Safety Please follow the below safety precautions. If there are any questions, please call FAWCETT at 330 659-4187. Please read this complete manual before trying to operate your disperserer. Failure to follow these instructions could result in serious bodily injury or death. Do not touch moving parts while disperser is operating. Do not wear loose-fitting clothes or jewelry around an operating disperser. Keep all hands, feet, clothes, neckties, necklaces and other objects clear of moving parts. Never move the unit with the motor running. Never run the unit in open air. Never adjust the speed without the unit running. WARNING: THIS MOTOR IS NOTEXPLOSION PROOF!! Use only around non-flammable materials, or where adequate ventilation exists, such as in a fume hood, to draw off flammable vapors WARNINGS: Always unplug the machine prior to changing the blade DO NOT wear loose clothing or long hair around rotating machinery. For example: it would only take.03 seconds to wrap 18 of hair or a loose necktie around the shaft when the machine is operating at full speed!!! Receiving: Before removing any packing, visually inspect the exterior of the shipment for any sign of damage. Should there be any damage, bring it to the attention of the delivering UPS or truck line and note the same on the receiving ticket. Should there be damage you must place a claim with the truck line. They are the only ones who will pay for the damage done and you are the only one who can place that claim. FAWCETT, Inc. LS manual 6/15/2006 page 3 of 7
Installation Your new disperser is supplied partially assembled. For more information, see the parts list pages for general arrangement drawings. Dispersers: To install the disperser blade, remove one of the jam nuts. Insert the disperser blade onto the shaft. Assemble and tighten the second jam nut firmly to secure the disperser blade to the shaft. Disperser Blade Placement: Experimenting with disperser blade placement may provide your best results. Assembly: STEP #1: Install the container holder, onto the bottom of the support.install short end (below collar) of 36 long aluminum support rod into base and tighten set screw in base securely using supplied allen wrench. STEP #2: Slide motor and support clamp assembly onto support rod until shaft collar is reached. STEP #3: Slide dispersion shaft into the ½ chuck and tighten with supplied key. Tighten securely so the shaft cannot work loose. STEP #4: If necessary, reposition motor stop collar on support rod to correct minimum operating height. STEP #5: Plug motor cord into variable speed controller. DO NOT plug motor directly into wall power outlet. STEP #6: Making sure variable speed controller is OFF, and speed control is set to ZERO, plug controller into a 110 VAC wall outlet. STEP #7: Install disperser blade on to end of the dispersion shaft between the supplied jam nuts. STEP #8: Verify motor support clamp has been tightened to support bar. Unit is now ready to operate. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Note: Periodically check dispersion shaft chuck for tightness prior to starting Machine. Trial and error will determine the best height position for the dispersion impeller, which will depend on the mixing container size you are using, but as a rule of thumb, the impeller should be no closer than 1 to the bottom of the mix container, and optimally should be about 1½ times the blade diameter in height off the bottom. For example, if the impeller diameter is 2, the blade will work best about 3 off the bottom. Always start and stop the machine in low speed. Turning on the machine at higher speeds is not recommended, as it may damage the motor, or more likely, the sudden start will sling the material being mixed. Optimum operating speed is viscosity dependent. The more viscous the material is, the slower the machine needs to run to achieve dispersion speed. For example, a 5000 CPS paint base may need 4500-5000 FPM impeller peripheral tip speed to achieve dispersion; a less viscous material may need higher tip speed. You may run up to a 3 diameter impeller on this machine. Larger diameter impellers may damage the motor. Peripheral tip speed may be calculated with the following equation: (IMPELLER DIAMETER in inches) x (.262) x (RPM) = Tip speed in Feet Per Minute (FPM). Thus, for a 2 diameter impeller, 10,000 RPM = 5240 FPM and 5000 RPM 2620 FPM Note: This air cooled motor can get HOT, especially if run at lower speeds under heavy load. Always be cautious when grasping motor to raise it Thank you for purchasing a Fawcett mixer. www.fawcettco.com 1FAWCETT, Inc. LS manual 03/06 Page 6 of 7
