Setup Instructions for Upgrading the Windows XP Panasonic CF-19 Toughbook to Windows 7 Installation Setup Please ensure that the Windows XP CF-19 Toughbook to be upgraded is plugged in but powered OFF (this upgrade is only to be performed on Windows XP CF-19 Toughbooks) Special Note: If you have saved any SSMIII data in the My Documents folder on the Windows XP CF-19, it will be erased during the upgrade process. If this data is important to you, you must first copy it off to an external device such as a USB Stick or SD Card BEFORE starting the Windows 7 upgrade process. 1. Open the front left compartment on the CF-19 and check that the Wireless Switch is in the ON position 2. Insert the Windows 7 Image USB stick into the left hand USB slot on the CF-19 3. Turn on the CF-19 and keep hitting F2 until you see Entering Setup in the lower left-hand corner of the screen
a. Press the right arrow key until the Advanced menu item is highlighted. Press the down arrow key until the USB Port Setting is highlighted. If the USB Port is not Enabled; then press Enter and choose USB Port Enabled and press Enter again. Note: If you see [USB Key] here as a selection after pressing Enter, please select it. Otherwise use [USB Hard Disk]. b. Click the right arrow key until the Boot Selection is highlighted. Look to see if Boot Option #1 is set to USB Hard Disk (see note). If not, click the down arrow button until Boot Option #1 is highlighted and press Enter on the keyboard. Use the arrow keys to highlight [USB Hard Disk] or [USB Key] and then press Enter to return.
c. Press F10 to Save and Exit and then make sure Yes is highlighted and then press Enter. 4. The PC will now reboot and run a script to install Windows 7. An Applying Progress % message with approximate time remaining will display. After about 15 minutes the screen will say Process Complete. Please Reboot. and the cursor will be flashing to allow you to type in the black command prompt window. When you see the Process Complete. Please Reboot. message on the screen: a. Remove the USB stick from the USB port b. Type exit and then press Enter c. The PC will now reboot and finish configuring Windows (this will take 1-5 minutes). d. The computer will reboot one or two times.
Installation Setup User interaction Click Next You must enter a Computer Name that is specific for your dealership that contains your Dealer Code. Please be sure to use the format of the Computer Name that is explained below. Type SubaruDT in the top field for the user name and press Tab. In the computer name field delete any auto assigned name and enter your computer name following this format: The name should be sdsnnnnnnw where nnnnnn is your numeric Subaru Dealer Code followed by the letter w (use x, y, and z for subsequent CF- 19 upgrades to Windows 7), then press Enter. An example of what the computer name should be if your dealer code is 021414 would be: sds021414w Make sure you do not enter a name that you entered on another laptop already if performing the upgrade on multiple CF-19 s. Click Next when finished.
Type a password in the two boxes. Type anything you want in the hint field. Click Next. Click the two check boxes and then click Next to accept the User license agreements.
Click Ask Me Later Change the time zone setting to match your location and verify the time is accurate. Click Next
The Join a Wireless Network screen appears. Click Skip. Installation Setup Completion The computer will finish any other configuration on its own and then boot up and login automatically. The setup will be finished once you see the Subaru Master Technicians screen show up. If the computer asks you to login and shows two accounts; Administrator and Subaru, click on Subaru and type the password as subaru. The password is case sensitive and must be all lower case. Once the upgrade has completed, please store the Windows 7 USB stick in a safe place should you ever need to perform the upgrade process again.
