Quick Start Guide Device buttons 1) Power button Press this button to turn on/off the device. The red indicator will glow when the device is charging; the blue indicator will glow while the device is being used. 2) Refresh button

Press this button to refresh the screen. 3) Page Up button Press this button to turn to the previous page. Hold this button to turn back ten pages. 4) Page Down button Press this button to turn to the next page. Hold this button to turn ten pages forward. 5) Keyboard area Includes: number keys, letter keys, and function keys. Index button (Number) Press any numeric button 1~9 to execute the corresponding function in the function menu. Page jump button (Number) When reading a DOC, TXT, HTXT, HTML, PDF or EPUB file, press the 0~9 numeric buttons to jump to the corresponding page directly. Function shortcut key (Number) Press MENU to display the function menu. Press any numeric button to execute the corresponding function. Play/record button

Open or close the Recorder and Player interface. Zoom button ( ) Press this button to zoom in/out on text or pictures. OK button Press this button to confirm the operation. Direction button Press these four buttons to turn the page or navigate menus. Return button Press Return button to cancel the operation or return to the previous interface. SYM button Press this button to return to the main menu. In the Recent Files, Settings, User s Guide and Recorder and Player interface, press button or press button to return to the main menu. 2. While reading, press the refresh button to refresh the screen if the display is not clear.

3.While reading, press the numeric buttons and OK to jump to the corresponding page directly. 4.It is faste and safe to use the SD card to transfer data between PC and device.

Main menu Basic operations The main menu is displayed when the device is turned on. Reading interface The screen is separated into 3 parts. The status area is located at the top of the screen, the reading area is in the middle, and the page information is at the bottom. 1. Status area: the menu icon, e-book titles, SD card icon, battery icon, time and ESC icon will be displayed in this

area. 2. Reading area: function list, file list, text and pictures will be displayed in this area. 3. Page information area: displays the current page number, total number of pages. Recent Files The last 14 files used will be displayed. Press / button to select a book and press OK to confirm, or press the corresponding numeric button to open a book directly. If this is

a book you have already started reading, the last page you read last time will be displayed when you open the book. Note: if one of the books you read is deleted from the SD card, the reading record will still remain in the Recent File list, but it cannot be opened. Bookcase Book reading Enter Bookcase. Select one book and press OK to confirm, or press the corresponding numeric button to open the book directly. Page turning Press the direction buttons or the page up/down button to turn the page. Page jumping While reading, press any numeric button, and press OK to jump directly to the corresponding page. If you ve made an input mistake, press the left direction key to delete the number and input again. Note: if the number you ve input is more than the total number of pages, the system won t accept the operation.

Text zoom Press zoom button ( ) to adjust the font size. TXT,HTML files support 8 zoom levels. Supported formats The following formats are supported: TXT, HTXT, PDF, EPUB, DOC, and HTML. Search

Press the MENU button and select Search to open the search window. Input your search term and then press OK button to search for content. Press return button to close the window. Bookmarks (REVIEW THIS SECTION) There are two kinds of bookmarking methods, one for files (e-books) and one for directories (folders). File bookmarking allows up to 5 bookmarks per file to be saved. Directory bookmarking allows up to 5 bookmarks across multiple files within the same directory to be aggregated and saved. To choose the bookmarking method, from settings, select Continuous Turning. The default setting is file bookmarking; highlight the Picture / HTML / TXT boxes to select directory bookmarking. Add a bookmark: while reading, press the MENU button, select Bookmark, select Add to add the present page as a bookmark. View bookmark: press the MENU button and select Bookmark to display the bookmark list. Select a bookmark to

open the corresponding page. Note: bookmarks will be sorted by date; only the 5 most recent bookmarks can be shown. In image files, only shift bookmarks can be added. Autopage Press the MENU button and select Autopage to open settings window. Select or input autopage time. Digital Editions After your WISEreader is authorized by Adobe, open Adobe Digital Editions on your PC. Turn on the activated WISEreader and connect it to your computer to copy downloaded Adobe books from Adobe Digital Editions to the folder named Digital Editions in the device s SD card. Pictures Picture View All pictures saved in the folder can be browsed continuously. Picture view There are four display modes for viewing the pictures: Fit Window, Fit Width, Fit Height and Actual Size. Press the MENU button and then select the corresponding display

mode. Supported image formats The device supports the following image formats: JPG, BMP, GIF, TIF and PNG. Picture size Supports 3,000,000 pixel maximum. Audio There are two audio functions: record and play. Play music Select Audio in the main menu, and press OK to display the audio list. Select a file and press OK button to open the Recorder and Player interface.or press audio button in the keypad to open the Recorder and Player interface directly. Audio formats supported: MP3, WAV, WMA. Play recorded file Select Audio in the main menu and press OK to enter the recorder and player interface. Or press audio button in the keypad to open the Recorder and Player interface directly.then press numeric button 2 to record. The recorded

file will save to the e-record folder as a WAV file. Press the numeric button 1 to play this recorded file. Player and Recorder settings Play/Pause: press the numeric button 1 to play/pause music or recorded audio file. A speaker icon will appear in the status area. Record: press the numeric button 2 to record. A microphone icon will appear in the status area. Stop: press the numeric button 3 to stop music or recording.

Forward/Rewind: Forward and Rewind functions are controlled by the numeric buttons 4 and 5 respectively. Single/Cycle: press the numeric button 6 to select single/cycle play modes. VOL+/-: press the direction button / to decrease or increase the volume. Pre/Next: press the direction button / to select the previous or next track. Settings Select Settings in the main menu, and press OK to open the settings interface. Press the direction buttons and the numeric buttons to select the corresponding options. Continuous Turning For images, and HTML, TXT files, the system provides consecutive turning setting, after which the files under the same directory can be turned consecutively. If this function is needed, just select the correspondent type. Sleep Settings Sleep: select Yes to enter sleep mode. The system will go to

sleep after several seconds if no additional operations are input into the system, and the LED indicator will turn off; select No and the system will not enter sleep mode, and the LED indicator will remain on. The system won t enter sleep when playing music. Sleep Delay: Three levels can be selected: Short, Medium, Long. Select Short and the system will enter sleep mode quickly; select Long and the system will enter sleep mode slowly. Recent Files (currently e-reader says Recent Reading ) Select Record to save reading history. Select Don t Record to not save reading history. Clean Up: the recent reading history will be deleted. Keypad Tones Select On or Off to turn keypad sounds on and off when pressed. Font Settings There are two font effects: Clear and Smooth. Font choices: Arial and Black. System Time

Display system s time zone or the current date and time Set time-zone: press numberic button 1 in System Time to open Set time zone interface, and press the direction keys to select the appropriate time zone. Then press OK to save the new time zone. Modify Time: press numberic button 2 in System Time to open Modify Time interface; press the number keys to input time directly. Then press OK to save the new time. Refresh Mode The system has two refresh modes: Partial and Global. Partial refresh: part of the screen will be refreshed. Global refresh: the whole screen will be refreshed. Under direct sunlight or low temperature, global refresh is recommended. Factory Default Default: restore the system to the default settings. Clear Temp: clear the temporary files in the system. If more system memory is being consumed or the performance is worsening, please execute this function. Note, all previous bookmarks will be deleted and all books will be reset to read

from the very beginning. System Maintenance Download update packages from the Hanvon website, decompress the packages and copy to the root directory of the SD card. If the update packages are Update.bin and Update.cde, press numberic button 1 to update system; if the update packages are hwepb.cck and hwepb.upd, press numberic button 2 to update software. Set Startup Picture: copy start.jpg to the root directory of the SD card, and then press numeric button 4 to set the startup picture; Picture filename and size must be start.jpg, 600*800px respectively. Cancel Startup Picture: delete start.jpg from the root directory of the SD card, and press numeric button 4 to enter startup picture, then press Confirm to cancel startup picture. Update Resources: copy resources to the root directory of the SD card, and then press numeric button 5 to update resources. After the update is completed, please delete resources. Device Information

Display the device s ID and version information. Device ID: use the device ID to obtain product support, including technical services, more legal E-book resources, reading authority, and so on. Auto Shutdown Setting After 40 mins: if device enter into sleep mode for 40 mins, the device will shut down automatically. After 60 mins: if device enter into sleep mode for 60 mins, the device will shut down automatically. Never: the device will not shut down automatically. Space Query SD card space: View SD capacity, including total capacity, used space and free space. Power Supply: View Power Supply.

Adobe reader instructions Formats The device s internal Adobe Reader software supports PDF and EPUB files DRM 1. Adobe DRM protected PDF and EPUB files are supported only if Adobe Digital Editions 1.5 or later is installed on your computer and your WISEreader is connected to the computer which is in internet. 2. Digital Rights Display the following only if a book with DRM is selected. a. Full viewable: the entire book can be read. b. Restricted: Some or entire book cannot be read. c. Expiration date Display the expiration date of a book if the book with DRM has an expiration date. Steps for setting up DRM Step 1: Install Adobe Digital Editions on your computer and apply for User name and password.

Step 2: After installation, open the software and enter your Adobe account information Step 3: After turning on the WISEreader, with Adobe Digital Editions open, connect the WISEreader to your computer. An authorization window will open prompting activation. Click on Authorize to complete DRM activation. Notes: 1. Authorization information is stored on SD card. Therefore you will need to activate the device again if a new SD card is used. 2. If you want to use a new Adobe account and re-activate your reader, please delete the hidden folder under the SD root:.adobe-digital-editions. Please refer to below website for more information. http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions.

Battery charging Other Operations Please charge the battery when the power runs out. The device can be charged via a USB cable or charger (optional accessory). The battery can be charged while the device is powered on or off. Connect the device to a computer with the USB cable. The red LED indicator will glow. The battery icon in the status bar indicates that the battery is charging. Note: charging time is approximately 4 hours. The red LED indicator will turn off when charging has finished. File Management Connect to computer Connect the device to a computer with the USB cable. Turn on the device, Are you sure you want to transmit data? will be displayed on the screen. Press OK to confirm. The computer should automatically detect your device. File management

Select Removable disk in My computer to remove, copy or delete files or folders. In the default status, there are several pre-loaded folders on the SD card: e_audio, e_book, e_image. Save the files in their corresponding folders respectively. Note: these pre-loaded folders can t be renamed or deleted. Please save the files in the correct folder, otherwise, the files cannot be opened. For example, save TXT, HTXT, PDF, EPUB, DOC, HTML files into e_book, save pictures into e_image and save music into e_audio.

If the SD card is not recognized, re-insert the SD card or restart the device. When the system is reading data, please do not remove the SD card or reset the device. If the SD card needs to be formatted, please backup all data on the SD card first, and then select FAT-32 format. Restarting the device 1.If the device has frozen, click the RESET button located at the back of the device to restart the system. 2.When the power runs out and device can not be turned on, please charge the device. Miscellaneous 1. Under direct sunlight or in low-temperatures, the characters displayed on the screen may fade. Please enter the Settings interface and select Global to refresh the entire screen. 2. Due to memory limitations, the device might not read certain complicated DOC, PDF and HTML files properly. 3. Prevent hearing impairment Using the earphones for an extended period of time at a high volume may damage your hearing. Please adjust the volume

Product maintenance Driver Updates and Software Updates Please download official upgrade packages from the Hanvon website. Copy decompressed packages into the root directory of the SD card. If the update packages are Update.bin and Update.cde, execute the Update System. If the update packages are hwepb.cck and hwepb.upd, execute the Update Soft.. Note: During the update process, please ensure the battery is not low. If the device turns off during an update, the device may be damaged. It s best to remain connected to a PC via USB cable when updating. Operating environment The operating temperature for this device is from 0 to 40 (from 32 to 104 ). The device s performance will deteriorate when operating outside of this temperature range. Please avoid using this device under the direct sunlight or in

damp and dusty places. In very cold areas, please avoid using this device outside during the winter. Keep slots clear The slots on the device are used for heat output, please keep slots clear. Safety Please don t read while driving or operating machinery. This device contains parts that are sensitive to impacts. Do not drop, bend or subject to high pressure. Non-waterproof The device is not waterproof. Please keep away from water. Cleaning Do not clean the device while it is on or charging. Please use a soft cloth to clean the screen and faceplate. Avoid cleaning with water, soap, solvent or alcohol.
