Featuring Auto Updates DAISY 4.3
1-Introducing Auto Updates for DAISY 4.3 DAISY 4.3 has a new feature called Auto Updates, which changes the way DAISY software is installed on your network. In previous versions of DAISY, both the software application and database were installed on the server. Workstation computers accessed DAISY over the network. Starting with version 4.3, the DAISY application resides on each server and workstation, while the database remains only on the server. This new installation method improves overall DAISY performance. How It Works With DAISY 4.3 Auto Updates, installation is a two-step process: 1. Install the DMC Updater. This software utility enables your system to automatically receive DAISY 4.3 and future DAISY updates. 2. Install the DAISY application onto the workstations. Installation of the application on the workstations takes place only once as part of the 4.3 update. Future updates will download to your system and install automatically. To receive updates automatically, you need to leave your server powered on at night. You must be sure you have saved all DAISY information by exiting the DAISY software on each computer. Workstations also update each time the server receives a new update. If a workstation is not powered up on the night you receive an update, the installation occurs once you turn the workstation on. The update can take a few minutes to complete before the user can log in to DAISY. The DAISY 4.3 DMC Updater installation takes approximately ten minutes to install on the server. During the installation, you can continue to access DAISY on all of your office computers with no interruption to your daily routine. Your server automatically notifies DMC that you have completed the DMC Updater installation. The Release Manager at DMC then schedules your office to receive the DAISY Application installation. At approximately midnight on the scheduled date, your server will receive the DAISY application and automatically install it on the server for you. The next time a user logs in to DAISY on a workstation, the application will install on that workstation. Installation on each workstation takes approximately 10 minutes. Please set aside adequate time for this process to complete. You cannot access DAISY on the workstation until the installation completes and the workstation is running on the same version of DAISY as the server. 2 - INSTALL DMC UPDATER Note: DMC provides the link to install the DMC Updater in a notification received in your DAISY Inbox. If you are receiving this installation guide, then the DMC Updater installation is complete and DMC has scheduled your office to receive the DAISY 4.3 Application update. Start the installation 3 - INSTALL DAISY APPLICATION UPDATE You need to install the DAISY Application update on all workstations where DAISY is used. To install the DAISY Application update: 1 Log in to Windows on the DAISY workstation. 2 Double-click the DAISY icon. 3 A dialog will appear indicating that DAISY needs to be installed locally. Choose Yes. If your windows log in does not give you administrator rights on the workstation, a message will appear to contact your system administrator for assistance. 4 If you are on a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows 7 or later, you may see a User Account Control dialog appear. Click Yes to allow the program to run. 5 Confirm all non-daisy related applications are closed. 6 The dialog to begin the DAISY Application installation will appear. 7 Run the InstallShield Wizard. 8 The Destination Folder dialog box indicates a default path, click Next. Do not change the path. 9 Follow the instructions on the screen, then click Install. 10 When the installation is complete, click Finish to exit the InstallShield Wizard. 11 Restart your workstation.
