On your display computer (usually located in the cable headend), it is only necessary to install the Channel4 program, and the FileZilla FTP server. Insert your Channel 4 CD. The default installation parameters are recommended. Return to the option list, and select install FTP Server. If you do not see the option list, open the folder entitled ftp in the installation CD and run filezilla_setup.exe. The default installation parameters are recommended. When the filezilla installation is complete, the FileZilla Server Interface should launch automatically. If the FileZilla Server Interface does not appear, it can be accessed by clicking on the FileZilla icon on the desktop, or by clicking on the FileZilla icon on the start menu. When prompted for an IP address, accept 127.0.0.1. Leave the password field blank. Open the edit menu, and click on users. Add a user by clicking the Add button on the right side of the screen. The user name you specify will be required to update the community channel. Add a password to the new account by checking the Password checkbox, and entering the desired password in the text box. This password will also be required to update the community channel. On the left side of the screen, click on Shared Folders. Click the Add button, and select C:/ as the shared folder. Make sure that this folder is designated as the home directory.

In order to ensure the system remains stable, it is recommended that the display computer be rebooted periodically. To do this, open the control panel on the display computer. Click on performance and maintenance, and then scheduled tasks. Create a new task by clicking on the File menu, and selecting New! Scheduled Task. Once the task has been created, open the task by double-clicking on it. Under the Task tab, in the Run field, type shutdown r t 00.

Next, open the Schedule tab. Select the time of day, and frequency at which you would like the system to restart. At least once a week, sometime in the middle of the night is recommended. 3) Internet Configuration (This document assumes that a broadband Internet connection is being used.) Connect the display computer to the Internet by plugging one end of a standard Ethernet cable to your computer s network card, and the other end into your router, switch, or modem. If the display computer is running a firewall (hardware or software), ports 20 and 21 must be opened. This can be done by accessing your firewall configuration page. If the display computer is located on a LAN (Local Area Network), the router must be configured for port forwarding. Log on to the router s configuration page, and forward ports 20 and 21 to the private IP of the display computer. (The private IP can be found by opening a command prompt (run! cmd), and typing ipconfig.

4) Weather Equipment installation Note: If you have not purchased the weather system add on, you may skip this step. The only weather station that will work with Channel 4 is the Ultimeter 800, made by Peet Bros. Follow the installation instructions included with the Ultimeter 800 weather station. Once the weather station has been properly installed, configure the station for data logging mode. For instructions on how to do this, consult the weather station user manual. Connect the weather station to the computer using the RS232 serial data cable included with the weather station. Connect it to the port designated as COM1. Creating a Program Channel 4 programs are creating using Microsoft PowerPoint. These programs may be created on any computer, provided that this computer has both MS PowerPoint and Uploader program installed, and an Internet connection. To create a new program, open a blank PowerPoint presentation. Add a new slide; it is recommended that the user make use of one of the templates included on the installation CD. The user may create as many slides as he/she likes, and may embed pictures, sound, and video files into his/her presentation. It is important to leave the shaded bar at the bottom of each slide empty. This is where the time, date, and weather information will be displayed. When finished creating the program, save the PowerPoint file as C:\current_presentation.ppt. To edit an existing program, open the presentation you wish to edit in Microsoft PowerPoint. Remember to save your changes! If the presentation you wish to update is currently running on the display machine, and a copy has not been saved on the uploading machine, the program must first be downloaded from the display machine. Click on the start menu, and browse to Program files! Uploader and click on Uploader. Once the program has started, click the download current presentation button. PowerPoint file can be quite large, and file download may take a minute. Once the file has been downloaded, click the Open Current Presentation button. This will open the presentation you just downloaded in Microsoft PowerPoint. Once the necessary changes have been made, save the presentation and close MS PowerPoint.

Next, the new presentation must be uploaded to the display computer. Uploading a Program Once you have created your Channel 4 program, it must be uploaded to the display computer. This is done using the uploader program. Select the file you wish to upload, and configure the options you desire. When you click the upload button, a dialog box will appear containing 4 fields: IP address: This is the IP address of the display computer. If the display computer is on a LAN, you must enter the Public IP address of the LAN. Port Number: The default value for this field is 21.
