Overview Vector PC offers full functioning Vector software that can be used with visualizer applications to design and edit your show offline. When connected to eport for DMX-over-Ethernet output, Vector PC can be used to run the show, as a back up console, or configured as a slave console. When used with esynch, Vector PC offers MIDI and SMPTE options. All outboard devices, such as Vector wings and icontrol can be connected via the Ethernet connection. Vector PC software includes online help files that are updated with each software release. Requirements: PC running Windows 2000 or Windows XP Pentium 4 and higher (or equivalent) 150 MB free memory 512 RAM memory Vector PC software Vector PC software includes a number of components: Real-time Components - the RT interface and RT Vector PC Device Builder - A utility for defining device personalities Remote Editor - A utility that allows you to take over editing operations on the console Vector PC - Vector application software main window Vector PC panel - A console panel simulator Figure 1: Vector PC components as seen in the PC s Start menu Program Files Installing Vector PC software If you are upgrading your current Vector PC software make sure to save a backup copy of the Vector Shows folder and any customized devices you have added in the Device Builder. IMPORTANT! If Vector PC is already installed on your computer, uninstall the application before upgrading the software. When Vector PC is running, Real-Time icons appear on the Windows task bar. Mousing over the icons displays the version current number and the PC s IP address. 1

Compulite Vector PC software RT Interface Version # IP = # Vector RT Version # Figure 2: Real-Time icons on the task bar To install Vector PC 1 Download Vector PC software from the Compulite web site, www.compulite.com. 2 Run Vector Setup.###.exe. The installation wizard begins. 3 On the first screen, click NEXT. 4 Read the License Agreement and click YES. 5 On the Information window, click NEXT. 6 On the Setup type window, choose VECTOR PC. 7 Click NEXT until the installation progress bar appears. If you have not selected a different location the Vector PC software is installed in C:\Program Files\Compulite\Vector Pc. Note: Release Notes are included in the software version package. Acrobat Reader is needed to open the Release Notes. 8 When the installation is complete, click FINISH. To run Vector PC Run the Vector PC program from your PC s Start menu Compulite Vector PC or from the desktop shortcut. On start up (assuming you are using one monitor), the Vector main window and the PC panel are displayed. ATTENTION! After upgrading the Vector PC software, run the application and check if your customized System Settings options (operation mode, programming syntax, hardware, etc.) have changed. To shut down Vector PC Click FILE and choose EXIT. Exiting the application shuts down Real-Time interface, RT.exe, gc console, and all open panels. 2

Vector Using Vector PC software Using Vector PC software Programming a show on Vector PC is essentially identical to operating a Vector console. You can configure the main window to suit the single monitor configuration or copy a layout file from the Vector console. 2 4 1 3 5 6 Figure 3: Vector PC panel with Playback Control enabled The Vector panel contains functional representations of: No. Panel control 1 Master display, crossfader, playback controls. This section of the panel can be hidden. See, To enable Application menu options on page 4. 2 Parameter selection and wheel bank keys, wheel displays, parameter wheels. 3 Console panel programming keys and their LEDs. 4 General master and BO (blackout) key. 5 Vertical wheel. 6 Trackball. Under the Application menu, you can: Show or hide a playback wing panel. The playback wing emulates motorized faders. Set the editor panel to Always on Top or to automatically minimized when clicking the display window. Enable or disable keyboard shortcuts for most programming and playback commands. See ASCII equivalents for console keys page 9. Enable playback control - Show or hide the crossfader and the playback controls. 3

Compulite Vector PC software Figure 4: Vector PC panel with Playback Control disabled To enable Application menu options 1 Mouse over the area just below the panel s window title (Vector PC Panel). A hidden menu bar is displayed. 2 Click Application. The Application menu options are displayed. 3 Click to enable the option. Enabled options have a check mark. 4 Clicking again removes the check mark and the option is disabled. Figure 5: Application menu options To use wheels and faders Wheels, trackball, and faders on the Vector PC panel or the Remote Editor are fully functional. 1 Place the mouse pointer on the wheel, trackball or fader. 2 Press and hold down the left mouse button. When clicking a wheel it gets a little larger, so you can see which wheel is active. The wheel remains active until another wheel, trackball, or fader is selected. Note: The mouse s scroll wheel can be used to operate the wheels. Click the wheel first to select it. 3 Move the wheel, trackball or fader in the required direction. 4

Vector Display layouts Display layouts Vector PC assumes there is one monitor connected, therefore only one window is loaded. If there is more than one monitor connected to your PC, you must open new windows on the additional monitors or load your show layout and distribute the show layout screens on your monitors. When working with one monitor you may find it convenient to set the screen resolution to 1280x1024 and load the system layout file named 1Screen 1280 x 1024 Layout.cfg. This layout allows enough room for the Vector PC Panel and the playback wing to appear side by side under the main window display. If the Vector PC panel or playback wing displays are not visible, restore it to its last position by opeing the Window menu and choosing Reset Dialog Position. Remote Editor The Remote Editor utility is included in the Vector PC installation. The Remote Editor allows you to control a console from a remote location. ATTENTION! The Remote Editor and Vector PC Panel cannot work simultaneously. Close the Vector PC Panel before opening the Remote Editor. The Application menu options are: Connect Remote Disconnect Remote Always on Top Keyboard shortcuts Playback control To open and connect the Remote Editor 1 Close the Vector PC Panel. 2 Click your PC s Start menu Compulite Vector PC Remote Editor. 3 Mouse over the area just below the panel s window title (Remote Editor). A hidden menu bar is displayed. 4 Click Application. The Application menu options are displayed. 5 Click Connect Remote. The Choose Console ID dialog box opens. 6 Click the arrow to view ID numbers of the consoles in the network. 5

The conosle s ID number is displayed in the Remote Editor s title bar. Figure 7: Console ID number is displayed in the title bar 8 To disconnect the Remote Editor, open the Application menu and click Disconnect Remote. Device Builder The Device Builder utility is included in the Vector PC installation. Device Builder contains factory defined fixture profiles and you can also create custom definitions. To run Device Builder Click your PC s Start menu Compulite Vector PC Device Builder. Vector PC and output Vector PC can output VC (DMX-over-Ethernet) or ArtNet to run a show. For Vector PC to output ArtNet or more than one VC universe (512 channels), eport converters must be connected. Vector PC outputs only one VC universe (512 channels) if no eport converters are identified. ATTENTION! Art-Net and VC s must be enabled in Tools Settings DMX Protocol. Vector PC and visualizers Vector PC can work with a visualizer installed on the same computer as Vector PC or when the visualizer is installed on another computer on the same network. When the visualizer is installed on the same computer, there is no output limit. When the visualizer is installed on a different computer, the output is limited to one VC universe (512 channels). 6

Vector Connecting Master/Slave with Vector PC Vector PC can be connected to a Vector Red, Blue, Green or Orange console to work in a master/ slave configuration. Requirements: Crossover Ethernet cable or a standard Ethernet cable with a hub. The same software version installed on the Vector console and the Vector PC. Connecting Use a standard Ethernet cable when connecting between the Vector control port and the PC port via a hub. Use a crossover cable when connecting between the Vector data port and PC port. When the cabling is complete, run the Vector PC application. To connect and configure 1 On Vector, check the console s IP address: Tools Communication.
