Wake up your city with a standard, ESPRESSO! Overview presentation 15 th November 2016 Philippe Moretto (ETSI STF), ESPRESSO
Standards for all!
About Espresso 2 years 2016 2018 EU funded project Sixteen consortia members 31 deliverables Project lead OGC Open Geospatial Consortium http://espresso project.eu/
Global Scope & Context To provide a consistent and shared definition of what is a Smart City today in terms of sectorial services and how this may evolve in the medium to long term. To select representative use cases, in terms of Smart City standards, for the pilot cities of ESPRESSO. To single out requirements for Smart City standardisation aspects To define a conceptual standards interoperability framework for Smart City. To map existing standards from various SDOs on top of the conceptual standards framework. To carry on a comprehensive SWOT analysis related to future standardisation landscape.
Project objectives Project Management
Stakeholder community SmaCSTak Objective: Creation of the SmaCStak: a community of Smart City stakeholders Stimulate the sharing of knowledge among the stakeholders Status : Smart City Atlas developed, an online georeferenced map showing the location of the various stakeholders New stakeholders bringing relevant inputs are welcome. http://espresso project.eu The Go To Place for Smart Cities using Standards: 114 members Interactive knowledge base People like me, learn from each other Regular webinars on specific Smart Cities topics Access to ESO, NSB, SDO working groups Influence the standards!
Status & Gaps Status : 10 cities report having a cross sector data model (out of 36), and only three of these are based on a standard Similarly, 10 cities report having a digital model, with five of them being standards based mostofthemanagementsystemsarehomegrown,withonly7/33havingeven reviewed standards in this area Although 19/37 use KPIs, only seven of these use a standard set Standards Gaps Management Several overlapping standards exist, but are not used much Business process One or two cross sector standards exist, but are not used much Knowledge / information / data Lots of standards (for different aspects), but few cities use them Engineering (ICT) Lots of competing standards & other approaches
Smart City Information framework Objective: Development of a shared vocabulary Definition of reference architecture City information indicators Certification Program Pilot Execution Status : Shared vocabulary, architecture and best practices documentation delivered Output feeds international initiatives for further take up and development o ISO IEC JTC1 WG11 o KPI develoment and certification (CITYKeys, WCCD, UNECE, others) o World wide participation and feedback to the SDO s Further architectural revision by December 2016
Improving standardisation Objective: Provide feedback to ETSI, DIN and OGC standard s process. This gives cities rapid access to the standardisation tracks. Also increases uptake and long term project output sustainability. Output also includes ISO IEC JTC1 WG11 Status : Initiated
WP3 Smart city standards streamline Duration : M8 M19 (August 2016 July 2017) Partners : OGC, DIN and ETSI Objectives: Overlapping and subsequent harmonization potential of standards across SDOs Coordination requirements on new standards or components between European bodies CEN, CENELEC and ETSI Priorities for standardization activities within the various SDOs (OGC, ISO etc) and development of aligned roadmaps for SDOs and associated organisations Developments of fast track guidelines for various SDOs Tasks: T3.1: Cross SDOs analysis on harmonisation of Smart City standards T3.2: Coordinated development of high level cross domain standardization requirements based on strategic programme from CEN, CENELEC and ETSI Smart City coordination T3.3: Definition of SDOs priorities and aligned roadmap of SDOs and associated membership T3.4: Identification of fast track standardization procedures
