Release Notes Color Controller E-850, version 1.0 This document contains information about Color Controller E-850 server software version 1.0. Before using the Color Controller E-850, make a copy of these Release Notes and distribute them to all users. This document uses the term E-850 to refer to the Color Controller E-850. Before printing to the E-850: Verify that system software version 1.0 is installed on the E-850. Install user software onto client computers. For instructions, see the User Software Installation Guide. Installation Installing on Windows 2000/XP computers Before you install E-850 software on Windows 2000/XP computers, you must have the latest service pack installed. Install the latest service pack from the Microsoft Web site. Uninstalling the printer drivers If you installed the printer drivers using the installer from the User Software CD, uninstall the drivers using the Add/Remove program. If you installed the printer drivers using Add Printer, uninstall the drivers using the Fiery Printer Delete Utility. If you installed the printer drivers using SMB shared printing, either from the disk controller or from a Windows server, uninstall the drivers by deleting the printer icons. Fiery Printer Delete Utility When you use the Fiery Printer Delete Utility to uninstall printer drivers on Windows 98/NT, the cursor may appear as an hourglass. This does not cause any issues with functionality. Setup Renaming the E-850 If you rename the E-850, the name must be 15 or less characters. TCP/IP and DHCP servers In some cases, Mac OS computers may quit unexpectedly or fail to respond when attempting to obtain an IP address from a DHCP server while loading the TCP/IP driver. Before running applications, such as ColorWise Pro Tools, check the TCP/IP control panel to make sure you are using a valid IP address and that the router and DNS server addresses are valid. Local Setup from a Windows computer If a connection to the E-850 fails after you change settings in the General or Printer Setup tab of the Fiery Server Setup dialog box, the Work Group name and Domain name may be the same. To resolve this problem, assign different names. 2004 Electronics for Imaging, Inc. Part number: 45043467 06 August 2004

Page 2 Character limitation in Network Setup In Network Setup from the E-850 Control Panel, you can enter a maximum of 15 characters for the context name. When using Fiery Setup or Fiery WebSetup, you can enter more than 32 characters. Remote Setup for Bindery and NDS When configuring Bindery or NDS in Network Setup using WebSetup or EFI Command WorkStation from a client computer, enter a password to make changes. For Bindery Setup, log in as Admin, Supervisor, or Guest, with the appropriate password. For NDS, select the appropriate login and password. WebSetup During Bindery Setup, WebSetup only allows you to choose Admin, Supervisor, or Guest. It does not allow you to enter a unique user name. If these accounts have been renamed on your system, use local setup. IPX Auto Frame Type If you enable IPX Auto Frame Type in Setup, the E-850 will bind only to the first frame type it finds, which is typically 802.2 or Ethernet II. To ensure that all available frame types are bound, select each one individually. After the E-850 restarts upon exiting Setup, print the Configuration page to verify that all selected frame types were successfully bound. Connecting to other Windows NT servers with Point and Print Using Point and Print (PnP), you can download printer drivers from any printer server in your network. If you use PnP to connect to a Windows NT server that has guest logon disabled and has a different Admin logon than your client, you will get a connection error. To avoid this, log on to the Windows NT server in Windows Explorer to establish the connection before connecting to it with PnP. Shared printers Shared printing will not work if you connect the Windows server to the Fiery by local port. Instead, connect the Windows server to the LPR or Standard port. Netware Settings When you set the Enable banner setting in the printer driver under Netware Settings, the 1st banner name will appear as the User name in Command WorkStation when you send a job. Unable to create a local port When the User Account is Administrator and the password is not Fiery.1, you will not be able to create a local port. To create a local port, change the password to Fiery.1. Point and Print (PnP) and installable options When the driver is installed through PnP and bi-directional communication is enabled: The installed options on the server do not update in the Configuration/Installable options tab if the client is not an administrator/power user on the server. The Configuration/Installable options tab does not update even if Update Fiery Driver when opened is selected. The Add/Remove and Defaults buttons are disabled.

Page 3 To update the installable options, the Administrator must update them manually on the driver on the server side. This updates the Device Settings tab, which updates the E-850 printer driver s Configuration/Installable options tab. Updating installable options on the client computer You must be an administrator on the client computer to add or change the installable options on the client side. Shared printing from Windows 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000 server When you print from a Windows NT client computer, your print job may not have the correct output image direction. To avoid this problem, when you perform shared printing from a Windows 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000 server to a Windows NT client computer, you should: 1. Install the NT client driver under additional drivers on the server. 2. Install the SharedNtDriver patch provided on the User CD in the Win_2K_XP_Patch folder. This will resolve the rotation problems when printing from the Windows NT client computer. System Restore Backup The Windows XP embedded software resides on the hard disk and is backed up the first time you turn on the E-850. If necessary, you can retrieve a backup of the software using the Fiery Restore/Update CD. Insert the CD in the CD drive, and restart the E-850. After restoring, you must reinstall any features and utilities you have installed from the User Software CD and the User Documentation CD. Maximum number of users for SMB Windows XP embedded software supports a total of 10 SMB simultaneous connections, including the Direct connection, Print queue, and Hold queue. Windows 2000/Windows XP and LPR availability When you perform a fresh install of Windows 2000/Windows XP on a client computer, no LPR services are available by default. You can only print through a standard TCP/IP port. However, if you converted a Windows NT 4.0 computer to Windows 2000, LPR printing services are retained. E-850 domain configuration To add the E-850 to a domain in configurations that do not include the Fiery Advanced Controller Interface option, you need to add the E-850 from another Windows NT 4.0 server on the network, using the Server Manager utility. PS driver installed by Point and Print (PnP) If you install the PS driver on Windows NT using PnP, the spool time increases and incoming, duplicate jobs increase in size. We recommend that you do not install printer drivers by PnP on Windows NT.

Page 4 Calculation of HDD capacity The size of the E-850 hard disk drive is 60 GB. For your information, 1 GB = 1000MB = 1000000KB = 1000000000 Bytes =1 billion bytes, or 1 GB = 1024 MB = 1048576KB = 1073741824 Bytes. Fiery Advanced Controller Interface (FACI) option Startup error driver failed You may see the following message on the monitor when you restart the system: At least one service or driver failed during system startup. Use Event Viewer to examine the event log for details. Ignore the message and click OK to close the window. Command WorkStation connection lost If the message Connection to the E-850 lost appears in the Command WorkStation window, click OK and restart the E-850 using Reboot System from the Server menu or the Control Panel. You can then start Command WorkStation to re-establish the connection. Printing Disk full error message When the hard disk on the E-850 is full, print jobs sent to the E-850 are not printed until the current job is finished. You can remove completed jobs from the Printed Queue to free up disk space. Canceling print jobs from client computers You may not be able to cancel large print jobs from client computers. Canceling print jobs with Windows Spooler Do not use the Windows Spooler to cancel jobs. If you need to cancel jobs from Windows, use Job Monitor. PDF files PDF files sent to the Direct connection are treated as if they were sent to the Print queue. When using Downloader to download PDF files, the file name and user name appear as Unknown. Sending jobs via AppleTalk When sending a print job from a Windows NT client computer using AppleTalk, the user identification displays as Unknown. Problems with staple position, hole punch, and binding direction for multiple pages on a single sheet from a Mac OS application If you print more than one page on a single sheet (for example, 2-up) the position of the staple, hole punch, and the binding direction may not be correct. To correct this, use the Orientation option. Job Title/User Name The Job Title/User Name does not display for Standard TCP/IP (Port 9100) for Windows 2000.

Page 5 Windows 2000 Custom page sizes When you create a Custom Page Size with a Microsoft Office application on WindowsNT/2000/XP, it may not print properly with the procedures described in the Printing Guide. If this happens, refer to the Microsoft support site. If you select Custom page size dimensions close to the maximum or minimum limits specified in the printer driver, you may receive an error message, or the Custom page size settings may be changed automatically. DNS Names with IPP printing DNS Names cannot be used for IPP printing unless your system is configured to use DHCP and the Fiery Advanced Controller Interface. If it is not, use the E-850 IP address for IPP printing. Viewing edited Instructions properties from the job log If you edit the Instructions properties through the Owner Information print option bar (PostScript only), part of the edited Instructions may not display when you view the Instructions properties from the job log. Watermarks In the PostScript driver, when you print a watermark larger than 72 points, the watermark color might be changed. If you install the printer driver with SMB installation, the default watermark does not appear. For the UK Printer Driver, you may receive a Warning message if you enter a value greater than six characters. For example, the Warning displays if you enter -257.97. To avoid the error message, enter six or less characters. For example, enter -257.9. Using watermarks for PCL jobs When you print a PCL job with a large watermark size (e.g. 500), you receive a PCL error and the job does not print. N-up printing from Windows XP If you print an N-up job (for example, 2-up, 4-up, and so on) from Windows XP using the IPP port, the E-850 sometimes prints the job as 1-up. N-up printing and large data image files If you print an N-up and Duplex job at the same time that you are printing a large data image file using the PCL printer driver, the N-up print job may fail. If failure occurs, use the PostScript printer driver. You may also need to extend the memory for the PCL driver. Setting installed options from a Mac OS computer You must manually specify the options installed on the E-850 from the Mac OS printer driver. Automatic updating of installed options is not supported.

Page 6 PCL Spooled/Held jobs If you remove the raster data from a Spooled/Held PCL job, and you try to print it, the job will not print. Because PCL jobs do not have job overrides, you will have to reprocess the job. Novell Banner pages Do not use finisher options when printing Novell Banner pages using the PostScript driver. As a workaround, if you need to print Novell Banner pages, use the PCL driver. E-mail printing E-mail account password E-mail printing does not work if the E-850 e-mail account does not have a password. To enable the E-850 to receive e-mail print jobs, set a password for the e-mail account the E-850 is configured to use. Maximum file attachment size E-mail Printing supports file attachment sizes smaller than 8MB. Do not send file attachments that are larger than 8MB. E-mail Port Printing Only users whose E-mail addresses are in the Print Address Book are authorized to submit jobs via E-mail to the E-850. This includes jobs printed using the E-mail Port Monitor. Job settings Combine Separations and Toner Reduction With Combine Separations set to On, choosing Toner Reduction On has no effect. Paper size When sending a job from an application (such as Microsoft Word) that allows you to specify paper size in the Print dialog box, select the same paper size in both the application s Page Setup dialog box and the printer s Properties dialog box. Before printing your job, verify that the paper size selection in Document Setup and Page Setup are the same. This will resolve problems with your output, such as image clipping and unintentional scaling. Paper size for international Windows 2000 applications When printing from Microsoft Office 2000 or Microsoft Office XP for Windows 2000, the paper size differs based on the language (locale) setup. Select the letter (LT) setting when printing an A4 document from the US version of Windows. Select the A4 setting when printing a letter (LT) document from the non-us version of Windows. Negative Image The Negative Image print option (Windows 98/Me) does not function as expected. You must set the Black Overprint and Pure Black Text and Graphics options to Off in order for the Negative Image option to function. The Negative Image print option is only supported with Windows98/Me. Mixed Paper Size printing To print a mixed paper-size print job, set the appropriate paper size in the copier cassette before printing.

Page 7 Collate Use the Collate option in the Fiery printer driver instead of specifying the Collate option within the application. If you print from a Mac OS computer, do not use the setting on the General tab. Instead, specify a setting for Sorter Mode on the Printer Specific tab. When you print multiple pages or sets using the PCL printer driver, make sure that you select the Collate setting in the Sorter Mode option. Save Fast Reprint The RIP only setting in the Save Fast Reprint print option is supported when printing PCL jobs. Tray Alignment (Mac OS 9) When you enable Tray Alignment in Mac OS 9, do not select any of the AutoSelect settings in the Paper Source. Select the specific tray that you want to align. Rendering Style When you select Absolute Colorimetric for the Rendering Style option for a PCL job, the job prints with process black (4-color black) instead of K-only black. This is because the Absolute Colorimetric setting is used in situations when exact colors are needed. Duplex Depending on the application, if you set the duplex setting to Top-Top, in some cases, your print job may print Top-Bottom. This may happen because for some applications, you must enter the same settings in the application s Page Setup and the E-850 printer driver. If different settings are entered, you may receive unexpected results. Job Template If you have a networked shared printer, Job Templates created on the server will not appear on your client computer. Scale to Fit If Scale to Fit is Off and you enter a scale percentage value, the image may shift. Halftone In the PCL printer driver, the Auto mode setting for the Halftone option is not supported. If you select a Halftone setting, it will be applied to the entire print job. Job Monitor Sharpness In the PCL driver, if you select a Sharpness setting, it will be applied to the entire print job. Uninstalling drivers When you uninstall the shared printer driver, you may receive an error message because the Job Monitor is not automatically uninstalled. You may have to manually uninstall the Job Monitor. Installing a shared printer on a Windows 2000 server If the E-850 printer driver is installed on a Windows 2000 server as a shared printer, and you install the printer driver to your client computer using SMB, Job Monitor cannot connect to the E-850 and you will receive an error.

Page 8 Job Monitor on Windows 98 does not connect to the E-850 When you install Windows 98 drivers from a Windows 2000 server, and you launch Job Monitor, the Job Monitor cannot identify the IP address of the E-850. Instead, it connects to the IP address of the Windows 2000 Server. Job Monitor Preferences When you use Windows NT, depending on how you access the Job Monitor, when you open the Preferences for Job Monitor, you may notice differences. If you select Launch Job Monitor from the Printer Status tab of the driver, when you open the Job Monitor Preferences, the Run at Windows Startup and both Message Boxes are automatically selected. These settings are not the correct default preferences. To show the correct default preferences, open the Properties of the E-850 and click Print Test Page to automatically create a shortcut to the Job Monitor on your desktop. When you access the Job Monitor Preferences, you will see that no Preferences are selected. Fiery VDP Resource Manager Fonts Java version installer When you install the Fiery VDP Resource Manager, you might get an error indicating that the Java version installer could not be found. If this happens, make sure you install the most current version (1.1.011c). Downloading fonts Before downloading fonts, turn off Member Printing. Printing the Euro currency symbol The E-850 supports the following PostScript fonts for printing the Euro currency symbol: Courier, Times Roman, Helvetica, and Arial. Screen Resolution Fiery Downloader Printer image The printer image in the printer driver will not display properly if viewed in 24-bit screen resolution. To display the image properly, change the screen setting to 16-bit or 32-bit resolution. Downloading jobs Avoid downloading jobs from a CD-ROM or external storage device while the E-850 is printing. Downloading fonts When you download certain Adobe Type 1 fonts to the Direct connection using Fiery Downloader, an error message appears. As a workaround, download the fonts using Command WorkStation. Drag and Drop When you use the drag-and-drop method to print a file, Fiery Downloader functions slightly differently on the Mac OS than it does on Windows 98. On the Mac OS, when a file is dropped on the Downloader icon, the Status window appears and remains displayed, even after the file prints. On Windows, the Status window appears and then closes when the job finishes printing.

Page 9 Adding files If an error occurs when adding a file to the download list, try the following remedies: Make sure the file is closed. A file open for viewing cannot be added to the download list. If you are using Windows, start Windows Explorer and choose Folder Options from the View menu. Click the View tab, and deselect Hide file extensions for known file types. Cannot download EPS files You cannot print multiple copies of EPS files created in Photoshop 6.0.1 using Fiery Downloader. To print multiple copies, use Command WorkStation. Fiery Spooler Owner Information field The instructions in the Owner Information field can be up to 127 characters long. When a printed job is reprinted, some or all of the characters in the Owner Information may be deleted. Canceling jobs You cannot cancel a job in Fiery Spooler. To cancel a job, use Command WorkStation or Job Monitor. Show Job Log If the Job Log contains more than 500 jobs, you may not be able to view all the jobs (Window > Show Job Log > All). If this happens, increase the application s memory to 4000 KB. Job Log printing When you use Fiery Spooler on Mac OS 9, the Print Job Log command does not work. Instead, use the Export Job Log command to print the Job Log. Fiery WebTools Configuring Mac OS Internet Explorer To use Fiery WebTools with Internet Explorer from Mac OS, you must configure your browser settings to support Java correctly. In Internet Explorer, choose Edit > Preferences. On the left side of the Internet Explorer Preferences screen, click Java (under Web Browser). On the right side of the screen, uncheck the box Restrict Access to Non-Java Files. WebDownloader WebDownloader does not determine the default file type or the file type listed in the File dialog box. The default file type is predefined by your Internet browser. However, if you send HTML files to the printer, the data is printed as ASCII text (the default extension for ASCII text is.txt). Select All Files from the Files of type menu to view other files to download. When downloading PDF files from a Windows computer, the file name and user name are displayed as Unknown.

Page 10 WebScan and Fiery Remote Scan If you use WebScan and Fiery Remote Scan to download a multiple-page document in TIFF 6.0 or JPEG format, you will be able to view only the first page of the document in most image-editing applications. To view the entire document in the image-editing application, scan and download each page (and side, if duplex) of the document as a separate file. If an error occurs when opening a downloaded TIFF 6.0 document in Photoshop, the document may have been downloaded with a.tiff extension in its file name. To open the document in Photoshop, first change the file extension to.tif. WebSetup If you are unable to access WebSetup by entering the DNS name of the E-850 in Internet Explorer, perform the following steps: 1. Start WebSetup by entering the IP address of the E-850 in Internet Explorer. The Accessing WebSetup window appears, displaying instructions for configuring Internet Explorer. 2. Follow the instructions displayed in the window. If the Java Custom Settings button is not visible, scroll down to the Microsoft VM area of the Custom Level dialog box, and select Custom under Java Permissions. 3. Repeat the instructions, but select the Local Intranet zone instead of Internet. Configure the Local Intranet options using the same settings that were used for the Internet zone. WebSetup does not save WINS IP address When you set the WINS IP address, see the E-850 instruction sheet entitled Steps to Configure Static IP with WINS server from the LCD. Command WorkStation Installation You must install Internet Explorer version 6.0 or later before installing Command WorkStation. Using imposition templates If you save a job in DocBuilder Pro that uses an imposition template, when you reopen the job in DocBuilder Pro, the name of the template you used will not display in the Template field. Viewing edited Instructions properties from the job log If you edit the Instructions properties through the Owner Information print option bar (PostScript only), part of the edited Instructions may not display when you view the Instructions properties from the job log. DocBuilder Pro installation DocBuilder Pro must be installed after Command WorkStation 4 and Adobe Acrobat have been installed. If you already have DocBuilder Pro and you want to upgrade Command WorkStation, you must first uninstall DocBuilder Pro, upgrade Command WorkStation, and then reinstall DocBuilder Pro.

Page 11 DocBuilder Pro requires the version of Acrobat that is included with the DocBuilder Pro package. If you already have a version of Acrobat, uninstall it and install the version provided. To use DocBuilder Pro on a Windows NT or Windows XP computer, log in to the computer as Administrator. Archiving Archived jobs do not have actual file names, but have cryptic names recognizable only by the E-850. Archived jobs are intended only to be accessed by the E-850. FreeForm The number of copies printed does not display in the FreeForm window in Command WorkStation. Override settings Selecting Command WorkStation override settings may cause a print job to process incorrectly. If you override a setting for an option from Command WorkStation and then open the job settings again to replace that setting with Printer s Default, you may get unexpected printing results. To avoid this, do not choose Printer s Default when you override print settings from Command WorkStation, or remove the original raster file before you override print settings again. Job Notes You cannot edit Job Notes from Command WorkStation. Cancel Printing If you choose Cancel Printing from the Server menu in Command WorkStation, and you restart the E-850 before the Cancel function has been completed, you will lose the connection to the E-850, and unknown errors may be displayed. Command WorkStation does not respond If the E-850 experiences heavy printing volume and Command WorkStation does not respond, you must choose Restart Server and then reconnect to Command WorkStation. Mac OS computer When you print a job to the E-850 from a Mac OS computer, erroneous characters may appear in the job name in Command WorkStation queues and on cover sheets. Uninstall option The Uninstall option is not available for Command WorkStation. To remove Command WorkStation, run the Command WorkStation installer again (Setup.exe) or use the Add/Remove feature in the Control Panel. Printing Job Log To print more than 55 jobs in the Job Log, select the Job Log tab in Command WorkStation and select Print from the Window menu. If you select Print Pages from the File menu, it will only print the first 55 jobs. Printing progress The print progress (Page/Number of copies) shown under Activity may not be correct.

Page 12 Previewing secured PDF files If you preview a spooled (not RIPed) PDF print job that has Acrobat security set to prevent editing, you cannot edit, add, or remove pages from the Preview window. No warning message will appear. If you cannot edit a PDF print job, open the file in Acrobat and check the security settings. Setup When you perform Setup whether from the Control Panel, Command WorkStation, or Fiery WebSetup make sure the copier is not in power save mode. Otherwise, the E-850 does not reboot properly. When you exit Setup from Command WorkStation or Fiery WebSetup, you must choose Reboot Server for the Setup changes to take effect. When you exit Setup from the Control Panel, the E-850 reboots automatically. User Name for cover page Command WorkStation shows the computer name as the user name when you print a cover page. Cancelling a job in the Active Jobs list When you cancel a waiting job in the Active Jobs list in Command WorkStation, the job does not cancel immediately. This happens because jobs are cancelled after they are processed or printed in the order that they were received for processing. Unsupported version Command WorkStation version 3 is not supported for the E-850. Printing Groups Passwords Passwords can be up to 31 characters long. Passwords are case-sensitive. Group names Group names can be up to 31 characters long. Group names with spaces cannot be entered from Mac OS computers. If you are specifying group names from a Mac computer, do not use spaces in the group name. Incorrect group name or password If you enter an incorrect group name or password for a print job, the job generates an error message and proceeds to the Printed Jobs queue without printing. Using other printer drivers If you do not use the E-850 printer driver to send the print job, you must enter the group name and password in Command WorkStation. Job Log fields The Notes field in the printer driver is stored in the Notes 1 field in the Job Log. The Group Name field in the printer driver is stored in the Notes 2 field in the Job Log.

Page 13 ColorWise Pro Tools Establishing the ColorWise Pro Tools connection from Mac computers To establish the ColorWise Pro Tools connection from a Mac computer, you must connect to the server with an IP address and the DNS server name. If your Mac OS computer cannot connect to a E-850 by using the DNS name, register the E-850 into your DNS server. Autogray from the Color Editor When used for the first time, Autogray from the Color Editor appears in both the Simulation and Output modes. Autogray is only applicable to the Simulation mode. Calibration with a densitometer You can calibrate the E-850 with an XRite DTP 32 densitometer via client computer or Server only if you have the Fiery Advanced Controller Interface option installed. Otherwise, you must calibrate using the AutoCal method if you are using the copying capabilities. For more information on calibration, see the Color Guide. For Mac OS support, calibration with the DTP 32 densitometer and the EFI Densitometer requires a serial port adapter and USB PDA adapter, respectively. We recommend you use the Keyspan adapter if your Mac does not have a serial port. Associating output profiles and calibration sets Before you can print a Comparison Page or View Measurements, you must associate the output profile with the same calibration set you chose when you printed the measurement page. To link a calibration set with an output profile 1. Start ColorWise Pro Tools and click Profile Manager. 2. Select the E-850 output profile and click Edit. This starts Color Editor. 3. Without making any edits, click Save in the lower-right corner of the Color Editor window. 4. In the Description field of the Save window, enter a new name for this copy of the output profile and click Save again. Give the profile a name that describes the type of job it is optimized for, such as SpecialBluePaper. 5. Click Done in the lower-right corner of the Color Editor window. 6. In Profile Manager, select the new output profile you just created and click Profile Settings. 7. Under Use Calibration Set, select the calibration set you used when you calibrated the E-850 and click OK. 8. Click Done in the lower-right corner of the Profile Manager window. Now you are able to print the Comparison Page or View Measurements from the Calibrator Expert window. If you have not associated the calibration set with an output profile, an error message appears.

Page 14 Profile Manager When using Profile Manager from ColorWise Pro Tools on the server, the default color directory is not available upon install. Add the color folder as follows (D:\WinNT\system32\Color) and Profile Manager will be able to download and upload from the default location as expected. Monitor Profiles When you select a monitor profile from the Spot-On module, the dialog box displays all file types. It should show only ICC and ICM monitor profile files. Fiery Remote Scan Scanning from Adobe Photoshop When you scan and print a job from Photoshop, the orientation may change from portrait to landscape. To print correctly, rotate the job 90 degrees clockwise. Scanning while a print job is processing Do not begin scanning a job while another job is in process. Wait until the current job has finished printing before using Fiery Remote Scan. Paper size and Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) Make sure the ADF has the same paper size setting as the setting you use in Fiery Remote Scan, otherwise, the scanned image may be incorrect. Printing scanned PDFs To print a scanned PDF that you have retrieved from a mailbox, open and print the PDF in Adobe Acrobat. Do not use Fiery Downloader. Canceling scan jobs Scans initiated by the TWAIN plug-in cannot be canceled using the server control panel. Instead, cancel the job from the copier display. Match Copy If you select Match Copy as the color conversion method, some scans may appear pink when viewed onscreen. These images will print correctly only if you set the CMYK simulation option to Match Copy in the printer driver. Sending e-mail with Fiery Remote Scan When you scan to e-mail using Fiery Remote Scan, use 80 or less characters when entering an e-mail address.

Page 17 Numbering in pop-up menu of Print dialog box may not behave as expected In the Print Dialog box, the pop-up menu groups related print options together. If there are more than five settings in a category, multiple menu options with the same name will appear in the menu. Menu options are numbered, and the numbering will not restart for menu options in a different category. For example, the menu options could be named ColorWise 1, ColorWise 2, ColorWise 3, Destination, Finishing 5, Finishing 6. Print dialog box may not be redrawn correctly When you move between panes in the Print dialog box (for example between the Printer Features and Copies & Pages panes) they may not be updated properly, and the same options may continue to appear. If this occurs, click Cancel and open the Print dialog box again. Applications All If a finishing option, such as Collating or Stapling, is available and selected within the application or printer driver, unexpected results may occur. To avoid this problem, do not select the option within the application select it within the E-850 printer driver. Long Edge Feed paper sizes differ slightly from corresponding Short Edge Feed paper sizes in the print properties within applications. For example A5 (LEF) appears as 5.833 x 8.264, while A5 SEF appears as 5.833x 8.278. These size discrepancies are negligible and do not affect the printing result. Microsoft Office Microsoft Office 2000 When running a Microsoft Office 2000 application, you may see an error message stating: Microsoft Word/This file Contains macros with an expired or revoked signature. Since you are running under High Security Level, These macros disabled. Clicking OK in the error dialog box returns you to the application. The message is caused by a digital signature for Acrobat 4.05 that has expired. To avoid this error message in the future, change the Security settings in the Office 2000 application that returns the error: 1. In the Office 2000 application, choose Tools > Macro >Security. 2. In the Security dialog box, click the Security Level tab, and select the desired security level. 3. Click the Trusted Sources tab, and select Trust all installed add-ins and templates. 4. Click OK to save your changes. 5. Restart the Office 2000 application.

Page 18 Microsoft Word Printing jobs with Microsoft Word 97 In Microsoft Word 97 on Windows 98, when you print jobs of more than 1,000 pages in reverse order, the first 1,000 pages are RIPped and printed before the remaining pages are RIPped and printed. In Microsoft Word 97 on Windows NT 4.0, when you print jobs with Pure Black Text and Graphics set to Off, the job is printed with black-only text. Outline characters In some cases, outline characters may not print correctly using Microsoft Word on Windows 98/Me. Microsoft Excel Printing Workbooks If you choose Entire Workbook in the Print dialog box from Microsoft Excel for Windows, the job may print as separate jobs, because Excel sends each worksheet to the copier as a separate job. Print settings, such as Duplex and Sorter Mode, will be applied to the first worksheet and ignored for the rest. To apply print settings, you must select each sheet, go to Page Setup/Options, and select the print option settings for your job. To print the Entire Workbook, select all sheets in the workbook. Click the first worksheet tab at the bottom of the Excel page, hold down the Shift key, and click the last worksheet tab. Select Print from the File menu. In the Print area of the Print dialog box, select Active Sheets, and the job will print correctly. Multiple copies If you select a number larger than one (1) for the Number of Copies option in Microsoft Excel 97 and the Collate check box is also selected, Excel will send multiple, identical jobs to the E-850. You must clear the Collate check box before you send multiple copies from Excel. Letter and A4 page sizes in Excel 2002 for Windows 2000/XP If you send an A4 paper size job to the E-850 and it is printed on Letter size, or vice versa, verify the setting in Excel 2002 for Allow A4/Letter resizing. You can also set a default in PS Setup on the E-850 to control this paper size conversion for all jobs. Microsoft PowerPoint Copies When you select the number of copies in the Adobe driver, the driver will not update the number of copies in the application you are running. In order to print the requested copies, enter the number of copies in the application s Print dialog box and in the Adobe printer driver. Page setup When you print some PowerPoint files from Windows XP, a PostScript error message may be displayed. The error displays for those PowerPoint files with background image gradations. When this error occurs, you may need to add additional memory to print the file. QuarkXPress Duotones Duotone EPS files created in Photoshop may print with incorrect colors when printed from QuarkXPress. Print in low resolution to correct the colors. Page size The Page size option in QuarkXPress defaults to Custom for the E-850 printer driver. If you do not want to print your job on a Custom page size, you must select another page size before printing.

Page 19 Windows version The N-Up, Watermark, Mirror Image, and Negative Image options do not function in QuarkXPress for Windows. Black Images Imported from Photoshop When you import a 100% black EPS image created in Photoshop to QuarkXPress 4.1, the color will be a lighter black shade. To achieve 100% black text and graphics, turn off Pure Black Text and Graphics. Novell banner page If you experience a paper jam when you print with a Novell banner page, turn off the banner page. Printer Description files QuarkXPress will not automatically find the printer description files on Windows 2000. To find the file location, use the printer description file manager found under the Utilities menu. Adobe Acrobat Support Do not use Adobe Acrobat version 5.0 or you may experience unexpected results. Use Adobe Acrobat 5.05. N-up printing with Duplex When you send a duplex job to the E-850, a Top-Top job might print as Top-Bottom, and vice versa. To work around this situation, specify Top-Bottom to get Top-Top output, and vice versa. Adobe PageMaker Printer s Default Do not choose Printer s Default when printing from PageMaker. PageMaker does not recognize the Printer s Default information in the E-850 printer driver. Selecting Printer s Default in PageMaker may cause unexpected printing results. Duplex All jobs sent from PageMaker will be sent with Duplex On, even if you specify Duplex Off in the print option settings. When specifying duplex with the N-up feature, the job will not print correctly. The opposite of what is selected will print. Printer description files Pagemaker 6.5 does not support automatic installation of printer description files from the Printers Control Panel. To make the E-850 available in the Print and Page Setup dialog boxes of this application for all Windows machines, copy only the Windows NT 4.0 printer description file to the appropriate location. Perform the following steps: 1. On the User Software CD, open the English\Prntdrvr\Ps_drvr folder. 2. Select English\Prntdrvr\Ps_drvr\Win_NT4x. 3. Copy the printer description file for your E-850 to the \PM65\RSRC\USENGLSH\PPD4 folder on your operating system. Job properties In PageMaker, the job property for paper source always displays InputSlot.

Page 20 CorelDRAW Printing from Mac OS You need to set the same print options, such as number of sets and collation, in both the application and the E-850 printer driver. Negative Images CorelDRAW 8.0 does not support negative images. Mac OS Simple Text Mac Simple Text files may not print. To avoid this, you may have to increase the virtual memory allocated to the Simple Text application to 2MB. If you still experience printing problems, try increasing the memory. Internet Explorer 5.0 printing Printer specific options are not available when printing from Internet Explorer 5.0 Regardless of the resolution of a JPEG image, Internet Explorer displays and prints the JPEG at 72 dpi. Therefore, a page that would normally be printed on a letter size page is much larger.
