4 Logging in to the System (continued) Clicking Manage Courses will access the NGLSync Dashboard (opens a new window). or Click Logout to exit the system. Click Help to display the Technical Support phone number and access a link to submit an issue ticket (opens a new window). 5 Edit the name of the course. To display Course Dates, Course Key, Registration URL, and the list of students enrolled in the course, click More Details. (See 6 below). Click the Launch Course button for the course you wish to access (opens a new window). Click Hide Details to close the Details section. Resources Open the Resources and click on a resource link to view or download it. The number of pages is displayed above the content. Click Download File to download a PDF of the file. 4 5 The list of resources will vary based upon which part of the course you are viewing. 7 8 4 5 6 6 Navigating the Teacher s Edition Click on the topics in the left navigation bar to access lesson plans. Items with triangles navigate to sub topics. Click Back at the top of the navigation bar to return to the previous level in the topic hierarchy. Click the National Geographic Learning logo to return to the Title page of the course. Sub headings below the page title in the content s header link to specific areas within the page that is being displayed. Use the scroll bar on the right side to move up and down within the page. Use the left and right arrows beside the content to navigate between pages. Click on the 4 arrow icon for full screen. Press the Esc key to return to the window view. 9 Content Tools Click the Notes icon to write yourself a note for the displayed page and to access, edit or delete notes you have previously written for that page. 0 Click the Bookmarks icon to create a bookmark for the page you are on, to jump to a bookmarked page or to delete a bookmark. Content Tools (continued) Click the Highlights icon to view the text that is highlighted on the page, change a highlight s color, or remove a highlight. To highlight text:. Use your cursor to select the text you want highlighted.. Click the Highlights icon.. Click 4. Select the color you want to use. 5. Click anywhere outside the box to close the Highlights box. Assignments Assigning Reading and Tests To navigate to the list of reading, quizzes and tests which can be assigned, click on the matrix icon and then select Assignments on the dropdown menu. A list of the course reading, quiz and test assignments will be displayed. 4 Assigning a Single Item To assign one item, find the item in the Assignments list and click on it to go to the item s Preview page. Before making an assignment, you can preview the content or test/quiz on the Preview page. On the assignment s Preview page, click the Assign button. Updated: 4/05/08 9
5 6 Assignments Assigning Reading and Tests (continued) Assigning a Single Item (continued) Enter the Start and Due dates and specify the number of times the students may attempt the test/quiz. Click the Save button. 0 7 8 9 The assignment details will be displayed at the top of the Preview page. To change the Start/Due dates or the number of allowed test/quiz attempts, click the Edit button. To remove the assignment, click the Unassign button. Click Done to return to the Assignments page. Assignments Assigning Reading and Tests (continued) Assigning Multiple Items Select the check boxes for all of the items that you wish to assign to the same Start and Due date. 4 Click the Assign button (near the top of the page). Enter the Start and Due dates. If any of the items are quizzes or tests, choose the number of times students are allowed to attempt them. Click the Save button. Updated: 4/05/08
5 6 7 Assignments Assigning Reading and Tests (continued) Assigning Multiple Items (continued) You will get an Assignments Saved notification at the top of your screen and the Start and Due dates will be displayed next to those items in the list. Use the Edit button to change the dates and number of allowed test/quiz attempts for individual assignments. The Unassign button can be used to remove the dates from individual assignments. Using the Gradebook Accessing the Gradebook Two Options To navigate to the Gradebook from the course content, click on the matrix icon and then select Gradebook on the dropdown menu. To navigate to the Gradebook from Assignments, you can click on the Gradebook tab near the top of the page. Updated: 4/05/08
7 5 6 4 Using the Gradebook (continued) The Gradebook Dashboard List of students registered for the course. Course items that have been assigned. When grading for all students has been completed for an assignment, the class average is displayed. A Pencil button indicates assignments that have been completed and are ready to be graded. Graded assignments display the student s grade in either points or as a percentage. (See #7) A dash indicates assignments that have not yet been submitted. Click Display Settings to open the pop up and choose whether you want to display scores as points or percentages. Updated: 4/05/08 4
Using the Gradebook (continued) Grading Tests and Quizzes Click the Pencil button for the test you want to grade. A pop up window shows the student s attempts and the date and time the test or quiz was taken. Click the Grade button to grade the constructed response items. Score the student s response in the Score box at the bottom of the window and write a comment if desired. Click the blue button at the bottom of the screen to submit the score and move on to the next question or to complete the grading process for this test/quiz. After you have completed grading a test/quiz, the Gradebook reflects the score. 5 4 Updated: 4/05/08 5
Using the Gradebook (continued) Viewing/Editing Grades Once a student s test/quiz has been graded, you can view or edit the score you assigned by clicking on the score. Click the View button to look at the score. Click the Edit button if you want to change the score. If you are in Edit mode, click the Edit button at the top of the screen to make changes to the score or comments for any of the constructed response items. After you have made your changes, click the blue button at the bottom of the screen to submit. 4 Updated: 4/05/08 6
5 Using the Gradebook (continued) Viewing/Editing Grades (continued) To see all of the scores for a specific student, click on the student s name in the Gradebook. The student score summary page displays the due date, the scores, and the number of attempts for each assignment. Items that have not yet been completed are indicated with a dash. 8 7 6 If you wish to view or edit the score, click on the score. (See Viewing/Editing Grades above.) Items that have been completed but not yet scored will display a Pencil button in the Score column. Click the button to score the test/quiz. (See Grading Tests and Quizzes above.) Updated: 4/05/08 7
Student View To view the Student Edition of the course, click the matrix icon and then select Launch Student Edition on the dropdown menu. The Student Edition can also be launched by clicking the Book icon. The Student Edition of the course will open in a new window.
