Appendix A: Best Practices and Recommendations for Test Centers Before Testing Start the Versant for Web Local app on each testing station prior to test takers arriving at the site for testing. Test centers should provide a distraction-free, secure testing environment with continuous proctoring. If the test center is set up to administer other tests, the layout of the center may be adequate as long as it meets the system requirements as noted in Section 1. Non-compliance of minimum system requirements could result in errors or un-scorable tests. Testing can be a stressful experience. Even minor noises near the testing area may cause distractions. If there is obvious noise, such as building construction, ask the tester whether he or she will be affected by the noise before testing begins. Head-mounted USB headsets with microphone and headphones are required to minimize background noise and insure accurate and reliable test results. If using privacy partitions to create privacy and absorb sound between workstations, permanent partitions at least 5 feet in height from the ground are recommended. If partitions are not available, testers should be assigned testing stations so an empty or unused station is between two testers. For instance, a testing center with 30 testing stations should assign testers to only 15 stations to keep an unused station between the testers. If using partitions, partitions must allow for an unobstructed view of each tester (including their hands) while testing. Adequate proctoring during testing is imperative to maintain test integrity and security. The proctor should not have a computer running during the testing session. Multiple proctors should be present if more than fifteen candidates are testing at the same time (one proctor per fifteen candidates). To better prepare, test takers should schedule appointments prior to arrival at the test centers. This will make centers aware of the expected number of testers per day. During Testing Complete and accurate documentation of PIN / Test assignments is mandatory. Test Takers may not share PINs as each number is valid for one administration only. Test Takers should not be allowed to have cell phones, paper, or any other items that may help or distract them during testing. Inform the test taker that the test officially begins after he or she has accessed the Versant testing system, completes the system check and states their name at the start of the test. If the test taker exits the test after saying their name but before completing the test and clicking Finish, the test will not be scored and the PIN cannot be reused. 2015 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliate(s).
