(IC690ACC900) datasheet Features Provides the IC69* programmable controllers with an interface to devices that use the RS- interface. Allows connection to programming computer without a Work Station Interface board. Easy cable connection to either an IC69, IC69, or IC69 programmable controller. No external power needed - operates from + volt DC power on the programmable controller backplane. Convenient, light weight self-contained unit. Functions The provides an RS- serial interface for the IC69* programmable controllers, which have a built-in RS-/RS- interface. Specifically, it provides a serial connection between an IC69, IC69, or IC69 programmable controller serial port and the serial port on the 6 IC690ACC900 programming computer without the need for a Work Station Interface to be installed in the computer. The programming computer can be an IBM XT, AT, or PS/ or compatible Personal Computer. Location in System The RS-/RS- to RS- converter is a free-standing device which requires two cables as the connections between the programmable controller and the programmer. Its location is limited only by the length of the connecting cables as listed in the interface specifications (see Table ). The cable at the programmable controller end that connects to the RS-/RS- connector on the converter can be up to 0 feet in length (without an external source of + VDC) and up to 000 feet (00m) in length with an external source of + VDC. The cable from the RS- connector on the converter to the programming computer s serial port can be up to 0 feet (m) in length. Installation Installation of the consists of connecting two cables. Select the proper cables for your installation. Prewired cables (see below) are available, or if cables of different lengths are required by your application, you can build your own cables. Specifications for building these cables are provided later. You do not need to connect an external source of power to the converter for a cable length of 0 feet, or less, since the necessary power connections of + VDC and signal ground are derived from the programmable controller s backplane bus through the cable which connects to the IC69, IC69, or IC69 programmable controller. Select one of the three RS- compatible cables (0 feet in length) that will connect the programmer s (or other serial device) RS- serial port to the RS- port on the converter. The catalog numbers of these cables are: IC690CBL0 (use with the IC60 industrial computer, or IBM PC-XT or compatible personal computer), IC690CBL0 (use with IBM PC-AT or compatible personal computer), and IC690CBL0 (use with the IC6 industrial computer, or IBM PS/ or compatible personal computer). A standard 6-foot cable (HHP compatible) is available to connect the RS-/RS- port on the converter to the RS- port on the programmable controller. The catalog number of this cable is IC69CBL0. Installation of these cables should be done with the programmable controller powered-down. Connect the -pin male connector on the 0 foot cable to the -pin female connector on the converter. Connect the female connector (9-pin or -pin) on the opposite end of this cable to the male RS- connector (serial port) on the selected programming (or other serial) device. If you build you own cable, use a connector that is compatible with your serial device. Notice that both ends of the 6-foot RS-/RS- compatible cable are the same; a -pin male connector is attached at both ends. Connect one end of this cable to the -pin female connector on the RS-/RS- connector on the converter. Connect the other end of this cable to the -pin female connector, which interfaces to the RS- compatible serial port on the IC69* programmable controller. For the IC69 programmable controller, this connector is accessed by opening the hinged door on the power supply. The serial port connector for the IC69 programmable controller is on the CPU module, and is accessed by opening the hinged door on the module. The serial port for the IC69 programmable controller is located on the CPU module. Cable Description The serial connection to the IC69 programmable controller (see Figure ) is to the RS-/RS- compatible serial port connector, located at the bottom of the CPU module behind the hinged door, through an available 6 foot ( meter) serial interface cable - IC69CBL0. Wiring information and recommended cable and connectors are provided for those who may want to build their own cable having a different length. The serial connection to the IC69 programmable controller is to the RS-/ compatible serial port connector located behind the hinged door on the right front of the power supply, also through the same 6 foot serial interface cable, IC69CBL0 - or equivalent, as shown in Figure. The serial connection to the IC69 programmable controller (see Figure ) is to the RS-/RS- compatible serial port connector, located on the lower right of the CPU module, also through the available 6 foot ( meter) serial interface cable - IC69CBL0.

Jumper Configuration There are three jumper locations on the converter board for selection of user options. Each jumper position has three pins, as shown in the following illustration. These jumper positions, labeled JP, JP, and JP, are accessed by removing the square plastic cover on the top of the converter. Configuration can be changed as required by carefully removing one or more of the jumpers with a pair of needle nose pliers RS-/RS and placing it on the desired pair of pins. Refer to the description of these selectable jumper positions in the following table and place the jumper on the selected pair of pins. The pins are numbered,, and. As shown in Figure and Table, the default jumper locations are indicated by a rectangle over the pins to be jumpered for each position. The default pin numbers are and. a60 RS- Figure. Location of Jumpers for User Options Table. Jumper Configuration for Jumper Position Label Jumper Configuration Description JP Default position and is used when the device communicating with the PLC does not supply the Carrier Detect signal. JP forces the signal active on the RS- port. Use jumper positions and if the device does supply the Carrier Detect signal. This allows the programming device to control. JP MODEM Default position and is used when an attached Modem does not require the Clear To Send () signal. This allows the programming device to control the RTS signal. Jumper positions and are used when the attached Modem does require the signal (most modems require this signal). Forces RTS to be continually active. JP ATTACH Default position and is used for most applications communicating with the PLC via a serial programming port. Jumper positions and are used if the device communicating with the PLC is intended to emulate the Hand-Held Programmer protocol. Refer to the documentation for your serial device for signal requirements.

Any cable having the same electrical characteristics is acceptable. It is strongly recommended that you use stranded wire. Since it is sometimes hard to find a cable with the desired number of twisted pairs (the Belden 909 has an extra pair), you may end up with a cable with extra pairs. For distances over 0 feet ( meters), the + volt DC logic power source must be provided externally by connecting an external power supply to the +V and SG (0V) connections at the converter end of the cable. The +V pin at the PLC connector end of the cable must not be connected to the cable. The +V and SG connections from the external power supply must be isolated from its own power line ground connection. Ensure that there is no connection between the external supply and the PLC except the SG cable connection. * Refer to GFK-06B, or later for product standards and general specifications. Table.
