MTN PEER REVIEW WALK THROUGH FOR REVIEWERS OF THE DOCUMENT SUBMISSION PROCESS: LOGGING INTO THE MTN WEBSITE: 1) Click the login link in the top right corner of the MTN website home page (http://www.mtnstopshiv.org/). Click here to log in.
2) Log in with your MTN user name and password then click the green Log In button. After successfully logging in, your user name will be located in the page s top right corner.
There are six possible actions/links you can choose to proceed through the manuscript review process. Two links, Submit New Manuscript and My Manuscripts are applicable only if you would submit an article as an author for review to The Manuscript Review Committee (MRC). After successfully logging in the links will be available on every page within the Peer Review Module. They are located in the purple side-box on the right of the screen titled Peer Review. If you navigate outside of the Peer Review Module to another area of the MTN website (Home, About, Sites etc.) you can simply return to the Peer Review Module by clicking on your username link located at the top right corner of any page. After doing this, the Peer Review purple-side box will be available again. When you wish to exit the MTN website please remember to logout. The login and logout links are available on any page within the website and are located in the page s top right corner. 3) The Peer Review purple side box has the following links: A) Manuscript Process Information link that gives an overview of Peer Review Manuscript procedures including links to other sites with guidelines on creating manuscripts, posters etc.. B) Submit New Manuscript Link used only if you were acting as an author, not a as a Reviewer. This link allows an author to submit a new document to the Manuscript Review Committee (MRC). In your role as a Reviewer you would not use this link. C) My Manuscripts Link used only if you were acting as an author, not a as a Reviewer to revise a new document you sent to the Manuscript Review Committee (MRC) for approval. In your role as a Reviewer you would not use this link. D) Review Manuscripts Primary link used by the Reviewer. Link to a listing of all submitted manuscripts you were assigned to review by the Peer Administrator and that are currently under review. Manuscripts listed in the table you are moved to after clicking the Review Manuscripts link have not yet completed the manuscript review process (document neither accepted nor denied). E) Approved Manuscripts Link to listing of all manuscripts that have completed the manuscript review process and have been approved for submission to a journal or conference by the Peer Administrator. Documents listed here would require no further action from you as Reviewer. F) Denied Manuscripts Link to listing of all manuscripts that have completed the manuscript review process and have been denied for submission to a journal or conference by the Peer Administrator. Documents listed here would require no further action from you as Reviewer.
TO INITIATE REVIEW OF AN ASSIGNED DOCUMENT: There are two methods you can use to begin your recommendation: METHOD A: 1) In the email you received with the subject of MTN MRC: You have been selected to review [manuscript name], click on the link in the body of your text reading, http://www.mtnstopshiv.org/node/node [#]. For Example: You If you were not logged into the website you will be asked to enter your MTN username and password before going the page to download the manuscript/make recommendations.
METHOD B: 1) After logging into the MTN website (see pages 1-3 for log in instructions) Click the Review Manuscripts link in the purple side-box on the right of the screen titled Peer Review.
You will move to a page with a table of manuscripts you have been assigned to review called Manuscripts For My Review. Click on the link of the manuscript title you were assigned to review in the Manuscripts For My Review table. Click here. The Manuscripts For My Review table lists by default the last document you were assigned to review first. However if you wish to change the sort order you can click on any blue column heading to sort by that column instead. The first click sorts it in descending order. If you click it again the column chosen will be sorted in ascending order. The Manuscripts For My Review table has the following columns: A) Manuscript Title If you click on the link of the manuscript s title you were assigned to review, you will move to that manuscript s summary page where you can download the author s originally submitted documents, click a link to move to a page to submit your recommendations and where you can attach a version of the author s manuscript with your track-changes (optional). B) Lead Author Lead author s first and last name. C) MRC Status the current status of this manuscript. It should now read Reviewer Selected. D) Document click the link to download the initial submitted version of the manuscript. E) Submitted The date the manuscript was uploaded by the author to the MRC. F) ID# - Unique identification number for this manuscript.
2) After completing step 1 in Method A (page 5), or Method B (page 6), you will be at the manuscript s summary information page which includes: A) Action link necessary for you to submit your recommendation to the Peer Administrator. B) The manuscript s current status (it should read, Reviewer Selected ). C) A brief synopsis of the submitted document with the author name, document type, intended venue for publication, journal or conference the author plans to submit to. D) Area that allows you to download the author s original submitted documents to the MRC. E) The Revision History table.
3) In the Manuscript Actions box click on the linked entitled, Submit Recommendations in order to move to the Submit Recommendations page where you can make your recommendation with major, minor and ancillary comments of the document you were assigned to review and attach a version of the author s manuscript with your trackedchanges. Later you will upload this page to the Peer Administrator. Click here.
4) At the Submit Recommendations page, in the Recommend MRC Status box (a mandatory field) click on the down arrow in order to select one of the following recommendations: Revisions Required, Not Approved, Approved. To select, click on one of the options listed.
5) Further down the page, in the Recommendations section, click in the applicable Major, Minor or Ancillary comments boxes to type your recommendation.
6) Near the bottom of the page is a section entitled, Manuscript Under Review where if you think necessary, you can attach a track-changes version of the document you are reviewing that will later be uploaded with your recommendations to the Peer Administrator.
To upload your track-changes document, in the Manuscript Document Attachment box, click the Browse button to select the track-changes document you created from your local pc, network drive or additional storage device directory as applicable. After clicking the Browse button a pop up box will appear. Select your document by clicking its name in its directory then click the Open button. The name and directory of your document will appear in the Manuscript Document Attached text box. If you do not want to upload the document in the Manuscript Document Attached text box you can delete the entry by backspacing\deleting the text in the box. If it is the correct document, click the green Upload button. At this time your document has not been uploaded to the Peer Administrator. It is being prepared to be sent.
If after clicking the Upload button you do not wish to upload the document you selected click the green Remove button to the right. The track changes document you prepare to be uploaded on this page and any recommendations you may have provided are not uploaded to the Peer Administrator until you select the Submit button at the bottom of this page.
7) Click the green Submit button at the bottom of the page.
You will move to a page with the following message, Thank you! Your recommendations have been submitted. Only the Peer Administrator will receive your recommendations and track-changes document (if uploaded), as well as an email notification that your recommendations have been completed. The author will not and should not receive your recommendation.
If you would like a paper record of this page indicating you have completed your recommendation, click the printer-friendly version link at the bottom of this page. No further action is required of you for this manuscript. If you are going to exit the MTN website please logout. The logout link is available on any page within the website and is located in the top right corner.
