System Requirements The system environment requirements for using Desktop are as follows: Hardware Computer Use devices that meet the following criteria: Required Recommended Computer Compatible with Windows 7 Compatible with Windows 7 CPU Memory Core 2 Duo or faster 2 GHz or more 1 GB or more For Windows 7 64-bit Edition / Windows 8 64-bit Edition / Windows 8.1 64-bit Edition: 2 GB or more Core i5 or faster 2 GHz or more 4 GB or more Available Hard Disk Space 4 GB or more 4 GB or more Display Resolution XGA or higher resolution SXGA, WXGA or higher resolution The following hard disk space is also required. --Library data storage space --Database storage space for document management (when registering a network library (database)) When handling documents with many pages or documents with many color pages, use a computer with a CPU and memory higher than recommended above. Supported Devices Contact your local authorized Canon dealer about the devices that support Desktop. 1-2 System Requirements

Software Supported OS You need any one of the following Windows OSs in your computer when installing Desktop. Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 2 (32-bit) Windows Vista Business Service Pack 2 (32-bit) Windows Vista Enterprise Service Pack 2 (32-bit) Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 (32-bit/64-bit) Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 (32-bit/64-bit) Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 (32-bit/64-bit) Windows 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1 (32-bit/64-bit) Windows 8 (32-bit/64-bit) Windows 8 Pro (32-bit/64-bit) Windows 8 Enterprise (32-bit/64-bit) Windows 8.1 Update or without Update (32-bit/64-bit) Windows 8.1 Pro Update or without Update (32-bit/64-bit) Windows 8.1 Enterprise Update or without Update (32-bit/64-bit) IMPORTANT When Desktop is started by selecting [Run as administrator] in Windows, the Desktop operations are not guaranteed. In Windows 8/Windows 8.1, Desktop can only be operated on the desktop. Windows To Go is not supported. The Encrypting File System (EFS) is not supported. If using IPv6 environment, the Desktop operations are not guaranteed. If a character code other than ASCII is used for the computer name, you cannot monitor print/ fax transmission jobs. Web Browser Your computer requires the following Web browser to perform license authentication for Desktop and view the User s Guide. Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 7.0/8.0/9.0/10.0/11.0 Printer Driver/Fax Driver/Scanner Driver Install the latest Canon printer driver, fax driver, and scanner driver that are supported by your device. Installing Desktop does not install any printer driver, fax driver, and scanner driver. You need to install them separately. Set [Spooling at Host] on the [Device Settings] sheet of the printer driver properties to [Auto] or [Enabled]. For the drivers supported by each model, contact your local authorized Canon dealer. System Requirements 1-3

Recommended Software Windows Search 4.0 Installed with supported operating systems by default. To perform full text searches with Desktop, the Windows Search service must be enabled if it is disabled. For comfortable operation of Windows Search 4.0, use a computer with higher specifications than those recommended.»» Hardware (p. 1-2) Acrobat 9 or later/adobe Reader (latest version) You can perform a full-text search for PDF documents and IWB documents (*.iwb). However, to perform full-text searches for 64-bit operating system environments, you must obtain the 64-bit version of IFilter from the website of Adobe Systems Incorporated and install it. Microsoft Office --Office 2007 or later is required to convert Office documents (Word documents, Excel documents, and PowerPoint documents) to PDF files or import them by dragging and dropping them to Desktop Editor. --Outlook 2007 or later is required to directly import MSG documents (*.msg) to Desktop Editor. To use the Desktop Office Toolbar, Microsoft Office 2007/2010 and [Office Shared Features] - [Visual Basic for Applications] must be installed.»» Enabling the Desktop Office Toolbar (p. 1-19) To use database with Desktop Editor or import address books using Excel or CSV files, Microsoft Office 2007 or later must be installed. --If Microsoft Office 2007 or later is not installed, you can install Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable from the Desktop Installation Media disc. --If Microsoft Office 2013 is installed, it may be necessary to install Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable, depending on your environment. For information on installing Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable, see the following.»» Enabling the Database Link Function (p. 1-21) Terminal Server (Service)/Desktop Virtualization Environment Support Since Desktop does not support terminal servers (service) and desktop virtualization environments, the central application management and multi-user function are not available in network environments. 1-4 System Requirements

Desktop Installation The following components are installed when you install Desktop. Desktop Browser Printer Monitor Quick Printing Tool Document Monitor Desktop Editor The following programs are also installed at the same time. Desktop Document Writer Desktop Monitor Setup System Information Viewer Import & Export Tool Flow of Desktop Installation The installation of Desktop is performed in the following order. The following programs required for using Desktop are installed automatically during the installation of Desktop. --Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable --.NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile --.NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile Language Pack --SPS Library --License Information Management 1. Selecting the Installation Language 2. Confirming the License Agreement 3. Selecting the Installation Location (Folder) 4. Selecting Whether to Install the User s Guide 5. Starting Installation 6. License Authentication 7. Confirming the Completed Installation 8. Preparation for Using the Full-Text Search Function Desktop Installation 1-5

Installing Desktop When using Desktop for the first time, follow the procedure below to install it. IMPORTANT If you are using commercial firewall software, register the following applications in the firewall exceptions list after installing Desktop. For information on registering programs to the exceptions list, see the manual for your firewall software. Executable Files to Register (Default Installation Path) Desktop Browser C:\Program Files\Canon\iW360\iW DT\iWDT.Browser.MainBrowser.exe Printer Monitor C:\Program Files\Canon\iW360\iW DT\iWDT.TaskTray.PrinterMonitor.exe If Encrypting File System (EFS) is used in the installation destination folder or another folder used by Desktop, the operations of Desktop are not guaranteed. Do not install Desktop while Windows Update is running on your computer. Install Desktop after confirming that the Windows Update is complete. Also, do not execute Windows Update while installing Desktop. 1. Start Windows and log in to the system as a user with Administrator privileges. 2. Insert the Desktop Installation Media disc into the disc drive. Desktop Setup Wizard is started. If the Desktop Setup Wizard does not start, double-click the file indicated below that corresponds to your operating system. --For 32-bit operating systems: setup.exe in the 32bit folder of Desktop Installation Media --For 64-bit operating systems: setup.exe in the 64bit folder of Desktop Installation Media 1-6 Desktop Installation

3. Select the display language of Desktop to install from the pull-down list. Installation screens are displayed in the selected language for subsequent steps. 4. Confirm the content of the license agreement, select [I accept the terms in the license agreement], and click [Next] to accept. 5. Confirm the displayed message and click [Next]. Click [Cancel] to cancel the installation. Desktop Installation 1-7

6. Confirm the folder to install to and click [Next]. To change the folder to install to Click [Browse]. Specify the folder to install to and click [OK]. A network drive or removable disk cannot be specified as the folder to install to. If the installation folder has already been created, a message is displayed to notify you that the entire content of the folder will be deleted before starting the installation. 7. To install the User s Guide at the same time as Desktop, select the [Install manuals] check box and click [Next]. To install the User s Guide after installing Desktop, use Modifying Desktop.»» Modifying and Repairing Desktop (p. 2-2) 1-8 Desktop Installation

8. Confirm the displayed message and click [Start]. The installation of the program starts. If you click this, the [License Authentication] dialog box is displayed. Desktop Installation 1-9

A dialog box prompting you to stop applications during the installation may be displayed, depending on your environment. Follow the displayed message to proceed with the Desktop installation. The following programs are required to use Desktop. --Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable --.NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile --.NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile Language Pack --SPS Library --License Information Management If these programs are not installed, the following screen is displayed and they are automatically installed. If.NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile and.net Framework 4.0 Client Profile Language Pack are not installed, a screen different from the one above is displayed and they are automatically installed. When the required programs have been installed, these screens automatically close and the Desktop installation continues. 1-10 Desktop Installation

If an upgrade patch is included, the following screen is displayed and the patch is installed automatically. 9. Select [Authenticate License Now] and click [Next]. The license authentication wizard is displayed. Follow the instructions in the wizard to perform license authentication. For more information, see Software License Registration Guide. To install Desktop with a trial license, select [Authenticate License Later] and click [Next].»» Desktop Licenses (p. 1-15) Desktop Installation 1-11

10. When the required settings are complete, click [Exit]. Select the [Open Startup Guide] check box and click [Exit] to display the Startup Guide when the installation is complete. IMPORTANT After installing this product, execute Windows Update to update your computer. The [Open Startup Guide] check box is not displayed in the following cases: --If Internet Explorer is disabled in your environment --If a restart is required after the installation is complete The Startup Guide is displayed in the language selected in step 3. If the following screen is displayed after installing this product, confirm the message and click [OK]. After installing this product, shortcuts to start Desktop and Desktop Editor are automatically created on the [Desktop] screen of Windows. You may be prompted to restart your computer during the installation or after the installation is complete, depending on your environment. If the computer is restarted during installation, by logging in as a user with Administrator privileges after the restart, you can continue the installation. 1-12 Desktop Installation

Upgrading a Desktop Installation Even if an older version of Desktop is installed, you can perform an upgrade installation by following the same procedure as with a regular installation. When you perform an upgrade installation, the older version of Desktop is automatically deleted before the installation. If the following screen is displayed, confirm the message and click [Yes]. If the older version of Desktop is running when performing the upgrade installation, it will be automatically closed. Install Desktop after confirming that the Windows Update is complete. Also, do not execute Windows Update while installing Desktop. Information set in the older version can be carried over after performing an upgrade installation.»» Carrying Over Settings from the Older Version (p. 1-14) Libraries set in the older version can also be carried over after performing an upgrade installation. Manually uninstall Desktop before the upgrade, depending on your computer environment. For printers/faxes to which an application-enabled ports were assigned in the older version, Quick Printing Tool is created after performing an upgrade installation. After upgrading, annotations added using Desktop V2.0.1 or earlier cannot be displayed in Desktop. When using documents with such annotations added, perform annotation conversion with the Annotation Convert Tool. For more information, see the Administrator Guide. Desktop Installation 1-13

Carrying Over Settings from the Older Version Information set in the older version can be carried over to this version after performing an upgrade installation. The basic information (libraries, registered documents, registered stamped images, etc.) set in the older version can be carried over to this version. However, some Desktop Browser settings cannot be carried over. Specify the settings that cannot be carried over in Desktop Browser again. The following settings cannot be carried over. The screen size of each main screen and the display/hide status of each window, etc. Display format, column order, and column width in the File List View Window The [Do not use the indexes created for search when searching (might be slow)] check box setting of the Search screen. As this version does not use an application-enabled port, when an application-enabled port is used, it is converted to a standard TCP/IP port. If the port information settings are not carried over, it is necessary to set them again in Desktop Monitor Setup. For more information, see the User s Guide. Carrying Over Settings The settings of the older version are carried over when one of the Desktop Browser, Desktop Editor, Printer Monitor (old version of Desktop Monitor), or Document Monitor (old version of Desktop Monitor) is started after performing the upgrade installation. This section describes an example using Desktop Browser. 1. Select the [Start] menu > [All Programs] > [Canon iw] > [iw Desktop] > [iw Desktop]. The settings are carried over with all modules. If you are using Windows 8/Windows 8.1, select [iw Desktop] from the [Start] screen or [Desktop] screen. 2. Desktop Licenses In order to use Desktop, you must perform License Authentication. There are the following two types of licenses. Full license A license that enables you to continuously use Desktop without restriction. You only need to perform License Authentication once. Trial license A license with a limited trial period. Has no restrictions except for the limited trial period. Whenever you start Desktop, the [License Authentication] screen is displayed and the number of days remaining is displayed on the screen. When the trial period elapses, you cannot use Desktop. To continue using Desktop, start Desktop Browser to display the authentication screen and perform authentication with a full license (Desktop Browser cannot be used after the trial period has elapsed, but it can be started to display the authentication screen). The trial period can be confirmed with the following procedure. 1.Right-click Quick Printing Tool and select [Check License]. 2. Confirm the trial period in the displayed dialog box. You can display the page for purchasing Desktop from a dealer from the link displayed in the dialog box. By performing authentication with a full license during the trial period or after the trial period has elapsed, you can continue to use Desktop without restriction. Even after the trial period has elapsed, you can continue to use some functions of the Quick Printing Tool. Preparation for Using the Full-Text Search Function With Desktop, you can use a full-text search function. Preparations are required to use the full-text search function of Desktop. Configure the required settings according to your environment. Registering a Folder to Windows Search With Desktop, Windows Search is used for full-text searches. Register the library folders to search to Windows Search. Windows Search is installed in Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8/Windows 8.1 by default, but it is recommended that you update Windows Search to the latest version. 1. Installing IFilter Desktop uses IFilter for full-text searches of application documents such as PDF documents. Install the IFilter corresponding to each application document format, as necessary. PDF documents: The IFilter for PDF files is required. IWB documents: The IFilter for IWB documents and the IFilter for PDF documents are required. IFilter for PDF Files The IFilter for PDF files is included with Acrobat 9 or later, or the latest version of Adobe Reader. It is automatically installed when you install Acrobat 9 or later or the latest version of Adobe Reader. To perform full-text searches for 64-bit operating system environments, obtain and install the 64-bit version of IFilter from the Adobe Systems Inc. website. The latest version of Adobe Reader can be downloaded from the Adobe Systems Inc. website. Enabling the Desktop Office Toolbar Desktop can display the Desktop Office Toolbar as an add-in in the toolbar of Microsoft Office applications (Word/Excel/PowerPoint). Enabling the Desktop Office Toolbar allows seamless linking with Microsoft Office applications. IMPORTANT Microsoft Office 2007/2010/2013 and [Office Shared Features] - [Visual Basic for Applications] must be installed in order to use the Desktop Office Toolbar. For more information on Desktop Office Toolbar, see User s Guide. The [System Settings] dialog box can be displayed from the Desktop Browser and Desktop Editor modules, and the Document Monitor icon on the Taskbar. This section uses the procedure from Desktop Browser as an example. 1. Select the [Start] menu > [All Programs] > [Canon iw] > [iw Desktop] > [iw Desktop]. Desktop Browser is started. Enabling the Database Link Function To use the database with Desktop Editor or to use an Excel or CSV file to read the address book, one of the following applications must already be installed in addition to Desktop. Microsoft Office 2007 or later Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable (included with Desktop Installation Media ) The following describes how to install Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable from Desktop Installation Media when the version of Microsoft Office in use is not 2007 or later. When using Microsoft Office 2007 or later, the procedure indicated here is not required. However, if you are using Microsoft Office 2013, it may be necessary to install Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable, depending on your environment. The Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable Installer in the Desktop Installation Media is displayed in English. 1. Start Windows and log in to the system as a user with Administrator privileges. 2. Insert the Desktop Installation Media disc into the disc drive. Close the window if the Desktop Setup Wizard is displayed. 3. Run AccessDatabaseEngine.exe in the AccessDBEngine folder. List of Error Messages This section describes the error messages that are displayed by the installer. If other messages are displayed, follow the instructions in the message. Cannot specify a network path as the destination folder. Cannot specify a removable disk as the destination folder. Remedy Select a folder on a local disk drive for the folder to install to. The destination folder cannot contain any of the following characters: ~! @ % ^ & { } [ ] - + =, ; * >? / Tab code Remedy Do not use the following characters in the folder to install to: ~! @ % ^ & { } [ ] - + =, ; * < >? / tab codes Specify the path to the destination folder with single-byte characters. Remedy Specify the path to the folder to install to using single-byte characters. The path to the installer folder is too long. Restrictions When installing to a USB device, a device that is recognized as a location that guarantees startup, such as a local disk, can be specified. However, the operation is not supported. The installation may not be able to be performed correctly if a folder in which another application is installed or the System folder of Windows is specified as the folder to install to. Support is not provided for the operations in this case. The operations and display when another user logs in and starts an application that affects the processing of the Desktop installer are not guaranteed. A check while Windows Update is running is only performed when the installer is started. If Windows Update is detected to be running when the Desktop installer is started, the installer process is paused. Support is not provided for operations or behavior when Windows Update is executed after the installer is started. The Desktop installer creates a restore point for the Windows operating system environment before performing an installation or uninstallation process, but even if the system restore is executed, the system will not return to the state before the installation or uninstallation process was performed. Support is not provided for system restores using a created restore point. Even if creation of a restore point fails due to insufficient disk space, etc., the installation or uninstallation process continues. The process may also be paused due to the operation of other software, such as a function of Windows or a dialog box being displayed. Perform the process after exiting the other software. Desktop cannot be installed in a computer in which the following software is installed. When installing Desktop, uninstall the following software. --Canon Output Manager Service --NetSpot Job Monitor If you want to use another language version of Desktop, uninstall the Desktop that is currently being used, and install the language version of Desktop that you want to use. If you perform an installation as a local user and then start Desktop as a domain user, the clock of the domain controller is applied to the clock of the computer for environment migration. This type of clock setting change is recognized as an error. Therefore, to use Desktop as a domain user, it is necessary to log in and install it as a domain user. To install it as a domain user, confirm that the clock of the domain controller matches the clock of the computer. Since the time is recorded during the initial installation, this problem cannot be resolved by reinstalling. If this kind of error occurs, contact your local authorized Canon dealer. 4-4 Restrictions

Glossary Desktop Browser The main window of Desktop, used for document management and linking with devices and external applications. Desktop Document Writer Software for converting documents created in other applications to the IWB format. Desktop Monitor Setup Software for retrieving and managing device information in Desktop. Desktop Editor An editor to put together document printing settings, and various documents in a IWB format, to create one document. It can accommodate a variety of purposes from adding text and shapes, to editing layouts, as well as creating multiple documents from one document in a database after replacing selected information such as addresses and recipients. Document Monitor A module that has functions for displaying notifications in the task tray when a new document or updated document is placed in a monitored folder and functions for transferring documents. IFilter An extension component used for full-text searching of documents. Installing an IFilter enables you to expand the type of documents that can be searched. The IFilter for IWB documents is automatically installed when Desktop is installed. The IFilter for PDF files is automatically installed when Acrobat 9 or later, or the latest version of Adobe Reader is installed in your computer. Import & Export Tool An administrator utility for importing/exporting the user settings of Desktop. Printer Monitor A module that displays the status of external devices such as imagerunner ADVANCE devices, print status, and the status of sending and receiving faxes in the Taskbar.
