PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Dear Members, Time really flies and soon 2012 will be over and we will be welcoming the New Year 2013. ISACA Malaysia Chapter has kick started the year end celebration by having the James Bond movie night on 1 st November 2012 and will be followed by the year end celebration night on 30 th November 2012. We had a good turnout for the movie night and stay tune for further announcement on the year end celebration. In line with International s direction to promote certifications, we organized the ISACA Certification Evening Talk on 26 th September 2012 at Sime Darby Convention Center and 43 members attended the event. With regard to training events, the Chapter organized one day training on Introduction to Wireless Security on 20 th September 2012. Our next training event is Introduction to Penetration Testing scheduled on 6 th and 7 th November 2012 and I am very happy to say the response has been great and we have another full house turnout. This is the second time within the year we are organizing the Penetration Testing workshop as we had a full house turnout for the first workshop which was conducted in June 2012. We believe it is a hot training topic as participants can experience the whole process of hacking from the external into the internal corporate network. The Chapter will also be running the COBIT Workshop Introduction, Implementation and Migration to COBIT 5 and it will be conducted on 9 th and 10 th January 2013 at Iverson (Centrepoint). The initial dates for the COBIT workshop were in November 2012 but due to unforeseen circumstances, we have rescheduled it to January 2013. Registration is open for this workshop and the brochure can be downloaded from www.isaca.org/malaysia On membership, I am pleased to announce that the local Chapter has hit the 700 mark and as at to date we have 710 members. The membership growth and renewal have been encouraging in the last 3 years. I hope all of you will continue to renew your membership for 2013 and also encourage your colleagues, friends and staff to join ISACA. ISACA MALAYSIA CHAPTER With regard to updates from International, I believe all members have been notified via email from International on the IS Audit and Assurance Standards Exposure Draft. I understand the revamp is rather significant and an in depth review and revision has been done. As such, the Chapter would like to encourage members to review the exposure draft and submit comments. I am also pleased to announce that our member, Mr. Murari Kalyanaramani represents the Chapter on the Professional Standards Committee. Links to the exposure draft and questionnaire are posted on the ISACA web site at www.isaca.org/standardexposure. Finally, do not forget to watch out for the announcement for the year end celebration event planned on 30 th November 2012 and register early as places are limited. S. IT GOVERNANCE, ASSURANCE AND SECURITY CONFERENCE 2012 (JULY 10-11, 2012) Recently, ISACA and MNCC concluded our 11th annual IT Governance Conference at the One World Hotel, Bandar Utama, Selangor. More than 100 participants attended the 2 days conference Day 1 being presentation of various current topics by our invited speakers, and Day 2 Management and Technical master classes by subject matter experts. Our speakers on Day 1 presented various current and interesting topics such as an MNC s security environment perspective, cloud and mobile computing security, and SAP implementation audit considerations. The day ended with an informative panel discussion consisting of our speakers. Day 2 included 4 master classes, which touched on new techniques and concepts for COBIT and PDPA (Management tracks); and Virtualisation and Penetration Testing (Technical tracks). The Conference, not only, has updated the knowledge of the participants and enables them to gain further understanding of the various presented topics the Conference has also provided a good avenue for the participants to network with other similar minded participants. In addition, gaining new knowledge and information is not only through attending the seminar but also from visiting booths set up by the sponsors at the Conference, presenting the latest commercially available information and technology. Do not worry if you missed out on this event as the Conference Committee has begun planning for the 2013 edition. Watch out for more news in coming communications.
