VXC Manager Package Creation and Installation Document ID: 117702 Contributed by Cedric Van Labeke, Cisco TAC Engineer. Aug 01, 2014 Contents Introduction Install the Firmware Introduction This document describes how to perform routine Cisco Virtualization Experience Client (VXC) Manager package management tasks with the VXC Manager Administrator Console. It provides information on how to create and register the Cisco VXC Manager packages (software, images, configurations, and so on) that can be distributed to the devices within your Cisco VXC Manager environment. Install the Firmware Complete these steps in order to install and use the latest VXC 6215 firmware: 1. Download the latest software package. Note: Always review the Release Notes for the upgrade requirement. 2. Extract the.zip file onto your computer. Your folder structure will look like this: 6215 9.2.1 datetime template/ (Folder) 6215 9.2.1 datetime template.rsp (File) This is basically your package. Once it is imported in VXC Manager, it will be copied to c:\inetpub\ftproot\rapport\<package name>. 3. Open the.rsp file in Notepad and edit the Description (minimum requirement) and the Category: [Version] ; This RSP should be used for VXC 6215 9.x > 9.x upgrades. ; For VXC 6215 8.x > 9.x upgrades refer to section "Update the ; Cisco VXC 6215 firmware to Release 9.0" in ; the Administration Guide for Cisco Virtualization Experience Client 6215 ; Firmware Release 9.0 ; It is required that you always have a different package name for every ; new package to be deployed. ; We recommend you use the current Date Time in the package name to enforce ; this requirement. ; The package name must match the Number entry in the RSP file Number=6215 9.2.1 datetime template Description=9.2.1 Load for users with VXME OS=SLX Category=Cisco VXC 6215 USE_Pxe=NO [Script] RP "<regroot>" EX "/usr/bin/perl /sbin/dhcp2registry" EX "/usr/sbin/thinclient config set update mode both" EX "/usr/sbin/thinclient config set force image update no" EX "/usr/sbin/thinclient config set preserve changes yes" EX "sync"

EX "(test e /usr/sbin/imageupgrade && imageupgrade; exit 0)" EX "(! test e /usr/sbin/imageupgrade && (sleep 10; /sbin/reboot)&)" 4. Edit the wlx.ini file per your requirements. In the directory 6215 9.2.1 datetime template/, go down to the wlx/ folder and edit the wlx.ini file. Use the latest Cisco Virtualization Experience Client 6000 Series guide in order to build up your wlx.ini files. Here is an example file from the Technical Assistance Center (TAC) laboratory: IniFileSource=cache ; Preserving changes will keep any registry changes or changes in the ; /etc/ directory. Update.Preserve_changes=Yes ; Update both the add ons and the image. Update.Mode=both ; The default mode that the logged in user gets. Privilege=High ; The order the thin client starts up. Bootorder=PHN ; Timezoning Timeserver=10.48.37.151 Timeformat="24 hour format" TimeZone="Europe/Amsterdam" ManualOverride=1 ; Have num lock enabled by default. EnableNumLock=yes ; Disable the screen saver. ScreenSaver=0 ; Disable the thin client going to sleep. Powermanager=0,0 ; Add ons InstallAddons=vxme, xterm lite 238 1.16 1.sletc11sp2.rpm ; Enable VNC DisableVnc=no ; Do not use authentication when establishing a VNC session. VNCAuthTypes=none ; Do not prompt for the user to accept the VNC session. VncPrompt=no ICADenyUsb=class=01 ; XenDesktop CONNECT=BROWSER \ Description="Production Citrix" \ URL=10.48.49.46 \ AutoConnect=no \ Mode=Kiosk \ LocalCopy=no ; VMware View CONNECT=VMWARE_VIEWCLIENT \ Description="Production View" \

5. Host="10.48.37.159" \ DomainName="DCN.Lab" \ AutoConnect=no \ Ping=yes \ Interactive=yes ; Xterm Icon on Desktop CONNECT=CUSTOM \ Description="xterm" \ Command=/usr/bin/xterm Copy the addons referenced in the "InstallAddons=" ini line to the Addons folder. In this example, the folder is 6215 9.2.1 datetime template. In order to install the Cisco VXME add on, include the addons subfolder under the 6215 9.0 datetime template folder, and copy the VXME RPM and directory file to this folder: C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\6215 9.0 platform files\6215 9.2.1 datetime template\addons\vxm C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\6215 9.0 platform files\6215 9.2.1 datetime template\addons\dire Your package is now ready to be imported in VXC Manager. 6. In VXC Manager, right click Package Manager. Choose New > Package. 7. Click the Register a package from a script file (.RSP) radio button.

8. Browse to the location of the package's.rsp file (the folder on your PC you have worked in). Click Next. Leave Active checked, otherwise you will not be able to use it. 9. Click Next and let it register.

The package you built is copied to c:\inetpub\ftproot\rapport\. 10. Click Finish.

Your package is now ready for use. Under Package Manager you will see a couple of folders. The names of the folders are already there or are created with a name in the.rsp file for "CATEGORY=". Choose Cisco VXC 6215. 11. Right click one of your devices and choose Package Distribution Wizard.

12. Choose the package you created, click the Now radio button, and click Next.

Note: Now does not mean 'Now' as you might think. It means that the package is scheduled to be executed now, not that the VXC client will get it Now. Whenever the device checks in, it finds that there is a new scheduled package for it and it executes it. In order to force it, reboot the client in the proper method. ( It needs to go through the shutdown scripts, so do not power off the client and power it back on with the power cord.) A quicker way is to right click the device and choose Refresh Device Information. This should also force the client to do a new check in. Note:Do not touch the client while it reboots to perform the upgrade. This can take a few minutes. When you are presented with a window to log in, please do not log in. When the upgrade has finished successfully, you will automatically log in to the desktop. Never log in manually. 13. Your client is now upgraded to the new firmware and you can view that in the right column in Device Manager. Updated: Aug 01, 2014 Document ID: 117702
