Safety Summary General Environment Conditions Before Applying Power Ground the Instrument Do Not Operate in an Explosive Atmosphere The following general safety precautions must be observed during all phases of operation of this instrument. Failure to comply with these precautions or with specific warnings or operating instructions in the product manuals violates safety standards of design, manufacture, and intended use of the instrument. Keysight Technologies assumes no liability for the customer's failure to comply with these requirements. Product manuals are provided with your instrument on CD-ROM and/or in printed form. Printed manuals are an option for many products. Manuals may also be available on the Web. Go to www.keysight.com and type in your product number in the Search field at the top of the page. This product is a Safety Class 1 instrument (provided with a protective earth terminal). The protective features of this product may be impaired if it is used in a manner not specified in the operation instructions. All Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) used in this product are Class 1 LEDs as per IEC 60825-1. This instrument is intended for indoor use in an installation category II, pollution degree 2 environment. It is designed to operate at a maximum relative humidity of 95% and at altitudes of up to 2000 meters. Refer to the specifications tables for the ac mains voltage requirements and ambient operating temperature range. Verify that all safety precautions are taken. The power cable inlet of the instrument serves as a device to disconnect from the mains in case of hazard. The instrument must be positioned so that the operator can easily access the power cable inlet. When the instrument is rack mounted the rack must be provided with an easily accessible mains switch. To minimize shock hazard, the instrument chassis and cover must be connected to an electrical protective earth ground. The instrument must be connected to the ac power mains through a grounded power cable, with the ground wire firmly connected to an electrical ground (safety ground) at the power outlet. Any interruption of the protective (grounding) conductor or disconnection of the protective earth terminal will cause a potential shock hazard that could result in personal injury. Do not operate the instrument in the presence of flammable gases or fumes. Do Not Remove the Instrument Cover Operating personnel must not remove instrument covers. Component replacement and internal adjustments must be made only by qualified personnel. Instruments that appear damaged or defective should be made inoperative and secured against unintended operation until they can be repaired by qualified service personnel.

2 Determining the Installed Version Firmware version contents are displayed by the Soft Front Panel (SFP) Help About screen of the PXIe Chassis Family driver. However, you can only see the Trigger Bridge firmware version when using PXIe Chassis Driver 1.7.82.1 or later. You cannot observe the Trigger Bridge firmware version using the PXIe Chassis Family driver prior to 1.7.82.1. Please download and install the latest driver from www.keysight.com. Search on your chassis model number. Click on Visit Technical Support and then click on the tab for Drivers, Firmware & Software. After installing version 1.7.82.1 or later, run the SFP for your chassis and click on Help>About. Refer to the next page of this document to identify which firmware version is installed. The figure below shows an example of the Help>About for an M9019A chassis. In this example, the version of the Trigger Bridge version number matches that of the 2018 firmware. If the 2017 firmware were installed, it would show version 0 for the Trigger Bridge. Figure 1. M9019A SFP Help About PXIe Chassis Firmware Guide 9

4 Firmware Version Detail Select the version of firmware based on your need. It is recommended that you always use the latest version of the firmware. Please check the firmware download webpage for the latest version available. Below is the detail showing each firmware capabilities. 2017 Firmware Version Detail If you do not need the enhanced capability of the front panel trigger ports and you are using the 2017 firmware version, then you can use any version of the PXIe Chassis Family driver, including 1.7.82.1. The 1.7.82.1 PXIe Chassis Family driver automatically detects the firmware version installed and performs accordingly. The only difference between the 2017 Firmware version and the 2018 Firmware version is in the behavior of the front panel trigger ports. The following paragraph describes how they work in the 2017 Firmware version. With the 2017 firmware, the front panel trigger port, when configured as an Input, can connect to only a single PXI_TRIG line on Trigger Bus Segment 2 (Segment 1 for the M9010A). The front panel trigger port, when configured as an Output, can only output the trigger signal from a single PXI_TRIG line on Trigger Bus Segment 2 (Segment 1 for the M9010A). In both these situations, only one PXI_TRIG trigger signal line can be used and it must be on Trigger Bus Segment 2 (Segment 1 for the M9010A). If you want to connect a front panel trigger port to a PXI_TRIG trigger signal line on a different Trigger Bus Segment, you must add a route to the chassis configuration. See the PXIe Chassis Family User Guide for more information. 2018 Firmware Version Detail The PXIe Chassis 2018 firmware adds enhanced capability to the front panel trigger ports, but it can only be used with PXIe Chassis Family driver 1.7.82.1 or later. If you want the enhanced capability for the front panel trigger ports, then you must use both the 2018 firmware and the 1.7.82.1 driver or later. PXIe Chassis Firmware Guide 11

The 2018 firmware can only be used with the 1.7.82.1 or later PXIe Chassis Family driver. It will not work with driver version 1.6.493.1 or older versions. If the 2018 Firmware version is installed in your chassis, you must use the 1.7.82.1 or later driver. If you cannot use 1.7.82.1, then you must downgrade your firmware. When the 2018 firmware is installed in your chassis, the PXIe chassis Driver 1.7.82.1 offers the enhanced front panel trigger port capability in both the SFP Trigger Ports tab and in the IVI software API. The front panel trigger port, when configured as an Output, can connect to multiple PXI_TRIG lines on Trigger Bus Segment 2 or 3 (or both). For the M9010A chassis, the front panel trigger ports can connect to Segments 1 or 2 (or both). You have a great deal of flexibility in configuring the destination of the incoming trigger signal. You can configure the incoming trigger signal to go to a single PXI_TRIG line on a single segment or to multiple PXI_TRIG lines on two segments. The front panel trigger port, when configured as an Output, can only output the trigger signal from a single PXI_TRIG line, but you can connect it to either Trigger Bus Segment 2 or 3 (Segments 1 or 2 for the M9010A). Unlike the 2017 firmware, which is limited to a single Trigger Bus Segment, the 2018 firmware can output from either of two Trigger Bus Segments. 12 PXIe Chassis Firmware Guide

5 Upgrading or Downgrading Firmware Process This section describes how to upgrade or downgrade your chassis firmware. PXIe Chassis Family driver version 1.7.82.1 or later is required to perform the firmware change process. Step 1 - Determine the model number of the chassis (i.e. M9010A, M9018B, or M9019A) you want to upgrade or downgrade. Step 2 Determine whether you are upgrading or downgrading. It is recommended that you always use the latest version of the firmware. Step 3 Download the firmware zip file from Keysight.com. Click on the link appropriate for your chassis model number: www Keysight com/find/m9010a www.keysight.com/find/m9018b www Keysight com/find/m9019a Click on Visit Technical Support. Click on the Drivers, Firmware & Software tab. Find the version you want and download it. Step 4 Unzip your firmware zip file. Step 5 Start the SFP. Step 6 Click on Utilities > Firmware Update. Step 7 Click on Yes if the below Alert screen pops up. Step 8 The Firmware Update Utility will start as shown in the screen shot below. Click on Browse then navigate to the location where you unzipped the Firmware zip file. Select the Manifest*.* file and click Open. PXIe Chassis Firmware Guide 13

Step 9 With your browse path filled in, click Next. Step 10 The Firmware Update Utility asks you to verify that you want to update the Current version to the New version. In the example below, we are downgrading from 2018 firmware to 2017 firmware. To start the process, click Update. Step 11 When the Firmware Update Utility finishes, it displays this message. Please follow the instructions to complete the firmware change process. 14 PXIe Chassis Firmware Guide
