RX is integrated into a building management system, additional functions such as time scheduling, central control of setpoints etc. are available (refer to the DESIO INSIHT documentation). The RXC20.1 and RXC21.1 controllers are distinguished by the number of outputs: Type AC 24 V triac outputs Relay outputs RXC20.1 RXC21.1 RXZ20.1 for two thermic valve actuators or one 3-point actuator for four thermic valve actuators or two 3-point actuators Accessory: terminal covers for single-speed fan control for three speed fan control Ordering When ordering, please state the quantity, product name, type code and application. If the application is not known at the time of ordering, the basic application 00020 (RXC20.1) or 00021 (RXC21.1) must be ordered. The RXZ20.1 terminal covers are supplied in packs of 10 pairs and must be ordered separately (see also "Mounting notes"). Example: 30 RXC20.1 individual room controllers with application FNC03 RXC20.1 / FNC03 30 pairs terminal covers RXZ20.1 Equipment combinations Mechanical design The QAX3... room units and Landis & Staefa field devices can be used with the RXC20.1 and RXC21.1 controllers. See the overview in the CA2S3801 range description. The RXC20.1 and RXC21.1 controllers consist of a housing base, a housing cover and the PCB with connection terminals. The controllers also have a tool socket, a service LED and a service pin. Terminal covers Terminal covers (RXZ20.1) are available as an option, to protect the connection terminals from physical contact and dirt. The terminal covers are essential if the controller is mounted outside the fan-coil unit or control panel. The service LED remains visible when the terminal covers are in place, and the service pin can be operated with a pointed implement. The cable is connected to the controller by breaking out the perforated cable entry guide. 70200 Removal of the terminal cover Label Identification number (Neuron ID) Bar code, Code 39 (Identification) Protection standard Temperature range (0... 50 C) Serial number Test date, series (Z, A, B, C...) All the other connection terminals are fixed. To avoid incorrect wiring, the terminals which can be connected to AC 230 V (supply, relay outputs), are physically separate from the other terminals. Warning The cable restraints on the controller housing must be used for the wires to terminals 19... 28 (AC 230 V). 80160 Siemens Building Technologies CA2N3834E / 11.1998 Landis & Staefa Division 3/12

Communication The RXC20.1 and RXC21.1 controllers communicate with other devices through the following interfaces: bus (terminals, ), for communication with: NIDES.RX interface (to DESIO INSIHT) Other DESIO RX controllers MARK-compatible field devices (e.g. outside temperature sensor) (terminals CP, CP+): Interface to QAX3... room units (In addition to, the bus is also looped to the tool connection socket on the room unit.) It also shows the options for connecting the RXT10.1 commissioning and service tool and the RXT20.1 service terminal. -Bus 70201 CP CP+ QAX3... RXC20.1 RXC21.1 CP CP+ Tool RXT10.1 service terminal RXT20.1 Tool RXT10.1 service terminal RXT20.1 Service LED Service pin Disposal Engineering notes The yellow service LED shows the current operating status of the controller by means of different flashing patterns (see the RXT10.1 user manual, CA2B3808) The service pin is used to identify the controller at commissioning. When the pin is pressed, the identification number of the controller is transmitted to the RXT10.1 commissioning and service tool. As an aid to environmentally responsible disposal, the larger plastic components bear a materials description in accordance with ISO/DIS 11 469. The device should not simply be disposed of with household waste. The pcb and the plastic components must be separated and sorted into the appropriate waste collection containers. Document CA2Z3802, Installation guide contains the relevant details of the bus (topology, repeaters, bus termination, etc.) and information on the type and size of the connection cables required for the supply and for field devices. The supply voltage to the controllers is AC 230 V mains voltage. The controlled devices (valves, damper actuators) are supplied directly from the controller. This means that a separate AC 24 V supply is not necessary for the RXC20.1 and RXC21.1 controllers and their field devices. CA2N3834E / 11.1998 Siemens Building Technologies 4/12 Landis & Staefa Division

AC 230 V supply cables AC 230 V volt-free relay outputs Warning AC 24 V triac outputs The sizing and fusing of the supply cables depends on the total load and the local regulations. The supply cables must be secured using the cable restraints. The volt-free relay outputs allow switching of loads up to AC 250 V, 4 A. The sizing of the cables depends on the connected load and the local regulations. The circuits must be externally fused ( 10 A), as there are no internal fuses. The wiring must be secured using the cable restraints on the housing. Parallel operation of fans is not permitted! The simultaneous load at outputs... Y4 must not exceed 9.5 VA. Example: (cooling) 2 STE72 thermic valve actuators 6 W Y2 (heating) 2 STE72 thermic valve actuators 6 W Y3, Y4 (outside air) 3-point damper actuator 3.5 VA 3.5 VA The maximum load for the heating and cooling sequence is 9.5 VA in each case. This is permissible because the two sequences are never active at the same time. Mounting notes The controllers can be mounted in any orientation using the following fixing options: 70202 70203 Rail mounting The housing base is designed for snapmounting on DIN rails, type EN50022-35x7.5 (can be released with a screwdriver) Direct mounting There are two drill holes for screwmounting (for the drilling template, see "Dimensions"). The housing base is fitted with raised supports. Screws: Max. diameter 3.5 mm, length 38 mm The following points should be observed for mounting: Mounting with terminal covers: in unprotected environments, e.g. in ducting, false floors and ceiling voids etc. Mounting without terminal covers: only in protected environments such as fan-coil units or control panels Heat generated during operation must be dissipated; adequate air circulation must be ensured Easy access for service personnel Observe local installation regulations The mounting instructions and drilling diagram are printed on the packaging. Commissioning notes The RXC20.1 and RXC21.1 controllers are commissioned with the RXT10.1 commissioning and service tool. The RXT10.1 is plugged into a tool socket (on the controller or the room unit) for connection to the bus. Details of the commissioning steps for the entire DESIO RX range are given in the RXT10.1 user manual, CA2B3808. Siemens Building Technologies CA2N3834E / 11.1998 Landis & Staefa Division 5/12

Labelling Function test Notes The labelling fields "Appl." and Loc." are used to write the application actually loaded and the location. Alternatively printed adhesive labels can be used (see "Mechanical design Label"). Every application (including 00020 and 00021) allows interrogation of the inputs and control of the outputs using the RXT10.1 commissioning and service tool. This means that the fan-coil manufacturer can test fitted units before delivery. The bus plug (terminals 17 and 18) can be removed and re-connected at any time, even when the controller is in operation. Use only the original bus plug. In the case of a short circuit or overload, the thermal fuse in the transformer may trip, and the controller will switch off. After the problem has been solved, and following a delay of about 10 minutes, the controller reverts to normal operation. Warning There is no protection against incorrect wiring with AC 230 V.
