Graduate Diploma in Applied Information Technology With specialisations in: Database Administration, Database Development, Network Engineering, Software Engineering, Web Development Wintec code: BI1804 MoE: WK3809 Level: 7 Credits: 120 Owner: Centre for Information Technology Effective Date: January 2019 These regulations should be read in conjunction with the Institute s Academic Regulations. 1. Admission and Entry 1.1. General Academic Admission Candidates are required to have a bachelor s degree or an equivalent qualification approved by the Centre Director or designated nominee. 1.2. Special Admission Domestic applicants aged 20 years or above who have not met the General Admission or entry requirements for a programme but whose skills, education or work experience indicate that they have a reasonable chance of success may be eligible for Special Admission. Special admission will be granted at the discretion of the relevant Centre Director or designated nominee. Such applicants may be required to successfully complete a foundation, bridging or tertiary introductory programme as a condition of entry into higher level programmes. 1.3. English Language Requirements Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 6.0 with no individual band score lower than 5.5; or equivalent; or have completed two years study at a New Zealand secondary school and achieved either NCEA Level 3, or NZ University Entrance, or both. 2. Transfer of Credit 2.1. The standard credit limit for TOC is two thirds (⅔) of the qualification. 2.2. Transfer of credit will not normally be granted at Level 7. 2.3. In exceptional circumstances, these Transfer of Credit clauses may be waived, with the approval of the Academic Board or delegated authority. 3. Programme Requirements 3.1. Every candidate for the shall to the satisfaction of the Academic Board follow a programme of study for a period of normally not less than two semesters. 3.2. Each candidate s programme of study shall comprise modules as per their chosen specialisation, totalling 120 credits, from the Schedule of s in Section 6 of these regulations. 3.3. Candidates completing the Database Administration specialisation, are required to complete all compulsory modules in Group A, and a total of 75 credits from Group B. 3.4. Candidates completing the Database Development specialisation, are required to complete all compulsory modules in Group A, and a total of 75 credits from Group C. 3.5. Candidates completing the Network Engineering specialisation, are required to complete all compulsory modules in Group A, and a total of 75 credits from Group D. 3.6. Candidates completing the Software Engineering specialisation, are required to complete all compulsory modules in Group A, and a total of 75 credits from Group E. 3.7. Candidates completing the Web Development specialisation, are required to complete all compulsory modules in Group A, and a total of 75 credits from Group F. 4. Completion of the Programme 4.1. A full-time candidate will normally complete the Graduate Diploma in Applied Information Technology within two years, unless an extension is granted by special permission of the Centre Director or delegated nominee. 4.2. A part-time candidate will normally complete the Graduate Diploma in Applied Information Technology within four years, unless an extension is granted by special permission of the Centre Director or delegated nominee. 5. Award of the Qualification 5.1. Candidates who successfully complete the requirements in clause 3 will receive the award of the with their respective specialisation. 6. Schedule of s Notes: (i) (ii) Students who have an IT degree that includes passes in papers that cover business analysis, database development, programming and systems analysis are exempt from ITPD711. If a student is exempt from ITPD711 they will be required to replace this with another module from the electives available in their chosen specialisation. If they also have significant work-experience in their area of specialisation they may be able to undertake an appropriate project from Group G (below) in place of a Level 7 module (other than INFO701). Most GDAppIT modules are modules in the BAppIT. The following table shows pre-requisites and co-requisites as they apply in the BAppIT. Where pre-requisites/co-requisites refer to modules outside of the GDAppIT, students who do have an IT degree that includes passes in papers that cover business analysis, database development, programming and systems analysis are deemed to meet the pre-requisite/co-requisite. (iii) The absence of an entry in the pre/co-requisite columns means there are no pre/co-requisites for that module. Pre-requisites and co-requisites may be waived at the discretion of the relevant Head of School/Centre Director or designated nominee.
