WORLD LEADER IN ELECTRONIC SECURITY Upgrade Instructions View Manager 96 v. 5.0 1 Software Upgrade This software permits you to upgrade your VM96 version 3.x or 4.x system to the latest version of VM96 software. It also allows you to update Touch Trackers used with VM96 version 3.x for use with the new software. Use the following guidelines when planning your upgrade: When upgrading from VM96 v. 4.x, allow for 15 to 20 minutes. When upgrading from VM96 v. 3.x, the time varies depending on the number of Touch Trackers to upgrade. If there are only two Touch Trackers installed, allow for 45 to 50 minutes. If there are three or more Touch Trackers installed, add 10 minutes for each additional Touch Tracker. The total upgrade time should take no more than 90 minutes if no problems occur. After you upgrade to V5.0, the displayed date may be February 2036. You will need to perform the Setting the System Date and Time procedure found on page 6. This problem occurs because older versions of VM96 were not Year 2000 compliant. Before you begin Before performing this upgrade, you should backup your programmed data such as passwords, activities, views, patterns, sequences, and zones. If your diskette drive has not been used recently, you may need to attempt this procedure multiple times. Because dust may have accumulated inside the drive, two blank programming diskettes have been included in the kit for this purpose. Use one programming diskette to determine if the backup procedure will work successfully. This first diskette cleans the drive. If the first diskette fails on two attempts, try the same procedure with the second blank programming diskette. If the backup fails with the second diskette, contact your local Sensormatic service organization to schedule a service call. To backup this information, do the following: 1. Start the Administrator Menu by pressing the Space Bar or entering the password. 2. From the Administrator Menu, press and hold Alt+U to select Utilities, then select Save Programming and press ENTER. When prompted, select Continue to start the backup procedure. The system displays the following prompt: Insert Destination Programming Diskette Number: 1 -< Return to Continue >- NOTE: The Destination Programming Diskette is the floppy diskette where the user-programmed data will be stored. 3. Insert the blank diskette into the diskette drive, and then press ENTER. When the system completes writing data to the Destination Programming Diskette, the following prompt is displayed: Remove the Programming Diskette. -< Return to Continue >- At this point, you may be prompted to insert additional Destination Programming Diskettes, depending on the amount of data to be saved. If this is the case, follow the system prompts for as many blank diskettes as are required. 4. Remove the diskette from the diskette drive, and then press ENTER. The system displays the following prompt: Database SAVED Successfully. -< Return to Continue >- NOTE: If the database was not saved successfully, the system will display a message indicating this. Press ENTER, and repeat this procedure. Otherwise, press ENTER to clear the display. 5. On the floppy diskette(s), write protect the diskette and write the date you saved the data. You could also write what kind of data is saved on the diskette, for example views, zones, and activities. NOTE: Do not press too hard when writing on the label. Damage may occur to the data saved on the diskette. Once your programmed data is saved, you may continue with the software upgrade. If the backup procedure fails three or more times, contact your local Sensormatic service organization to schedule a service call. 8000-0840-05, Rev. B - (7 pages) SENSORVISION PRODUCTS 1 (BSL-1/2000)

Software Upgrade Note: If the Administrator Menu is not currently displayed, refer to steps 1 and 2 in Before you begin Continue with the following when you are ready to start the software upgrade. 1. Insert upgrade diskette 1 into the diskette drive. 2. Press U to select Shutdown, then press ENTER. When prompted, select Continue to shutdown the system. Updating Touch Trackers Used with VM96 Version 3.x There are two types of Touch Trackers that may have been installed with VM96 version 3.x systems: Dual Version Touch Trackers Version 3 Touch Trackers After installing the VM96 version 5 software, the system automatically checks for the presence of dual version Touch Trackers and version 3 Touch Trackers. Once the Touch Tracker types are identified, you will be prompted to update the Touch Trackers. If you have dual version Touch Trackers installed, continue with Updating Dual Version Touch Trackers. If you have only version 3.x Touch Trackers, continue with Automatically Updating Version 3 Touch Trackers. Note: All Touch Trackers must be configured to the correct operating level before they can be used with the VM96 version 5 software. For version 3.x Touch Trackers, there are two methods for updating the Touch Trackers: automatic update or manual update. The automatic update occurs as part of the restart process. You should attempt the automatic update for each version 3 Touch Tracker. If the automatic update fails for any Touch Tracker, contact your local Sensormatic service organization to schedule a service call. 8000-0840-05, REV. B UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS 3

Updating Dual Version Touch Trackers Note: To identify the address of the Touch Tracker, look at the LCD. The address appears in the upper right corner: Cam A1 Mon In this example, the number following the letter "A" represents the address number. Some Touch Trackers may display the address following the letter "r". 1. If you have dual version Touch Trackers, the following message appears on the screen: Touch Tracker(s): x, x, x are "dual version" Touch Trackers. On each of these Touch Trackers, you will need to: Disconnect the RJ-45 connector in the back of the Touch Tracker. Press and hold down the 4 button on the Touch Tracker. Do NOT disconnect any Touch Trackers during the software upgrade. < Press Enter to Continue.> Note: The address for each Touch Tracker requiring the upgrade appears on line 1. Make note of these addresses. If the automatic download fails, you will need the device addresses when contacting technical support. 2. Press ENTER to continue. The following message appears on the screen: Upgrading Touch Tracker: x Press <Enter> to start the upgrade. If you need to halt the upgrade, press <Esc><Esc> Pressing <Enter> to upgrade the Touch Tracker now is highly recommended. At this point, you may choose to stop the upgrade. Why would you want to stop the upgrade? You have already switched one or more dual version Touch Trackers to V4 mode and an incident has occurred where the system is required immediately. A Touch Tracker that initially passed the communications test (Diskette 1) fails during the automatic download. If this occurs, you may want to stop the automatic download process, install the old software (if available), and operate the system at the lower software level. The majority of the Touch Trackers are dual version units. The system can be operated with these Touch Trackers. You will need to manually download the Touch Trackers at a later time.
