Security: The Common Fabric Security design should be wholistic, multi-layered, end-2-end & from the start! AT&T has recorded a 3,198% increase in IoT vulnerability scans over the past three years. (Ref: AT&T Cybersecurity Insights Volume 4, att.com/cybersecurity-insights, 2016) An IoT botnet of 100K infected devices is partly behind massive DDOS attack of 21-Oct-2016 (DVRs and other devices compromised with the Mirai malware are being used in the attack.) 1 8 2016 AT&T Intellectual Property. Path to 5G: U.S. Obama administration announced the Advanced Wireless Research Initiative (Group backed by $400 million in investment). US Ignite is working with the National Science Foundation and other public agencies to convene an advanced wireless industry consortium to advance development of next-generation wireless technologies and services NSF committing $50 million over the next 5 years, as part of a total $85 million investment by NSF and private-sector entities, to design and build four city-scale advanced wireless testing platforms, beginning in FY 2017. NSF is also announcing plans to invest $350 million over the next 7 years in fundamental research on advanced wireless technology projects. More than twenty private-sector companies and associations in the U.S. wireless industry have cumulatively pledged more than $35 million in cash and in-kind support to the design, development, deployment, and ongoing operations of these testing platforms FCC is moving fast to establish US leadership in 5G by opening up new spectrum for Licensed (28,37, 39 GHz), Unlicensed (64-71GHz), and Shared (37-37.6 GHz) use.
