Supporting countries to develop science-based strategies The International Resource Panel information document to UNEA-3 partially covering the state and outlook on global resource use. A full report will be presented as an official document at UNEA-4. Presently the draft report is undergoing scientific peer review. The report looks at resource use across the full cycle (driver, pressure, state, impact, response) It looks forward along 4 pathways It concludes amongst other points, that resource efficiency and circular economy create jobs and deliver better socio-economic and environmental outcomes compared to business-as-usual over the long term

Supporting countries to develop science-based strategies Supporting the enabling conditions for the application of life cycle approaches: Life Cycle Knowledge Platform E-Modules introducing life cycle approaches Supporting decision making with science-based life cycle approaches covering the whole value chain in key sectors: e.g. plastics

Hotspots Analysis Tool Hotspot areas of unsustainable consumption and production à setting priorities in national sustainable consumption and production and climate policies. Domestic pressures and impacts (production perspective) + impacts occurring in foreign countries (consumption/footprint perspective). Material footprint / Resource Depletion; Greenhouse Gases / Climate Change; Water use and impacts; land use + biodiversity It provides a wide-range of analytical options: intuitive and flexible online app. Possibility for national offices to insert their own data. A joint project of the Secretariats of:

Knowledge sharing across the programmes Programme portfolios of activities showcasing the tools and solutions available to countries. o Activities jointly create value by developing strategic products - standards, criteria, guidelines and methodologies - that deliver change, are implemented by the network and are widely promoted. Programmes exploring cross-cutting topics in order to set the Agenda in those areas. Sharing best practices, tools and solutions from governments, private sector, civil society and others on crosscutting topics. Organizing joint events to bring in different programme perspectives for subsequent joint implementation. Identifying strategic gaps across the network from reporting data, looking across all programmes for a coherent and synergistic approach to address the most pressing issues.

One Plan for One Planet : Strategy 2018-2022 A common vision

Resources are required for the implementation of SDG 12 *In USD Million; From: UN Secretary General report on repositioning the UN development system for the delivery of Agenda 2030 UN Secretary General: SDG 12 is the least well resourced SDG Ten Year Framework external review: framework is drastically resource constrained Pooled multi-partner funds provide a strategic entry point for channelling financial resources to catalyse and support the delivery of SDG 12 as a transversal Goal.

A way forward for financing SDG 12 10YFP Trust Fund (2012-2017) One Planet Multi-Partner Trust Fund on SDG 12 (2018-2022) UN Environment Fund (One Agency) Multi-agency Fund (Pooled fundingmechanism) Small-scale, seemingly fragmented projects Stand-alone initiatives within a country Broad scope Comprehensice projects based on SCP-readiness with National Focal Point Integrated into national delivery from UN Country Teams Implementing the One Plan for One Planet Strategy and nationally identified priorities Fragmented resource mobilization Joint resource mobilization One Planet Multi-Partner Trust Fund: to bring cohesive action on Sustainable Consumption and Production at scale, on the ground

Coordinated delivery on SDG 12 N.B The Strategy and Trust Fund objectives are fully aligned with UN Environments Medium Term Strategy and Programme of Work and make a direct contribution to the implementation of the Expected Accomplishments associated with the Resource Efficiency sub-programme.
