Introduction 1 Introduction This QuickStart manual describes the necessary steps for starting up a SYS TEC controller subassembly in combination with the IEC61131 programming system OpenPCS. The aim of this manual is to enable the first time user to start up all necessary components. More detailed information is available in the individual component manuals. Table 1 gives a list of manuals describing different topics related to IEC61131. The listed manuals are available in electronic format on the OpenPCS Installation CD in the folder Manuals. Topic Control unit hardware, firmware update (general connector layout, electrical data etc.) Implementing the subassembly as a PLC (I/O layout, structure of the process image, user interface elements, operating modes, etc.) Fundamentals of the IEC61131 Programming System OpenPCS Complete description of the IEC61131 Programming System OpenPCS, Fundamentals for PLC programming based on IEC61131 CANopen expansion for IEC61131 (network variables, CANopen functional components) Command overview and description of standard functional components based on IEC61131-3 Text book for PLC programming based on IEC61131-3 Manual Subassembly Hardware Manual (i.e. DIPmodul 164 Hardware Manual) Subassembly Systems Manual (i.e. PLC Chip164 Systems Manual) Introduction to the Programming System (Link "OpenPCS Documentation" in the OpenPCS program group of the Start menu) Programming System User s Manual Software-Manual CANopen expansion for IEC61131-3 Online help for OpenPCS Programming System PLC programming with IEC61131-3 John/Tiegelkamp Springer-Verlag ISBN: 3-540-67752-6 (also available in PDF format on the OpenPCS Installation CD) Table 1: Overview of Recommended Manuals L-1007e_2 SYS TEC electronic GmbH 2004 1

OpenPCS QuickStart Instructions 2 Hardware and Software Installation A PC with MS-Windows 2000 or XP is required to operate the OpenPCS programming system. Follow the subsequent instructions for installation of hard- and software: 2.1 Installing the Hardware Components Follow the steps described below to install all hardware components: Step 1: (Only for control units utilizing CANopen) Switch off your PC and connect the CAN interface to your PC. More detailed instructions on how to do this can be found in the manual to your CAN interface. The following CAN interfaces are supported: - SYS TEC USB-CANmodul (GW-002) - PCAN-Dongle (PK-003 / PK-004) - PCAN-PCI Card (PK-100, PK-101) - PHYTEC pcnet-can (PC-200-x) Note the selected hardware settings for the CAN interface (i.e. base address, IRQ, device number, etc.). These settings will have to be entered later upon installing the software. Start your PC and install the driver for the CAN interface you are using. Be sure that you have selected the correct driver for the operating system. 2 SYS TEC electronic GmbH 2004 L-1007e_2

Hardware and Software Installation Step 2: Put all the removable jumpers in place on your controller subassembly matching the positions shown in the manual. When starting up a Development Kit (i.e. Development Kit PLC Chip164) the jumpers must be positioned on the Development Board as described in the Development Board Hardware Manual. Note: As a general guideline, all controller subassemblies and Development Kits are shipped out pre-configured. However, it is still important to check the settings since SYS TEC takes no responsibility for damage to the product resulting from incorrect configuration! Step 3: Configure the communications parameters on your control unit. With an RS-232 connection the baudrate must be selected. With CANopen the node address and bitrate have to be set. Use the standard settings initially as shown in Table 2. Modul Configuration Settings PLC Chip164 / CANopen (MM-215-Z4, KIT-135) DIP1-DIP4 = OFF DIP5-DIP7 = OFF DIP8 = ON Node Address = 20H Bitrate = 125 kbit/s Start Up Mode PLCmodule-167 / CANopen (phyps-404-z4) S301 = 2, S302 = 0 DIP1-DIP3 = OFF Node Address = 20H Bitrate = 125 kbit/s Table 2: Standard Settings for Communications Parameters L-1007e_2 SYS TEC electronic GmbH 2004 3

OpenPCS QuickStart Instructions Step 4: Connect your PC to the control system to be programmed using an appropriate connecting cable for the interface selected (RS-232 cable or CAN cable). Step 5: Connect the supply voltage for your control unit. If the connection is established properly the Run- and Error-LED on the PLC or on the Development Board will blink quickly at least twice. Depending on the type of control unit and the network protocol being implemented, the blinking may last for more than a few seconds, whereby the blinking pattern may change many times. A CANopen compatible PLC at the node address 20H executes a network scan immediately following a Reset, in order to recognize all the networked nodes. If a valid PLC program is located in the non-volatile memory of the PLC, this program is copied into RAM after a Reset. Depending on the size of the program and the type of non-volatile memory, this process can last up to 20 seconds (LEDs blink to show that process is still active). 4 SYS TEC electronic GmbH 2004 L-1007e_2

Hardware and Software Installation 2.2 Software Installation Step 1: Start the program Setup.exe in the Install/English folder of your OpenPCS installation CD-ROM. Follow the instructions of the installation program. Caution: Do not use any periods in the installation path. Do not use any long paths. If possible use the default path [Hard Drive]\OpenPCS. Step 2: During installation a dialog box with input fields for license information will appear. Please enter the serial number and license code from the license form that was included with the OpenPCS installation CD from SYS TEC. Enter the standard value demo in the fields Serial and Code in the section License (see Figure 1). Be sure to use upper- and lower-case letters correctly when entering the information!
