Page 2 of 9 1 Product description Connectorized single fiber cables (pigtails and jumpers) are used in almost all cable termination products. Single-mode fiber-optic cable assemblies are designed for use in Telecommunications, CATV, Data-communications and Wide Area Network applications. Multimode fiber-optic cable assemblies, on the other hand, are designed for use in local area network (LAN) applications, and are not covered in this document Pigtails are single fiber cables pre-assembled with a connector at one end. They are typically used to terminate primary coated fiber to optical equipment. P&J011.JPG Jumpers are single fiber cables pre-assembled with a connector at both ends. They are typically used to cross-connect patch panel to patch panel and to inter-connect patch panels to optical equipment. P&J012.JPG Adapters enable the interconnection between two similar (or different style) fiber optic connectors. The adapters use a ceramic or metal sleeve (not standard) to align the connectors and achieve a low insertion loss connection. P&J4.JPG For special applications (such as in FIST-MK1-boxes) pigtails are available which are factory stripped-up to the secondary coating and have a pre-installed length of FOPT transportation tube. The FOPT transportation tube can be cut to length to suit the precise distance from the patch panel or optical equipment to the corresponding tray. For all connectors used on the pigtails and jumpers the matching connector mating adapters with retainer are available and can be ordered separately (OC-ADK, OC-ADP). The use of a full zirconia connector ferrule is recommended in outside plant conditions. All ferrules are full zirconia except the E2000 centered versions. For detailed technical information, please refer to RUD5291.
