Get to Know Your Phone

Turning on Wi-Fi 1. Tap the Settings icon. 2. Tap Wi-Fi. 3. Slide the button to turn wi-fi on or off. A list of available networks to join appears. Networks with a lock symbol require a password to join. Settings icon

IOS Basics Status bar The Status bar displays current information about your phone. The Home screen is similar to your computer s desktop. To interact with your phone: 1. Tap to open an app. 2. Swipe left or right to see additional Home screens. 3. Double-tap to zoom in or out (photos or internet). 4. Pinch to zoom in or out (photos or internet). Home screen

Your Apple ID What is it? It s comprised of an email address and a password. You also have the option of attaching a credit card to your ID for App Store purchases. Why do you need it? It s the account you use to access Apple services like the App Store, Apple Music, icloud, imessage, FaceTime, and more. What is it used for? Downloading apps Easily transferring your data from an old phone to a new one Recovering information on your current phone

Settings

Apps Apps are programs that run on your phone. The iphone comes with numerous built-in apps. Apps are purchased from the App Store. Some are free, others cost money. Watch for in-app purchases.

Siri & Voice Dictation Home button Siri A virtual assistant Ask questions, set reminders, schedule meetings Helpful but not perfect TO USE: press and hold the phone s Home button. Start with, Hey Siri. Voice Dictation Enter text without using the keyboard TO USE: tap the microphone icon and start speaking. Microphone for voice dictation

Using the Keyboard Features: Predictive text Autocorrect Spellcheck Copy and paste text To modify text: 1. Double-tap a word to access the menu with options to modify the text. 2. Select an option. Another menu may appear with more options.

Contacts Stores frequently used phone numbers Add additional information, such as address, or business name Add a photo to associate with that contact. To add a contact: 1. Tap the Contacts icon. 2. Tap the + in the top right corner. 3. Enter the contact s information. 4. Tap Done.

Using the Phone To make a call: 1. Tap the Phone icon (usually on your first Home screen) 2. Tap Keypad at the bottom of the screen. 3. Enter the number. 4. To hang up, tap the red End button. To answer a call: Swipe Slide to Answer To decline a call: Tap the red Decline button.

Voicemail Setting up voicemail 1. Tap the Phone icon on the Home screen, tap Voicemail, then select Set Up Now. 2. Enter a password then tap Done. 3. Re-enter the password then tap Done. 4. Tap Custom to record a greeting. 5. Tap Record to begin. 6. When finished, tap Stop. 7. To complete, tap Done or Save. Listening to voicemail 1. Tap the Phone icon, then tap Voicemail. 2. Tap the message once to listen to it.

Safari: Using the Internet Tap the Safari icon, then tap in the Address Bar. Use the keyboard to type the website you want to visit. Other features: Navigation: Tap to go back to the previous web page Share: Tap to send the web page in a text message or an email; post to social media; or save in a bookmark. Bookmark: Tap to access your bookmarks. Tabs: Tap to switch between open pages.

Safari Tips & Tricks Turn your phone sideways to change the screen orientation. Pinch the screen to zoom in and out. Tap the Share button and select Add to Home Screen to add an icon for the web page to your phone s Home screen. Close your open internet tabs (and open apps) by double-pressing the phone s physical home button and swiping up on each open window.

The App Store Download apps from the App Store. You can browse lists of popular games and apps, or search for a specific one. Tap Updates to see the apps the need updating, along with a description of what the developer of the app is updating.

Downloading Apps To download an app: 1. Open the App Store. Find an app to download. 2. Tap Get (for free apps), or on the fee for apps that charge. 3. Enter your Apple ID password to confirm. Once it finishes downloading, the icon will be added to your Home screen.

Managing Your Apps To organize your apps, activate the icons by pressing down firmly on the app you want to manage. To delete an app: 1. Tap the X that appears in the corner of the icon. 2. Tap Delete. 3. Press the physical Home button to de-activate the apps. To combine apps in one folder: 1. With the icons activated, drag an app onto another app. 2. Name the folder. 3. Press the physical Home button to de-activate the apps.

Mail When you receive a new email, a badge appears on the app icon. The first time you open the Mail app, you'll need to connect it with an existing email address. 1. Select your email provider. 2. Follow the prompts to connect your account with the Mail app. To add more than one mail account: 1. Tap the Settings icon, then select Mail, then Accounts, then Add Account. 2. Follow the prompts to add another email account.

Using the Mail App

Messages If you receive a new message when you're not in the Messages app, the iphone will notify you in a few different ways: A banner alert at the top of the screen will show you the message, as well as who sent it. A badge on the app icon will show the number of unread messages. Other features: Read receipts tell other people when you've read their messages. Swipe left to view the message or clear the notification from your screen.

Calendar To add an event: 1. Tap the + in the upper-right corner. 2. Enter event information. 3. Tap Alert to set a reminder. 4. Tap Add. To edit an event: 1. Tap the name of the event. This re-opens the event details screen and allows you to make changes. 2. Tap Done.

Camera TIP: Access Camera quickly from the lock screen by swiping left, and the app will open instantly. Pinch to zoom in and out. Rotate the phone sideways to change the camera orientation from Portrait to Landscape. Slide between the options to choose photo, video, panoramic, or square-shaped photo. Press the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button (on the side of the phone) at the same time to take a screenshot. This takes a picture of whatever is currently displayed on your phone's screen. Take a selfie! Tap the Flip Camera button to switch between the front and rear-facing camera.

Photos Photos and videos go straight to the Photos app. Create albums for photo organization. Edit photos. Share photos via text, email, or social media.

Working With Photos To Edit Photos: Tap to balance your photo. Tap to edit the coloring of your photo. Tap to edit the light & color saturation. Tap to manually draw on your photo. To Share Photos: 1. Tap the first icon. 2. Select from your list of options. To Create an Album: 1. Open the Photos app. 2. Tap the + in the top left corner. 3. Enter a name for the album. 4. Add photos to the album. 5. Tap Done.

Checking Phone Storage To see how much storage is being used by various apps (including photos): 1. Tap the Settings app. 2. Select General. 3. Select iphone Storage.
