Introduction The IP Softphone is designed to interwork with a Panasonic Hybrid-IP PBX (KX-TDA series), and enables the personal computer to handle calls instead of the proprietary telephone. Conditions In some cases, clear communication may not be possible, due to network conditions and the specifications of the PC and headset. Confirm that trunk and intercom calls can be completed successfully using the IP Softphone's Trial Mode before registering a licence. A registered licence cannot be used at another PC. The feature specifications of the IP Softphone are basically the same as those for the KX- NT136 IP proprietary telephone. For installation and operation instructions, refer to the documentation for the KX-NT136. The feature differences from KX-NT136 are as follows: Programmable melodies and ring tones are not available. Automatic Redial is available only for ISDN lines. To install the IP Softphone on, or to uninstall it from a PC running Windows XP Professional SP2, you should be in the group Administrators. The user in any other groups is not authorised. If audio becomes increasingly delayed the longer you use IP Softphone, there may be a problem with the PC's audio driver. In this case, install another compatible audio driver (not another version of the same driver). If using Windows Firewall, you may not hear a dial tone when clicking the SP-PHONE button. In this case, select the software_ippt check box in the exceptions list for Windows Firewall. The Automatic Pop-up feature does not operate in situations such as the following: When a call is answered automatically When using Live Call Screening in hands-free mode Specifications are subject to change without notice. The design of the final software may differ slightly from the screenshots shown in this manual. 2

Installing the IP Softphone Software Notice: Shut down any other applications before installing the software. 1. Double-click Setup.exe on the CD-ROM. 2. Click Next. 3. Read the Licence Agreement carefully. 3

Installing the IP Softphone Software 4. If you accept the terms of the Licence Agreement, select I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Next. 5. Click Browse to change the installation folder. This step is optional, and can be skipped. 6. Click Install. 7. Click Finish. 4

Uninstalling the IP Softphone Software Uninstall the software from [Control Panel] -> [Add/Remove Programs]. Starting and Registering the IP Softphone Software 1. Start IP Softphone. Notice: Without the Registration Key, the IP Softphone can be used for only 60 days from the date of installation. 2. Click Register Now. Notes: If you click Yes, all features (both basic and optional) of the IP Softphone will be available for 60 days from the date of installation if no licence is registered. If you click No, the software will close. 5

Starting and Registering the IP Softphone Software 3. Enter the Registration Key for 1st Licence, and click Register. 4. Click OK, and then Yes. Notes: The first licence is required for basic features. To use optional features (Recording and Dial Paste feature), a 2nd licence is required. The 2nd licence can be registered at any time after registering the 1st licence, by accessing this screen. If you register only the 1st licence, the optional features will become unavailable even if less than 60 days from the date of installation. 5. Select the network adaptor to use. 6. Enter the IP address of the IP-EXT card installed in the PBX. 7. Click OK. 6

Starting and Registering the IP Softphone Software Note: Before you click OK, confirm that the port of the IP-EXT card in the PBX is in registration mode (i.e., waiting for a response from the IP Softphone). For more details, refer to Information about IP Proprietary Telephones for the KX-TDA series PBXs. 8. Confirm that calls can be made from the IP Softphone by clicking the handset and dialling. 7

Starting and Registering the IP Softphone Software 9. To end the call, click the hookswitch. 8
