1 Introduction 1 Introduction This document describes the third technology preview of the lightweight version 6.0 of the Intel Setup and Configuration Service (Intel SCS). For information about this version, see Version Description on page 1. For information about what has changed since the second technology preview, see New Features and Changes on page 2. For information about the known issues, see Known Issues on page 3. Table 1. Version Details Category Value Version SCS 6.0 Lightweight (Technology Preview #3) Release Date August 30, 2009 Supported AMT Systems Intel AMT 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x 1.1 Version Description The Intel SCS enables you to automatically configure Intel Active Management Technology (Intel AMT) systems (version 2.0 and later). This lightweight version enables small and medium businesses customers to quickly setup and use the Intel SCS in a simple network infrastructure. This means that the following are not supported in this version: Integration with Active Directory The application of Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Certificate Authority (CA) in configuration profiles SQL Databases (uses XML instead) Access Control Lists in profiles Note: If you require any of these options, you can download and install the full Intel SCS version instead. This Intel SCS lightweight version includes the following: AMT Configuration Server Service The Intel SCS Windows service that processes the configuration/un-configuration requests sent from the Activator utility or the SCS Console. 2 New Features and Changes SCS Database The lightweight version of the Intel SCS stores data in the following xml files in the same folder as the Intel SCS Windows service: profile.xml Profile data vprostorage.xml PSK pairs Note: Use the SCS Console to edit and update the information in the database. Do not manually edit the XML files. Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) The Application Programming Interface (API) used by applications to interact with the Intel SCS. SCS Console An application that uses the WMI API to communicate with the Intel SCS. The SCS Console requires no installation, you can run it from any computer in the network that has access to the Server running the Intel SCS. The SCS Console includes context sensitive help that opens to the relevant section when you click? in the title bars of the SCS Console wizards Intel vpro Technology Activator Utility You run this application on the Intel AMT systems to quickly initiate and send configuration and un-configuration requests to the Intel SCS. For more information, see the Intel vpro TM Technology Activator Utility Release Notes and User Guide. 2 New Features and Changes This third technology preview of the Intel SCS 6.0 Lightweight version includes the following new features and changes: Installation is now performed using an InstallShield wizard. 3 Known Issues 3 Known Issues The following table describes known issues with the lightweight version 6.0 of the Intel SCS. Table 2. Known Issues Component Internal Tracking Number Description Impact / Solution Installation 2837726 The Intel SCS installation generates three WinMgmnt warnings (event ID 5603) in the Windows event viewer. For more information, refer to http://www.intel.com/support/ network/sb/cs-028928.htm 2838386 The installation wizard does not grant the service user the required permissions. 2838416 After an SCS component is successfully installed on a computer, you can not run the installation wizard again to install an additional component on that computer. Service 2837365 After starting the Intel SCS, the first WMI call always fails with an exception. Ignore the warnings. The Intel SCS uses the LocalSystem account and properly impersonates user requests. Grant the user that will run the Intel SCS the required permissions, as described in the Installation and User Guide. Run the installation wizard to uninstall the component and then run the installation wizard again and select all the components you want to install on the computer. Ignore the first WMI call. 2837848 2837960 You can not create or delete new WMI class instances via WS-Man. Use WMI to communicate with the Intel SCS. Console 2837984 The Console does not indicate which PSK configuration keys are already in use. The same PSK configuration key might be used on more than one Intel AMT system.
