Autodesk Map Release 6 (AutoCAD 2002) Includes all the core benefits of AutoCAD 2002 software Classification Classification enables users to assign specific properties to objects, and identify, manipulate, or select these objects by their description (e.g., road, river) rather than as simple primitives (lines, circles, arcs).cogo (coordinate geometry) Class Definition: Enable class definition to refer to any object property Object Classification: Allow users to tag objects with a defined classification Management of Classified Object: Easily identify tagged objects so that they can be selected, manipulated, easily accessible via the well-known AutoCAD Object Property Window Hierarchy of classes: Allow users to create classes within classes (e.g. Transportation and Expressway being one subcategory of Transportation) COGO For mapping professionals, COGO allows the creation of highly accurate maps very quickly, using terminology and concepts with which they are familiar. While creating any Autodesk Map linear entity, Autodesk offers COGO input options that are dynamically available to the users: Angle distance Bearing distance Azimuth distance Deflection distance In addition, the ability to extract geometry information (inverse/inquiry) including line and curve details, area, slope, and coordinates from any line or arc are available using Autodesk Map 2004. Annotation The new Autodesk Map Annotation tool displays textual values on objects in the maps. Users can define annotation templates based on text properties and expressions based on attribute values and/or object properties. Annotation is also referred as labels. Polygon Object Integrated new multiloop polygon object throughout the product: Creation and editing of polygon objects, which may include 07/07/2003 www.autodesk.com/products 2

Import Export Enhancements The FME Import-Export engine provides a powerful method to exchange data with other GIS and mapping industry standard formats providing interoperability with all major GIS software. Autodesk Import/Export capabilities include: Enhanced attribute export Direct polygon topology export Enhanced attribute import including databases In addition, Autodesk Map imports and exports maps from standard mapping file formats including ArcView shapefile, ArcInfo coverages, and E00 from ESRI, MapInfo MIF/MID, and Microstation DGN. Drawing Cleanup Enhancements Commonly, maps contain inaccuracies resulting from surveying, digitizing, or scanning errors. Autodesk software improves its series of tools to correct errors and eliminate unnecessary levels of detail for presentation inlargescale maps so that users can build a topology and perform map analysis. Topology Enhancements 07/07/2003 www.autodesk.com/products 3
Autodesk improves its topology functionality as a set of connections that establishes how nodes, links, and polygons relate to each other when performing spatial analysis. This analysis includes network tracing, shortest-path routing, polygon overlay, and polygon buffer generation. Updated Coordinate Systems Autodesk leverages the latest capabilities of its coordinate system engine. The enhancements include additional data content provided by adding new coordinate system support. Tutorial Enhancements The Autodesk Map tutorials have been reformatted in order to enhance the user experience. Autodesk Map Release 5 (AutoCAD 2002, LDT 3) Includes all the core benefits of AutoCAD 2002 software Autodesk Map Oracle Spatial integration Now Autodesk stores, accesses, and analyzes Oracle geospatial data quickly and efficiently. This direct link between Autodesk Map and Oracle Spatial provides a method not only to migrate data between Autodesk DWG files and Oracle Spatial database tables, but also to query and import database information and perform edit operations through AutoCAD editing tools. Oracle Spatial data created with Autodesk Map can also be viewed in the field with Autodesk MapGuide and Autodesk OnSite Enterprise. Map works with Oracle Spatial version 8.1.6 and uses the objectrelational model to store data. Export from Autodesk Map DWG to Oracle Spatial Move selected graphic and attribute information (including block attributes, object data, and external database links) from Autodesk Map drawings into Oracle Spatial, storing Autodesk Map objects in Oracle Spatial as true Oracle geometry. i Generate Spatial Indexing Autodesk Map provides an interface to create spatial indexing in Oracle. As an alternative, the Oracle Spatial indexing tools can be used as well. Indexing is maintained by the Oracle Spatial database server. Import from Oracle Spatial Autodesk Map DWG Retrieve records from Oracle Spatial based location, display 07/07/2003 www.autodesk.com/products 4
properties, or SQL conditions. Display properties include block and layer names and text values. Data exported retrieved from Oracle Spatial has the same graphic properties and attributes.. Update Oracle Records Once Oracle Spatial records are imported, they can be updated using Map tools and the corresponding records updated or erased in the database. New objects can be created in Autodesk Map and appended to the Oracle Spatial database. Application Programming Interface (API) Access to the Connect, Disconnect, Import, and Update functionality. Other Oracle Spatial Functionality Compatibility with the Autodesk MapGuide Oracle Spatial Data Provider. There is no to generate SDF files to view and use all geospatial information and attributes. Thematic mapping Interface The new thematic map interface uses the project workspace and a wizard-based series of dialog boxes to create a new thematic map. The new command can also be used to edit an existing thematic map quickly and effectively. Enhanced Raster Image Support Autodesk adds support for georeferenced wavelet format files MrSID from LizardTech Inc. and ECW from Earth Resource Mapping to improve storage and delivery of extremely large data sets associated with satellite imagery and aerial survey photography. Import Export Enhancements The FME Import-Export engine provides a fast and powerful method to exchange data with other GIS and mapping industry standard formats.
