I. Hardware The BT-2001 is a practical equipment capable for learning both theories and practices for hardware and software protocol for the Bluetooth technology a leader of the high-tech short distance mobile communication technology and was developed to understand the Bluetooth technology for students or company researchers studying information & communication engineering or computer communication and software for communication and to be used as equipment required to develop products applying the Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth education equipment consists of two (2) identical systems so that users can send and receive data and voice via a Bluetooth link. Each system can be operated by a PC for data communication and by headset for voice communication. The RF module equipped in the BT-2001 adopts to the Bluetooth Standard of 1.1 & 1.2 and belongs to a Class 2 of (output power is 0dBm). It enables reliable communications up to 10 meters distance between the master and the slave. 1. Hardware Overview and Functions The BT-2001 mainframe consists of a motherboard and a Bluetooth RF module as shown in Figure 1.1. The RF module includes a CSR BlueCore TM 01(or 02) chip and consists of a front-end filter, LNA, TX/RX switch, flash memory, crystal, and an SMA-typed outer antenna. Also, the motherboard includes UART serial port, SPI, USB, CODEC, power socket, headset socket, and LED. Figure 1.1 BT-2001 Mainframe SMD-BT2-E025a Copyright Man&Tel 2004 Page 3of 10

There are 8 LEDs [P0~P7] located on the top right hand side of the motherboard and each of the functions is shown in the following Table 1.1. This adapter uses AC voltage with an input range of 50~60Hz, 220~240V. Its output power is controlled to 3.3V by u41 regulator IC on motherboard and this voltage is used for power on the motherboard. 2) Reset In the BT-2001, the hardware-typed reset signal can be directly supplied to the Bluetooth RF module. A Hardware reset switch is SW2. Software-typed reset can be run when users use an SPI interface or with a menu (Analysis/edit/Reset) in the practice program. (The Reset function can be moved into another menu due to a change in version) 3) HCI Interface Communication between the Bluetooth HCI controller and the HCI host is achieved through the USB or UART interface. When the Bluetooth RF module is set, the Bluetooth HCI controller can be communicate through UART or USB interface. In using this Interface, it is certain that a single interface cable shall be connected and used, and an unused cable shall be disconnected with the connector. (BC01 is required) 4) UART connection The BT-2001 supplies an interface capable for communication with an HCI controller for Bluetooth module using UART. UART interface can be used to connect the PC with the RF module with a UART serial cable supplied by the CON1 on BT-2001. The signal level is limited only to the DC 3.3V TTL level and consists of 5 signal lines including RX, TX, RTS, CTS, and GND. Here, RX, TX, RTS, CTS, and GND were marked on the basis of the Bluetooth RF module. RX is data directed SMD-BT2-E025a Copyright Man&Tel 2004 Page 4of 10

from the PC to the RF module and, in contrast, the TX is directed from the RF module to the PC. In addition, RTS and CTS are used to control the flow and appropriate communication with Bluetooth devices. 5) USB connection The BT-2001 supplies a USB interface supporting high speed as well as an HCI controller of a Bluetooth RF module. And, the BT-2001 has ideal functions for the USB slave and adopts to USB 1.1 standard. The USB cable should be connected to the USB B Type connector indicated as CON2. Data lines (D+ and D-) can use an interface between the USB and the UART because they use the RTS and CTS signal line of the UART together, respectively, and intercept action from the UART interface automatically, (using USB interface). (For hardware version 1.1 and 1.2) [Some practice equipment using BC01 module cannot often recognize USB due to this problem. In this time, please ask our company for A/S.] 6) SPI connection The BT-2001 can modify the PS value of flash memory included in the Bluetooth RF module and upgrade firmware using the SPI interface. The SPI interface can be connected through the CON3 of a connector indicated in the BT-2001, and can also be connected for the PC with a standard DB25 male connector in the LPT port. SPI interface consists of 4 signal lines including MOSI, MISO, CSB, and CLK. MOSI and MISO are marked on the basis of Bluetooth RF module. Therefore, MOSI is a terminal to send data from the PC to the RF module and, in contrast, MISO is a terminal used to read data of RF module in PC. 7) AUDIO connection Bluetooth devices can communicate voice signals with one another, and supply PCM Codec converting analog voice into digital-type voice and sending the data to Bluetooth mainframe. And, Codec can convert PCM voice information received from the Bluetooth mainframe into an analog voice signal, the converted voice is output through the headset speaker, and the voice to be sent is input using the on the headset. 2. Hardware Installation 1) UART 1) Take out two (2) UART serial cables in the bag for Bluetooth test equipment. Connect the female part of the 9-pin DB connector to two (2) PC COM port (Com1/Com2), and connect the male part of other the 9-pin DB connector of serial cable to UART port (Con1) of the BT- 2001. 2) Connect two (2) headsets(front bag for Bluetooth test equipment) to the HEADSET connection terminal of the BT-2001. 3) When Bluetooth application program and other software are perfectly installed, connect DC adapter. 4) When power is supplied, the LED located on the top right side of the Bluetooth test equipment is operate when the hardware is initialized as follows. (TX: ACL, SCO, UART and RX: ACL, SCO UART LED blink at the same time.) (LED display is refer to this manual page 11) 2) USB 1) Take out two (2) USB cables from the bag for Bluetooth test equipment. Connect 4 pin A-type plugs to two (2) the PC USB ports, and connect other B-type plugs of the USB cable to the USB ports of the BT-2001 respectively. 2) Connect two (2) headsets(front the bag for Bluetooth test equipment) to the HEADSET connection terminal of the BT-2001, respectively. 3) DC adapter should be connected after Bluetooth application programs and other software are perfectly installed. 4) If USB driver is not installed, USB driver should be installed in operating system. (Installation method is shown in Hardware 3. How to Set UBS Driver of this manual.) When USB is operated normally, LED is operates as follows. (TX: TX and RX: RX LED blink and RX: PU, DN LED is lit on continuously.) (When PU is not lit, please use PS Tool program to change) SMD-BT2-E025a Copyright Man&Tel 2004 Page 6of 10

3. How to Set USB Driver Caution!! Before installing the USB driver, please change the Host interface of the BT- 2001 into the USB. (Refer to page 10) If USB driver is not installed, change the settings as follows. 1. First, delete an improperly installed USB driver before connecting USB driver to the equipment. (Click Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager, drivers are displayed as a yellow exclamation mark box left. Among them, detect Other Drivers or Universal Serial Bus Controller and delete drivers marked with yellow box, if any.) 2. If you install a Bluetooth USB driver, you cannot perform the above process. Before starting installation, check whether the BT-2001 equipment is set to USB. For checking settings, run the pstool.exe program and check whether a host interface value in the left items is set to a USB link and whether the USB d+pullup PIO Line value is set to 2. If the values are set correctly, proceed to the next step. If the above process is completed, connect the USB cable to the USB port of the supplied BT- 2001 device and supply power to the BT-2001 equipment. 3. If power is supplied to the BT-2001 equipment, the operating system recognizes the USB device automatically with the PnP function and displays the following message in the screen. If the operating system has no PnP function, click Control Panel/Add New Hardware to add a USB driver. Select SMD-BT2-E025a Copyright Man&Tel 2004 Page 7of 10

Select the second item, Installation in list and specific location (Advanced) in the above screen and click the Next button. 4. In a question box asking the directory a driver is located, select The following location included in searching and click Browse to designate the USB driver v1.17 directory in the supplied program CD. (If you do not receive a program CD after Jun. 2, 2002, download two (2) files named csrbc01 in the data bank of our homepage and proceed with installation. (For BC02) But, if you use a BC01 version module, please use the USB drive for BC01 included in CD-ROM.) 5. If directory designation is completed, click the Next button. The following screen is then displayed. You can ignore and pass this warning screen. (This screen is displayed only in WinXP.) SMD-BT2-E025a Copyright Man&Tel 2004 Page 8of 10

Click the Continue button, and proceed with the USB driver installation. 6. If the installation is complete, the following screen is displayed. If you use a Samsung module, a driver name is displayed as Samsung module with CSR BlueCore Bluetooth ; if you use an LG module, LG module with CSR BlueCore Bluetooth is displayed. After installation is complete, click Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager. If the newly installed USB driver is displayed in Universal Serial Bus Controller item, installation of the USB driver is completed. The following figure shows installation with an LG module. If you use a Samsung module, Samsung module with CSR BlueCore Bluetooth is displayed in driver name according to the above mentioned. SMD-BT2-E025a Copyright Man&Tel 2004 Page 9of 10
