1. Important notes on the installation of the Nokia handsfree car kit For use within the BMW dealership organization only. The installation of Nokia handsfree car kits is to be performed only by appropriately qualified workshops equipped with the necessary special tools and documentation (maintenance, repair, diagnostic manuals, etc.) Take care to prevent kinking or other damage to cabling and wires during installation. Any additionally installed cables or wires must be secured with cable ties. Item numbers refer only to overviews / schedules and text adjoining the respective illustration. Prior to the installation of a Nokia handsfree car kit, the vehicle must be fitted with an E53 basic retrofit kit or E53 upgrade retrofit kit (cars with SA640). Install the adapter harness A and the cables B from the mobile phone cradle unit in accordance with the above diagram and secure with cable ties and/or textile-type adhesive tape. When installing the adapter harness A, start with branches A1 and A2. Branches A1 and A2 - run to LH side of centre console, near the parking brake lever Branches A3, A4 and A5 - run along the centre console on LH side to the installation site of the handsfree kit control unit behind the heater box. Branch B1 - run to the installation site of the handsfree kit control unit under the heater box Branch B2 - run into passenger-side footwell Tie back any excess cable lengths. EN/25
6. Fitting the microphone 33 31 32 8 Snap-fit the microphone (8) to the microphone cover (). Connect the black 3-pole female connector (31) with the black 3-pole male connector on the microphone. (32) F 53 0457 B Note the direction of the arrow on the microphone cover panel () and microphone (8) (arrow direction = vehicle forward direction). Snap-fit the microphone cover () back into its recess (33). EN/26
7. Preparing the support panel 2 13 Clean (degrease) the handsfree kit control unit (2) before affixing the dual mounting strips (13). Cut two 100mm lengths off the 0mm piece of fine dual mounting strip (13) and discard the rest. Affix the two previously cut pieces (100 mm) of fine dual mounting strip (13) to the handsfree kit control unit (2) as shown in the illustration. F 53 0458 B 12 13 Cut two 100mm lengths off the 0mm piece of coarse dual mounting strip (12) and discard the rest. Affix the two previously cut pieces (100 mm) of coarse dual mounting strip (12) to the two lengths of fine dual mounting strip (13) previously affixed to the handsfree kit control unit (2). 2 F 53 0459 B 14 Clean (degrease) the support panel (14) in the hatched areas (). F 53 0460 B 2 14 Remove the protective film from the coarse dual mounting strip on the handsfree kit control unit (2) and affix the handsfree kit control unit (2) to the support panel (14) as shown in the illustration. 7. Preparing the support panel 17 14 Cut one mm length and one 80mm length off the 0mm piece of hook-and-loop fastener strip (17). Cut one 80mm length of the 0mm piece of edge protector (19). Affix the previously cut mm piece of hookand-loop fastener strip (17). Place the previously cut 80mm piece of edge protector (19) over the edge of the support panel (14), as shown. 19 F 53 0461 B Clean (degrease) the adhesive bonding surface (15) on the angle bracket. 15 Affix the previously cut 80mm piece of hookand-loop fastener strip (17) to the angle bracket (15), as shown. 17 F 53 0462 B EN/28
8. Preparing the phone console 3 Pre-assemble the phone console (20) as described in the E53 Phone Console Installation Instructions. Align the support panel (3) with the phone console (20) in such a way that the mobile phone cradle unit can subsequently be fitted on the centre console () without collision. 20 F 53 0472 B 3 Align the support panel (3) and mark out the four mounting holes (). Remove the support panel (3) and drill four 2.4mm holes in the previously marked positions of the phone console (20) using a twist drill. Remove the phone console (20). 20 F 53 0473 B EN/29

Preparing the phone console 3 11 20 6 4 1 Screw the support panel (3) to the phone console (20) with the four pan-head self-tapping screws 2.9x16 (11) and secure the mobile phone cradle unit (1) with attached cable to the support panel (3) with the four fillister head screws M5x14 (6). Snap-fit the cap (4) for the mobile phone cradle unit (4) to the mobile phone cradle unit (1) with attached cable. F 53 0474 B 20 1 Align cable B of the mobile phone cradle unit (1) as shown in the illustration and secure it to the phone console (20) using textile-type adhesive tape (). Fit the phone console (20), checking that the cables do not get crushed. If necessary, file a recess into the phone console. B F 53 0463 B EN/
9. Fitting / connecting the adapter harness A1 9 A2 A F 53 0464 B The illustration shows the LH side centre console area, in front of the parking brake lever. Connect branch A1, black 18-pole male connector of adapter harness A, to the black 18- pole female connector () of the retrofitted basic/upgrade wiring harness. Tie back branch A2, black 6-pole male connector on the adapter harness A, since it will not be needed. Affix the protective strip (9) to the cables in such a manner that the plug connections A1+ and branch A2 are enclosed. When placing the enclosed plug connection A1+ and branch A2 under the centre console, make sure that no cable is crushed or damaged. B2 B1 9 F 53 0465 B The illustration shows the passenger-side footwell. Run branch B1, transparent 15-pole male connector (RJ11 type) from the handsfree kit control unit, behind the heater control box, then toward the left into the passenger-side footwell. Connect branch B2, FME coaxial male connector from the handsfree kit control unit, to the coaxial female connector () of the basic/upgrade wiring harness by screwing the connectors together. Affix the protective strip (9) to the cables in such a manner that the screwed connection B1+ is enclosed. EN/31
9. Fitting / connecting the adapter harness 2 5 31 34 A5 32 33 B1 A3 A A4 10 F 53 0466 B Secure the adapter harness A to the basic/upgrade wiring harness () with cable ties (10). Connect branch B1, transparent 15-pole male connector (RJ11 type) coming from the mobile phone cradle unit with cable, to the grey 15-pole female connector (31) of the handsfree kit control unit (2). Connect branch A3, 2-pole jack plug (2.5 mm) on adapter harness A, to the grey female connector (2.5 mm) (32) of the handsfree kit control unit (2). Connect branch A4, 2-pole jack plug (3.5 mm) on adapter harness A, to the grey female connector (3.5 mm) (33) of the handsfree kit control unit (2). Connect branch A5, white 6-pole female connector on adapter harness A, to the white 6-pole male connector (34) of the handsfree kit control unit (2). Finally, snap-fit the cap (5) for the handsfree kit control unit (2) on the handsfree kit control unit. 2 Insert the support panel (14) with pre-fitted handsfree kit control unit (2) carefully under the heater box, working from left to right. Take care not to crush or damage any cables or wires. 31 14 Position the support panel (14) in such a manner that the mounting hole () is aligned with the mounting hole in the side panel on the left. Secure adapter harness A with cable ties at the mounting hole (31). F 53 0467 B 14 16 Screw the angle bracket (15) to the support panel (14), using two hexagon head screws M5x14 with washer (16). Adjust the fitted angle bracket (15) so that the mounting hole () is aligned with the mounting hole in the side panel on the right. 15 F 53 0468 B EN/32
9. Fitting / connecting the adapter harness 18 The illustration shows the driver's side footwell. Fit the LH side panel () and secure it with a 3.5x35 recessed-head self-tapping screw (18). Proceed analogously in the passenger side footwell. F 53 0469 B EN/33
10. Coding and final steps Coding This system cannot be diagnosed and requires no encoding. Final steps Connect the battery Perform a functional check Reassemble in the reverse order of disassembly. Print out error memory contents. EN/34
